Question what are you reading now?

I'm getting into slow time at work, so that usually means I can get into bed at night and actually read without falling asleep from exhaustion after one page.

so, anything good anyone is reading? (not into Stephen King - type books)

thanks

Vince Flynn's espionage series. Really good. There are already several out, and a new one. I'm on Separation of Power.

Lovers & Players by Jackie Collins. Nothing like a good trashy novel!

It's terrible, but I can't remember the name of the book I started reading before my daughter was born. She's almost 4 months old now and I just haven't had a chance to get back to it yet.

TC Boyles' Drop City

This author wrote another book that takes place in the future about a old rock star and the people that work for him.

Has anyone read anything by this author? I just love him/her!

Just got done reading Baby I'm Yours. That was good too. Every few months I tend to go on a book shopping spree on overstock, buying 8-10 at a time! I cannot WAIT until I get my pre-ordered copy of the new Shopaholic book, Shopaholic & Baby!

Okay, I checked and I was reading Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner. I'm not usually into the chick lit books, but I am hooked on Jennifer Weiner.

Just finished Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. Not your normal Grisham. Quite light and funny.

I just started "the Cobra Event" by Richard Preston.
Never read this author before.
I'm only on page 54 so I have no opinion yet.

I, too, want to read the James Patterson Alex Cross series in the proper order ~sigh~
I've read the first few and then discovered it was a series!
I need "Roses are Red" next, which is smack in the middle of the series so I've stopped reading them till I find it.
I'm gathering them but so far that one is elusive. To complete the series, other than Roses are Red, I also need "Big Bad Wolf", "Mary Mary" and of course "Cross"
I'm trying to build up and own the series via buying them at the Goodwill and Library Book sales for very little cost.
(I'm cheap ).
YES, I know I can go check them out at a library or I could buy them at a normal price from a store.
But I'm finding the hunt for them at dirt cheap is kind of fun.
Feels like a Treasure Hunt.

Amazon has some sort of deal you buy so many books and get one free and free shipping over $25.. .
makes it so tempting..
but I'm holding out and have just been searching the Goodwill and Library book sales so far.

Have you tried joining paperbackswap.com or frugalreader.com? You can swap your books for others and all it costs is the media mail postage when someone requests a book you have listed. For every one you list and mail, you get a credit to order one. You also get a credit the first time when you list I think it is 10 books. I have really enjoyed it.

No I haven't tried online.
I know Amazon has resellers willing to sell for even a penny but the postage is $3.49
Well, like I said I'm cheap.
Way too cheap to pay postage!

The Goodwill charges $1 for a paperback and $2 for a hardcover.
10% off everyday cuz I'm a Sr Citizen and once a month 50% off.

A library in the next city over has a Friends of the Library Booksale room open twice a week.
Prices are based on copywrite dates.
2006 =$4.50 and then it goes down each year.. before year 2000 is just 50¢ for a hardback.
all paperbacks are 50¢
They sell donated books so you never know what you'll find.

Library nearest me has a Paperback exchange.. It's free.
You take some in and leave them..take some out and keep them.

Like I said it's sort of a hunt I've enjoyed.

I'm just starting
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
I bought it for my DD and she loved it and told me I should read it. I try to read a little of it everyday(like when I'm sitting in the pick up line at school). So far, it's pretty good.

Right now, I am reading "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. I finally broke down and bought it Monday. I've been wanting to read it for quite a long time, but never seemed to remember to get it or find the time for it.

Is that book any good? My 15 yr old DD has it on her Christmas list and I want to make sure she'll like it. She's a huge book worm so I'm trying to get as many books as I can from her WL.
TIA

I think she'll enjoy it. It's a really good read. I had heard all kinds of good reviews about the book before I bought it. I am about half way through it and have been really enjoying it. The only thing that was kind of holding me back from buying it is to me it's kind of expensive. I think I spent a little over $14 for it at Target.
