I'm officially unemployed

I'm offically unemployed as of this afternoon I was on a leave because of my personal situation, however it was an unpaid leave. I received a letter today that because I have been on an unpaid leave for more than seven days, and reside out of state, in order for me to keep my posistion once I return to work, I would have to move back into the state of NJ within a year or be terminated. Since I couldn't afford living in NJ before (that is why I moved to Pa) I had no choice but to resign. I tried so hard to fix the situation but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was at my job for 11 years, so starting over somewhere new is going to be hard. Does anyone have any suggestions besides babysitting of side jobs that I can look into until I can get a car?

Have you already officially resigned? If not, why don't you stay in your current job for the year, so at least you can still be employed while you look?

Oops sorry. Just noticed the title says "officially." You could offer to do odd jobs for neighbors, but without a car finding odd jobs might be hard. What are your skills?

Sorry about your job. When I was between jobs several years ago, I worked for Alpine Access, worked from my computer at home and took customer phone calls, looked up their accounts, etc. Doesn't pay a lot but on a snowy day it was great to roll out of bed in my pj's and walk over to the computer and 'punch in' at work! I have heard of other companies that do this, but don't know a lot of details on them other than Alpine.

Also if you have belongings that you can sell, put them on eBay or craigslist or whatever works, sell stuff just to get some cash coming in til you can find something. Good luck to you.

This is not a good time to leave that job that has supported you all these years behind. I think the best scenario for you is to resolve your car situation one way or the other and get back to your job in New Jersey. You will have a year to work on the residency issue Especially with your SO not working either. Just my opinion, and I wish you well in this lousy situation.

Make sure you apply for unemployment immediately. I don't know the details of your situation, but it's the state, not the employer that determines if you are eligible for unemployment. Typically, unless you are fired for gross misconduct (stealing, fighting, etc) you will get some unemployment.

I feel your pain. If I had any advice, I'd be employed myself!
Just remember that there are a lot of us unemployed, and the world isn't out to get you (yes, I struggle with feeling overwhelmed at times...)

What will happen is that you will find a better job and it will be because you're now available.

Customer Service Jobs

I can't remember where I came across this link and I can't vouch for any of the companies, but it might be worthwhile to check in to...

I hope you find something soon!

I hope you may find something good, I know you mentioned you do not want to do babysitting, however there is a site called sittercity.com. It is not only for to be a babysitter, it is also for animal sitters, tutoring, elderly care, perhaps there may be something that might be helpful until something else comes along.

In the meantime, how about any temp jobs, to perhaps hold you over until something permanent come's your way. This must be very hard to deal with, especially with the holiday's in full swing. I hope you may find employment soon. I wish you luck.
