What's the best video game system for a 9,8 & 4 year old

I have 9 & 8 year old DDs and a 4 year old DS. They currently play with our really old original nintendo system and we are thinking about getting them a new system for Christmas. Our system works fine, but it's really hard to find any new games and they are getting a little tired of Mario and Tetris.

We are definately not going to get one of the newest ones and are hoping that we can get one for around $150 or so. I think I remember reading that the Game Cube was good for these ages, but I don't even know if those are new enough that you can easily get them now.

So anyway, I was just wondering what others might think would be good for these ages.

Thanks!
Becky

My 5 & 7 year olds have Gameboy Advanced systems and really like them. I refuse to buy any gaming system that hooks up to the TV though. It's just something I'm funny about. I might never see my husband again if we had one (not as worried about the kids LOL)

Good luck with your choice! I know I have a Sony PSP and the game selection is not as good as I thought it would be. I guess it's not as popular as they thought it would be (although I really have fun with it)

My 12-year-old has a computer, PS2, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64. He continues to favor the N64 over the others. He has had his N64 for 7 years and still loves playing it. His favorite game on it is Zelda.

I would say get the Playstation 2. My 7 year old has a Nintendo 64 and last year we got him the Playstation and loves it. He has friends that have gotten the Nintendo Gamecube but have gotten bored with it and now want the Playstation 2.

I have 9 year old twins and a 4 year old and they have a Gamecube and Gameboy Advance SPs. You can get a Gamecube for about 99.00 now and there are lots of games available, new and used for kids that age. Even my 4 year old can play the games but he is a computer savvy baby

My 7 and 9 yr olds have the gamecube and they LOVE it. In fact we have 2 because they were always fighting over the one we had. They love the Mario games and Animal Crossing is a big hit here. We also have the PS2 and Xbox 360 but they don't care for those as much because they like the Mario game. I would recommend the gamecube for sure!!

Gamecube! There are a lot of games out - for all different ages. This system is very easy to use too! The controllers are comfortable, and easy for all ages to hold and control. HTH!
