Talk about the Christmas Spirit

I am just livid - someone went under the shed at my in-laws house and stole my DH & DS's four-wheelers that they got for Christmas last year. This was done last night - we keep them at In-laws because we live in a neighborhood where you can't ride them and they live on three acres with one acre being set up for us to ride for fun. DS is going to be devestated. I may wait until after Christmas to tell him.

I can't believe someone would be so common as to steal the one that belongs to my son - it obviously belongs to a child. DH is out driving the area right now to see if he can spot them - we will offer a reward for their return.

Since they were in a shed not attached to the house In-laws homeowner's doesn't cover them and since we don't live there our renter's insurance does not cover them. DH did not think to see if we could get some other type of coverage on them.

Are you sure the homeowner's insurance won't cover them? I had something stolen out of my car when it was parked outside my house (obviously not attached to my house), and my homeowner's insurance covered it.

Their homeowners insurance should cover it, our sheds and pool are covered and they are not attached to the house. I also have some stuff stored somewhere else and that is covered also. I would check again.

Thanks everyone - I'll see if I can convince my father-in-law to check again. He is one of these people who knows it all so getting him to check it will not be easy.

I'm going to put signs up offering a reward for information - I am going to offer $100 - is that too little? It is really all I can afford right now.

oh, what a shame..it must have been someone nearby..don't you think ? How would they even know there was 4 wheelers in the shed ? My son's bike was stolen one year out front of his school...we found it months later, covered in spray paint.

You did file a police report?
If not, contact the proper authorities and do so IMMEDIATELY. They can enter the 4wheelers in the NCIC database and if they are found somewhere, or are pawned then you will be able to recover them.

My thoughts were just like the ablove post. You need to file a police report. This would also be needed for the insurance claim. The police just might be able to find them quicker as well. This time of year brings out the best in people AND it brings out the worst.
