Do you give your parents/in-laws individual or joint gifts?

I give both. This year I was thinking of giving both sets of parents a joint gift. What do you do?

Depends on what it is. A joint gift is ok if it is really for both. Like cards to eat out so both people get to use it.
Something like an appliance would be used by me only as DH don't cook! LOL.

No. My MIL gets insulted by joint gifts. One year my SIL and BIL got them a wind chime (MIL LOVES wind chimes) in some sort of hunting/fishing theme (FIL). MIL was bent out of shape, and told me and DH: "Yea, you know who they were thinking of. Certainly not me." SHe is very sensitive. I would have thought that would be the perfect combo..... but thinking about it..... LMAO, wow, i guess I wouldnt enjoy having a big ole bass hanging outside my door.
I might occasionally get my mother and her DH a joint gift, but they are such different people, it's just hard to do.
DH and I get joint gifts and usually I like it. But i have noticed that when the gift tag reads both of our names, he hands it over to me to open.

Both.

My mother and I are exchanging purses this year.
My dad will get a gift.
And a "together" gift for them will be a Home Depot gift card. They are doing a lot of renovating/home improvement stuff in their house right now.

My parents are divorced so no Next year though I plan on buying my mother and her boyfriend one together gift and one or 2 individual gifts. One year we bought my inlaws a together gift but I think they prefer individual gifts better. I love my In laws but I do not like buying for them at all. My FIL never really cares what you get him and my MIL is sooooo picky!!!! She can afford to buy whatever she wants so there is never much left to get her for Christmas

I have a very difficult time with my mother-in-law. DH and I have been married for long time and I still remember our first christmas with his mother. She sat in the corner and pouted. She was so mad she stomped her feet and huffed everytime someone tried to talk to her. I asked my husband what was wrong with his mother he said if she doesn't get a lot of gifts she gets her feelings hurt. Now mind you she gives tons and tons of silly gifts last year my son got computer paper from work crayons from different restaurants and so on. It's not that she doesn't spen a lot she does but it is usually junk. So I learned by example I buy tons of knick knacks all year long and wrap each on individually because one year I put it all in a basket she didn't like that. So I have finally learned how to make her happy. So yes I buy individual gifts for in laws and parents.

My MIL and FIL are divorced so they each get their own.
MY Mom and Dad are together - but there isn't one thing in this world that they'd both enjoy unless it was a duplex!
Everyone gets their own.

Before my Dad passed away 4 years ago- we always bought them each something. My Dad was always the easy one to buy for - tobacco for his pipe or some of his favorite candy. Same thing with my in-laws.

We buy for both. Their tastes are so different it's hard to buy a joint gift that they would both enjoy. It's just easier to do it that way.

We always buy individual gifts. This year though, we bought DH parents a combined gift but, they each have a couple other gifts to open as well.

I get them each a gift from my daughter. (This year slippers for him and a robe for her that I got last year for $5 reg $60) Then my husband and I get them a gift. (Usually Omaha Steaks). They don't ever really say anything about what they get so it is hard to even want to get tehm something big. If it were up to my husband he would get them nothing and could care less.

Individual - I like any excuse for more shopping!!!

This year FIL (avid Fisherman) is getting a Fisherman's Barometer (weather indicator as to whether or not it's a good day to fish or not!) and a Cordless/rechargable fillet knife from Dh and me. Then Bonaza DVDs, no batteries needed flashlight, and Camo Jammies (If I can find them in time) from the kids.

MIL is getting A Sapphire and diamond pinky ring, & a clock from Kirklands (her fav store) from us. And from the kids, Tupperware & cooking gadgets for the kitchen, a super soft throw, and Coke stuff (she has a complete kitchen of Coke Cola collectibles).

My father passed away when I was 17 and my Mom will be getting something she asked for - an emergency "all in one" style 5 inch B&w TV, Weatherband Radio, crank Flashlight etc. all built into one unit. and ??? something else, I just haven't made up my mind yet on what...I saw a necklace I liked... hummm...
The kids will be giving a willow tree angel, Kitchen stuff, and special spa lotions, and two movies/dvds I got on black friday (Memoirs of a Geisha and National Treasure with Nicholas Cage)

That's it from our camp,
X
