Maybe sad in a way but will America really be worse off if a bunch of processed sugary crap is removed from the shelves?

We might not need more sugary "crap" but it still is a company that has been around for a very long time, like 80-90 years, and it's just heart wrenching to see what you think are stable companies go through this.

Sorry that folks may lose their jobs, but otherwise, I don't find the loss of a business heart-wrenching. I agree with annadrose. They just produce a lot of stuff you're better off not eating anyway. Even their bread is trashy.

Oh no! Everyone go buy a twinkie!

And yes, they are sugary snacks and not the best for you. But when these things were created, people didn't stuff themselves stupid. People actually had to do physical work and got some exercise. Having a twinkie or a cupcake didn't hurt anything, any more than having a piece of home made pie or a cookie. "Everything in moderation" is not a well-known phrase anymore.

Exactly! I was just saying today how sad it is t hat aver half of my Kindergarten children are overweight, some very much so. When I was a kid, you rarely saw an overweight 5 year old. They eat crap all day and hardly play outside.

We ate hostess snacks from time to time when I was a kid, but not a box per day!

I know! When springtime hit - and especially every day in summer - I could not GET out of the house fast enough. I had friends to see, bikes to ride, swimming to do, hide and seek to play, annoy my poor sweet very patient Grampa poking around in his garage, etc. - LOL!!

Who had time to get obese?

There are plenty of other snacks on the shelves. If they want to keep solvent they should try something innovative like making products that are healthier and more in line with what people are looking for today. I'm sorry for people losing their jobs but this is what happens. I don't eat that stuff. If I want something sweet I make something out of flour, organic butter and sugar and real wholesome ingredients. Now I don't expect everyone to be like me but obviously people no longer want their products or they wouldn't be in trouble.
