| Part time jobs
I'm considering part time evening employment. I'm looking for your experiences and what companies you've worked with. What's it like working for Target, Kohls, movie theaters, etc. Work hours? What time does the "evening shift" begin? Basic pay scale? Do they allow a certain day off every week? I would be unable to work on Mondays. |

I work part time as a substitute teacher at the local High School. It works for me, I am home when my youngest gets off the bus in the afternoon, the school is only a few miles from my house and I can basically work when I want to. The only thing that isn't so great about the job is the pay. I make $55 a day. I worked at the HS when my oldest daughter was still in school and I got to be there to experience her High School years, which was an added bonus!

I am a vendor/merchandiser for a sales brokerage company. I order and stock certain merchandise in a store, Yankee candles, Godiva chocolate & coffee, 3 lines of makeup, Calgon, Healing Garden, Coty fragrances, check code dates for Brachs, Nabisco & Planters, put out coupons for Phizer & J&J. I work 23 hours a week and work whenever I want to, very flexible, I make $10 an hour (which is almost twice minimum wage where I live 5.15 an hour). I like this type work because I can be at DD's school functions, parties, basketball games she plays and they are at 3:30 in the afternoon, can work around doctors/dentist appointments, etc.

Alot of different companies have merchandisers/vendors that go to different stores to work, Hallmark & American Greetings, Nabisco, Coke, beer suppliers, Lays (the last 3 require deliveries), Pepperidge Farms, different candy companies, different food companies send their reps in to check code dates and pull the expired merchandise and give the store credit for it (most times you can take home for free). I work for a company that only services military bases, that is why it is a bunch of different companies. I found my job from the person who was quitting the job, I had worked as a merchandiser for American Greetings in the same military base, she had gotten a territory manager position and she told me the position was coming open, it wasn't advertised, I was hired on the spot. I love my job most of the time!

I have a job anytime I want it at JCPenney. I worked there a year and a half ago. Evenings and weekends. It was a good job. In fact, the personnel manager begged me to come back for just 2 weeks for Christmas. I would have, if they were not open until 11pm the last week before Christmas. She even guaranteed me that I would get over min. wage. It is a good place to work.

Do you have any retail experience? I work pt for a women's clothing store as an asst. manager and get $12.00 an hour. I love it! Minimum wage in NJ is now up to $7.35 (I think thats about right, could be off by a few cents). I don't understand how other states don't bring their minimum wage rates up. Substitute teaching like others have mentioned is another possibility if you have school aged kids. Good luck in finding something you love.

How about mystery shopping. I work for a couple of different companies and can pick and choose what I want from what is available. Some jobs pay for say a fast food shop, 7.50/shop plus food you have to purchase. Other jobs can pay as much as $28/job for say going to a bank and asking about opening an account, etc. It's pretty good.
