| Some News Leaves People Knowing Less
Fox News leaves viewers less informed than those who watch no news: Some News Leaves People Knowing Less

I respectfully disagree with you. I believe what you see is a "snapshot" of information being provided to you. We all of course realize that if over history you looked back at every single photo ever taken of you, you of course would not look flattering in each one. However, if you knew you had a portrait sitting coming up, surely you could buy a new blouse, have your hair done and pick out appropriate clothing for your family members to look stunning in the picture. Let's say the person called was a SAHM with three kids under 4 years of age. Wow, what do you think she does all day? Do you think she takes an hour of her evening to listen to NPR so she's caught up on what's happening over in Syria? Or no wait, She and her husband bounce the kids out of bed every Sunday and get them to church feeding them breakfast and cleaning up instead of sitting down to spend the next 2 1/2 hours perusing through the USA Today or New York Times they subscribe to. Did SHE answer the questions right???? Really???? This whole survey could be loused up by her answer, "yes, I subscribe to the newspaper" Mam' is that where you get your information from? "sure, when I can." Do you ever watch Fox news? "Yeah, I guess after I put the kids to bed, it's on in the background in the den." Then you're qualified to answer these survey questions... can you give a minute of time please??? ![]() Really? REALLY? NOT! If you're satisfied with Polls like this one, then I'm sure you're voting Republican too this next election because there's a poll somewhere that says our current Democratic President isn't doing the stellar job he promised all of us he would do. No, of course not. THAT would pretty much say it all. X ps.. For the sake of conversation, did you two women know the answer to the questions asked or would you have gone 0 for 2 there as well as some that answered the survey?

That's why they poll a large number of people - to average out the situation you describe. People who watch all different sources of news are just as likely to be in the position you describe, if you poll enough people. The whole survey would not be loused up by one answer. As for your question. Yes - I know the Egyptians were successful in overthrowing Mubarak. No - I wasn't sure of the status of Syria. Yes - I know Occupy Wall Street protesters are mostly Democratic. Yes - I know who the leading Republican candidates are. (Now Gingrich and Romney. Apparently, this poll was taken before Cain cooked his goose.)

I also was able to answer the questions correctly, three out of the four or so. I do not watch much Fox News and I am a housewife. I have been a housewife for years and even w/ kids I still was able to keep informed.

It is my opinion that a person should listen to and read as much "news" as possible from every possible source so that one can be informed by as many diverse opinions as possible. The truth is always somewhere in the middle of everyone's opinion. It's not doing yourself a favor to always look at thing from one narrow point of view. And for those who consider themselves on one extreme side of politics or lifestyle, isn't is good to know what the "enemy" or the "others" are doing and thinking? I've always prided myself on knowing what was going on in my community and around the world. My Mom always told us when we were kids "the more you learn, the more you know. The more you know, the farther you'll go, the farther you'll go, the happier you'll be". This applies to all areas of life. Also, as a footnote I work in research and I know for a fact that EVERY possible thing is taken into consideration. If people lie, if they are "wrong" whatever. My statistics class in college was literally the most boring thing I've ever had to endure and I don't remember the specific details but it's all taken into account.

612 people? -- not exactly a huge pool of respondents. And I would bet that if you asked 612 different people, the results could be very different. I think this poll was an absolute waste of time and money. |

Well I guess it reinforces what I already knew. |

How is it a targeted audience?
