Black Friday Chaos

I stayed home with my DD, but my DH hit the stores early this morning. He went to Circuit City first. Some business started handing out free t-shirts when the doors opened and the line started moving. Well, this caused gaps in the line when people slowed down to get a t-shirt. There were 2 or 3 loops in the line in the parking lot, and people toward the back end of the line tried to cut across to the open gap in the line. People started yelling and it became chaotic. Luckily there were 2 police officers who headed off the line cutters and restored order pretty quickly.

A few years ago my DH saw people throwing VCRs over peoples' heads at Wal-Mart. Husbands were up front fighting for the VCRs and throwing them to their wives at the back. This was at the same Wal-Mart where an off-duty police officer maced some unruly customers in the electronics department a few years later on BF.

What kind of BF craziness have you witnessed?

NONE all the stores I went to were very civilized. Of course I did not go to Walmart or Circuit City and I hit Best Buy at about 8am.

DH went to circuit city this morning for the Gameboy deal. He arrived about 5 minutes before 5:00 and the line was quite long. He said he got in line, it started moving at 5:00 and he finally got into the store about 5:10. He ask a lady where the GBA was and she said she didn't have anymore and he should check the music area. He did and was told the same thing. He roamed the store more, ended up in the first place he started and they had put a few more out and he managed to get 2 pink ones!!! YAY for him.
My friend and I went out about 8:00 but we hit the "low key" places like Walgreens, Eckerd, Dollar General. I did go to Walmart after she went home and while it was busy it wasn't crazy. The toy and electronics areas were VERY busy.
All in all, I missed the chaos and still managed to get a few more gifts marked off the list.

I went to Staples at 6:30am (meant to get there earlier, but couldn't find my wallet -- took about 10 minutes to find it, so I got a late start). It was very orderly and not crazy at all, eventhough they were out of a lot of the 'door buster' stuff. I went to Target after that and it was busy, but not overly crowded or crazy.
DS & I went to Kohl's & Super Target around 2pm in the afternoon. Kohl's was busy, but not crazy -- the line to check-out was probably 10 or 12 people long. Super Target was a zoo, but probably not any more so than a regular Saturday (I usually only shop in the morning during the week, so I'm not used to shopping with crowds).

All in all, not a bad shopping day here.

We didn't go shopping, BUT, we made the mistake of going to Disneyland. What a chaotic nightmare that was!! What were we thinking? That place was wall to wall people! Oh well, live and learn! We still had a great time! :O)

I went to Macy's, what a zoo, I cut the $10 off coupon out of the newspaper and they would not honor it because it didn't have a barcode. I was mad and left! Went to Bloomingdales which had if you spend $100 they give you a $15 giftcard. You could use your card on anything, even make-up! I had a $25 off $100 coupon, bought my dh 2 dress shirt and got to use my coupon and got a giftcard! Nice deal.

I scored nice at MACYS.My mom gave me a$10 off $25 coupon from the Sunday paper and I used it to buy two pairs of Nautica flannel pj pants for my son. They were regularly $30 ,on sale for $15 - the $10 coupon made them $10 each.I got lucky ,heehee, my cashier was some REALLY old man, looked about 75 with glasses and couldn't read the coupon. (The coupon wasn't good on Nautica brand)

Bf and I both got $10 giftcards at Pepboys with no line and we each got a $10 gift card at Sears in a loooong line.

DD's and I went to Toys R Us, what a mess, the line was all the way around the store. Literally, as you came into the store an walked 15 feet you were in the checkout line, which snaked all the way around the outside perimeter of the store, we left.
All the other stores we got lucky and they either just opened up a check out or like in Sears, the had 30 people in line at the back of the store but up at the mall entrance side they had 4 cashiers waiting for customers. Nice, we did miss out on the $10.00 gift card, but folks had lined up at 0400. It was about 32 degrees so folks lined up a little earlier this year.
Went to Linens and things and did get a bar of the Ghiradelli chocolate with the chance to win $10,000.
Eventually ended up at Sam's for the free continental breakfast, what a treat.

My day was great. I ran into a girl I used to work with at a pizza place with 20 years ago in a town 3 hours away! She was near me in line, so we got to catch up alot. I wish all the lines I was in were like that!
My MIL didn't get up with me this year, but she went to Target about 4:30pm and said she saw a little girl in her PJ's. She figured she had probably been out all day with her Mom. My husbands hunts, so he is on the field on Black Friday every year, but my inlaws always come to our house for Thanksgiving , because it is they only way to see their son (the hunting thing again) and my FIL watches the kids. I am very blessed for that, because I wouldn't go otherwise. Too crazy for most kids. Saw another lady I know who brought her 9 or 10 year old girl to hold her place in line while she shopped. I still have a hard time with my 12 year old boy wanting to play the games at Target while I shop. I know I can be a little overprotective, but it only takes a second for something to happen and it's just not worth it.

People have gotten so greedy over this Black Friday, it is ridiculous! Here in our city, there were 2,000 people (yes, 2,000 people) lined up to get in at Best Buy. When the doors opened, people cut into the line from across the parking lot, some people fell and the TV cameras showed a man literally beating a man with his fist as he went into the door AND a police officer was standing there and did absolutely nothing.

Everyone is out for the Almighty Dollar. I think Black Friday should be banned. These so-called bargains are not worth losing your life over or getting hurt.

I went to Toys R Us and everything went really smooth, people were nice and saying excuse me and could I get through here? and thank you. I really enjoyed myself, so much more then any time I have ever been to Walmart, even when it isn't Christmas time there people are terrible.

I was really pleased with everyone.

Dream on mom2twins2. They're talking about opening stores even earlier next year - like around midnight. It's sad how getting the "best deal" can literally turn some people into animals.

All was well in Duluth GA. I was in a SHORT line at Office Max. They opened at 4:50am and I was in and out with my memory card. YAHOO(So I thought until I got home and my husband told me I got the wrong size!) Since TRU is across the street I went by and the crowd had been let inside so I ran in and got the $4 Grinch movie. Once again I was in and out of my second store within 3 minutes. Then I went to Target and thought why am I going to stand in line for 45 minutes so I went to JCP to get my free snowglobe. Then I noticed Aeropostale was opened and had a 50% sale. Then I went to the crowded Parisian but it was not bad. Then Target was open and the line was only 3 people. Then off to BBW and Macys. By the time I left the mall the only mob scene store was BBW!!! I hada GREAT time and look forward to it next year. People really did have the Christmas spirit. ALSO, I am all for stores opening at midnight and pulling a true all nighter shopping experience.
