Can Anyone Recommend a Good Wine

I've been invited to go with my neighbors to their son for Thanksgiving. They don't want me to bring anything, but I would at least like to bring a bottle of wine.

I'm not much of a drinker and don't know the first thing about wines. So can someone please recommend a good wine to bring or something else appropriate.

Thank you.

There are many good, inexpensive bottles of wine out there. I would bring a Chardonnay (white) or Shiraz (red). Robert Mondavi is my favorite but Sutter Home or Little Penguin are good brands too. Sometimes the liquor stores up here have a 'gift box' type thing, that includes an opener, some charms or glasses too.

Otherwise, I would bring a family game or movie as a gift. There are lots of new ones out this time of year.

Since they may already have the wine they want to serve with dinner picked out, you could bring a nice dessert wine....moscato by Barefoot could be had for $9.99. Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry would cost more than that if you want to pay more, but is a well regarded brand. An imported Italian Asti is a nice wine for after dinner also.

You also could bring a box of nice chocolates...perhaps from a local candy store rather than a national brand found everywhere.

How about a nice poinsettia if you are leery about buying wine. I drink wine and I know I'm seldom comfortable picking it out for others. There are thousands to choose from and it's just very confusing.

Do you know for sure that they even drink...we've been gifted wine a couple of times and it's awkward since neither of us drink. Maybe something non-alcoholic would be more appropriate if you don't know if they drink or even like wine?

Unfortunately, I don't know these people at all. That's one of my big problems. I am new to the area. My lovely neighbors invited me to go with them to their son's for Thanksgiving.

I mentioned to my neighbor that I would like to bring a bottle of wine and there was no objection.

There will be about 20 - 25 people, so I would think there would be at least a couple of imbibers.

I think it is a very nice gesture. Kendall Jackson is another nice wine that won't set you back too much. I would probably choose either a Cabernet Sauvignon (red) or a Chardonnay (white). I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving!
