What are you getting your Mother this year?

This is a problem for me every year. What to get my mother. My sister called me with this question today. I was thinking of sending her food. She has some very odd health problems, which the doctor can't seem to find out what is wrong with her, and she doesn't drive because of them. So I was thinking of having a few days worth of cooked food shipped to her. She is in NY and I am in FL.

Has anyone ever done this?

I think sending food is a great idea. Maybe send her a book or a movie to watch since she doesnt get out much. I bought my mother a plush blanket for her bed, a yankee candle, her favorite salon shampoo and socks. She always made Christmas a big deal for me even when she was on a limited income as a single mother so I enjoy buying for her now

Every year I make my mom a calendar that I sew beads and sequins on so she will be getting that. I'm also thinking of getting her a book called Post Secrets. Her man friend is diabetic so I get him some diabetic candies that I know he likes.

My mom likes to do plastic canvas, so I get her that with some yarn. Also get her a gift card to A.C. Moore so she can get what she wants. If I don't get her the g/c, I'll send her some money. She really doesn't need much.

Mine is getting a G.C. for a massage and a G.C. for a restaurant. Plus little things that I pick up between now and Christmas.

I'm getting my step mom a yankee candle-she loves candles and I think these are the best around, a picture frame with a pic of the kids included to put on her desk at work, a mug with the kids' pic on it (her and my dad always ask for this), some BBW stuff too. I am really trying to do more for them as they do a lot for us and the kids.

I agree the bath and body works slippers are wonderful!!! Target also carries similiar ones for a few dollars less. My son bought me a pink pair with a yellow chick on the front last year and I have worn them daily

I got my mom a really pretty music box and it has a nice poem on top (or I can insert a photo of the girls). I still have to get something for her birthday (Dec 28th), not sure yet on what that will be. I like the slipper idea, so maybe I'll get her a nice pair.

Maybe if you can't find a place to get prepared food shipped to her, you could buy her GC to a local restaurant that delivers. That way, she can pick the days she wants to use it and she just has to call up and give them the GC number over the phone or to the driver(I would make sure first that they can do this). Also, she could then pick herself what she wants to eat.
I'm giving my mom a neat fleece throw that I found at a local bookstore along with some antique china(that I got for free, I know, may sound tacky but I know she will love it), and a small rug hooking that I made.

My sister got our mother a grandmother ring with all the kids birthstones in it. While My DD and I were at the mall yesterday we found a booth selling roses. They're made of wood but look real. We decided that we're going to buy a rose that matches each of the birthstones of her grandchildren and give them to her to display. Since they aren't real, they'll last forever, like her grandchildrens' love

She just bought a new car and she was bummed it didn't come with heated seats. So, I found one at Brookstone thats a cover and heating unit. I'll also get her a GC for a pedicure and manicure.

My Mom is over 70 and she has everything she could possibly want. I am going to put together a gift pack (she doesn't want or need any tins, baskets, etc) of teas, cheeses, jams, etc. She can "use" that and believe me her house is full so I really did not want to give her "things". My son will be 24 on Christmas Day. When he was Kindergarten age he "acted" in some movies for the local research place. He misbehaved like throwing the dog food on the floor and they would stop the tapes and ask the Mom watching what she would do. Anyway I am going to put it on DVD for her. She would really get a kick out of that.

I think putting together a package of foods she would and can eat and enjoy would be a very thoughtful gift. And there are companies like Swiss Colony, Harry & David, etc. that send high quality foods to people. I used to work for Harry & David, it is expensive but delicious and you can be assured everything comes in excellent condition. And it is guaranteed. Once our cheesecake came yucky and they sent us another one no problem.

You can also look in the online phone listings in her area to find food delivery places or restaurants that deliver that sell GCs.

Since our moms are deceased, I guess I will just tell you what my children always give me. I always tell them to save their money but they never listen to me!

The last 6 or 7 yrs they have given us gift certificates to eat out. We love eating out and do it often.

MIL is getting roosters (she collects), manicure and scrapbook of my DDs.
Step mom and my dad are getting a g.c. for a restaurant.
