Kelly Ripa/Clay Aiken/Rosie O'Donnell thing....

If you watch Regis & Kelly and/or the View, then you know what i'm talking about.

First off, let me say that I have always been a Clay Aiken Fan & not a big fan of Kelly Ripa. However, I felt incredibly uncomfortable the other day watching him make fun of her over and over on the show. I felt he was rude and out of line a number of times. I did not really even notice him putting his hand over her mouth to 'shut her up' during the interview with Emmitt because he had done so many things that felt to me to be out of line by that point. So by the end of the show that he was guest-hosting on, I was very shocked and disappointed by his behavior.
So then the next day, she talks about it to Regis. I agree with what she said but I was bothered by the way she said it. Does that make sense? I think her response was not well thought-out and don't think she came off very well after it.
Okay, so as soon as she gets done saying it, I said to DH (who is home sick) that Rosie will jump on this one on The View. Am I psychic or what???
But I never expected Rosie to take it as she did. I don't feel like anything that Kelly said was related to his sexual-orientation (whatever that may be). There are many people who just don't want to be touched on their face and especially on the mouth by someone who has been shaking hands with the public all morning. She said the next day to Regis that Clay's hand was cold and clammy and that sounds pretty stinkin gross to me and I woudln't want that covering my mouth as tightly as he did to hers. I believe Kelly did a wonderful job of defending her statements and her actions today when she called in to The View and I truly do not feel as though any thing she did or said had anything to do with his sexual orientation. He was out of line from the moment the show started and be it nervousness or trying to tease her like Regis does, it got out of hand very quickly.
I am a fan of Rosie's--however, I just don't seem this from her point of view. I don't see anything even remotely homophobic in Kelly's behavior/statements. Besides the fact that this is a person who has never said whether he's gay or not.

What a mess all of this has created. I just hope that Rosie will let it go. I bet she doesn't. The way she kept bringing it up later makes me think she's going to stir this one up for a while.

Did any of you watch any/all of this? What are your thoughts.....?

Kelly called into the View yesterday morning and straightened it out.. Kelly never mentioned anything about being gay.. I think Rosie is looking for something to get upset about.. I don't care for Clay but yes I do think it was rude of him to cover her mouth. I think a big deal was made out of nothing.. Like Kelly said.. she said her piece and she holds no hard feelings toward Clay, but Rosie should of been more responsible in reporting dthat it all happend because Clay COULD BE gay.

I am not a Clay fan, but I think Rosie is making an issue out of nothing - I heard when Kelly called in to the View and I can understand why she said that to Clay- I wouldn't want anyone putting their hand over my mouth either - especially with all the 'bugs' going around.

If it had been anyone straight, Rosie would NOT have said a word about it.

I am a huge germaphobe and I would flip out if anyone, gay or not, tried to put their hand over my mouth whether it's cold/flu season or not. How do you know if he washed his hands after using the restroom, or what else he may have touched since he last washed (I even get onto DH all the time asking him if he washed his hands before or after he does something). I don't see what the big deal is about Kelly Ripa getting upset about this. I don't think it has anyting to do with his sexuality, afterall, Clay Aiken has not specified if he is gay or straight (although most people have their own opinions). It just has to do with bad manners and being extremely rude. As for Rosie O'Donnell, I can't stand her and she's the reason I don't watch The View anymore - at least on the days that I'm home.

I don't like Kelly Rippa. I think she is a yapping host, but where does Rosie get off by saying that she made a negative statement against gays??
I am sure the Clay is just loving all of this since his sexuality is something that he does not want to have discussed. Now you have Rosie basically saying that He is gay. I love Clay and I am taking his side. The one thing that Kelly said that does not make since is that Clay was shaking hands with everyone. Clay is a germ freak and does not even like to touch people, so that did not sound true.
I just wished that Kelly and Rosie would shut up and this would have never gone anywhere.

I did not see the R&K show, but I did see the clip when it was discussed on The View. Although I would have to disagree with Rosie that Kelly made a homophobic remark, I do agree with the point she made about Clay just trying to be funny. Clay always seems to me to be a bit uneasy during interviews, etc. , and I think he was probably just trying too hard to be funny and quirky like Regis is with Kelly. I don't think he was really trying to be disrespectful to her. I also agree with Rosie that if it would have been a hunk like Mario that Kelly probably wouldn't have reacted quite the same way. I can also see Kelly's point of view about having kids and not wanting germs on her mouth.

I agree with Kelly on this one. I would have been extremely upset had he done the same thing to me! She had every right to be upset. I think she handled the situation very well on TV. Plus, Clay was the 'guest' host, not the host as Kelly was so she was the main one who was supposed to be asking the questions. Can you imagine what Howie Mandell would have done had Clay done that to HIM! He is a total germaphobic!

As for Rosie, she's always talking about people being homophobic -- well, I think she just used this as her platform of the day. I'm so glad Kelly called in and set her straight. I think Kelly handled the situation with Rosie very well and put Rosie in her place. Of course, Rosie is going to bring up the gay issue, as she does on everything.

I don't watch The View anymore; however, I was flipping thru the channels because I remember that the day before Rosie wasn't on there and I was hoping she wasn't on there that day and happened to turn it just as the incident was being brought up.

BTW, for anyone who missed it, you can watch it on YouTube.

Clay should keep his clammy hands off people and Rosie should keep her mouth shut!!

I agree with the others. I do not in any way feel it was an antigay remark. I have used that phrase.." YOu don't know where that hand has been" even as a child. Men especially because they actually touch their privates when they use the bathroom. yuck. Rosie is a blow hard.
