They get "mom gifts" on Christmas eve which always consist of new Pj's, slippers and a robe. Then on Christmas morning they get their "Santa" gifts. -Santa has a limit of 400 dollars per child. Each July-they each get a money envelope with their name on it. I spend from their envelopes till the money is gone. This way, they know that I've spent the same amount on them. Best system ever. And the cash limit depends on the financial situation at the time as well. There were some years I only spent 100 on each. |

We have always done 3 gifts. 1 from Mom,1 from Dad and 1 from "Santa". We also do stockings. I don't worry too much about the equality of money spent, just try to pick a biggish gift from Santa and smaller ones from mom and dad.

We have 2 girls, and usually we get them one big gift and one small gift each, plus their stockings. On Christmas Eve, Santa brings them each 2 gifts, to open at their Aunt's house (dh's family). Between my parents, my sister and my boss' wife (whom my girls call Aunt), they get enough goodies.

Well normally I try to get them 10 things each, but this year I think my relatives have gone overboard so I think I might downsize and since we are taking a trip that right there will be a big part of thier present! I want to get at least one big something they want and then the rest probably won't be that extravagant. |

Wow from reading some of the above posts I have realized that I go WAY overboard but then again I only have the one DD. She tends to get between 10-15 gifts from us and about 15 from Santa plus her stocking. I think it's time for me to downsize LOL. I always thought I didn't get her enough because from working in retail and seeing what all parents buy for their children I always thought I was cheating her.

I have two kids and it all depends on what they want. *santa* spends roughly $100 each kid and then we (mom and dad) spend roughtly $100 as well (including stockings). Each kid is given $15 to spend on the other sibling as well. Usually, that means about 4-5 gifts to open and then stockings. That said, we don't give clothes for xmas. We get those as the kids need them

We don't have a set amount of money or number of presents we buy for the kids or for each other. It depends on what we have on the list for each of the kids for that year. We try to keep it fair but the kids are 11, 8, 7 and 6 so they don't really notice a difference in prices of gifts. If they get something they really wanted that costs $20 and another one gets one they really want that costs $100, they don't notice that price difference. I have the same problem every year and am experiencing it again this year already. We make a list of things we want to get the kids and then go shopping and find a million more things that they can't live without. For financial reasons, we need to stick to the list but it's always a problem for us. |

I have given up trying to spend the same amount on each child. My boys want video games, and they run about $50-$60ea, and my girl wants Barbies/Bratz etc. So, this year I have decided to make sure they all have the same amount, and not worry how much each gift is. I would like to spend about $1000 total when everything is said and done. That would be for a total of 5 people. Does that sound reasonable? LOL!

wow, just to let you know,i am originally from France, and the Christmas is quite different .only Santa brings gifts on Christmas day. mu Dh is American, but gladly followed my traditions....his family doesn have any sense of traditions I could dn;t understand how my friends were able to leave presents under the tree for several weeks before Christmas. I do not know how much I really spend ,because I shop year around (thank god for Target) |

My children really don't get a lot of "extras" throughout the year. Toys and such are pretty much given at Christmas and Birthdays, only. So, that being said, we tend to go a little overboard when it comes to Santa. I shop throughout the year and put things in the attic to save for Christmas. I'm in big trouble if they ever discover my spot! I can't really say how much I spend, but I would guess that 80% of it is bought at a good discount so there is a lot of bang for my buck, so to speak. Our kids understand the real meaning of Christmas, so the years when things have been a bit leaner, they were OK about it.
