When do you take your tree and decorations down?

I know everyone puts out holiday decorations at different times so now I'm curious about when you take yours down.

I don't have a rule that I follow for putting up or taking down. I normally wait a few days after Christmas but this year, I'm ready for the tree to be taken down. I hate the bare look after the gifts are gone. So I think I'm taking down the tree today and putting away all the decorations too.
I'm ready for my house to look almost normal again.

How about all of you?

Mine are always down by 9am on the 26th.

I started taking off candy canes, decorations, and garland. Just had unplugged all the lights (our tree is a fake pre-lit) and DH called from work and told me to start taking down the tree. I told him I just had to take it apart and stuff it back into the box and it would be done.

It is all down now, and I have swept/vacuumed the floor. Everything is put away, organized, and marked for next year.

I'm not in a hurry... it's too pretty to take it all down and I am lucky enough to be a SAHM. I take everything down after the kids go back to school. I allow the first day for 'fun' and then get started on the Christmas decorations the next day.

I would love to wake up and have it all down. Since it takes so long to put up and every room downstairs is fully decorated it takes several days. I am in no hurry since we just got the room that holds all of the containers from the attic cleaned up. In years past we have had it all put away before NYE since we go to Florida, but this year there is no hurry. I miss it all when it is down. Our house is very full and warm with the decorations otherwise the house is very palin and basic.

Took my tree down last night. My two cats have been climbing up it, and it was driving me crazy.

But, January 6 just happens to also be my son's birthday so it was just too much for us to do it all and so we have compromised with the school schedule which works out great since we all have all of our new toys all over the place for the next week anyway!

Alot of our friends with kids go out of town to visit family on Christmas...When they return, I like to have the tree and decorations up and have them all over...We always leave everything up until New Years Day...When DH is watching all of the football games, I'm taking the decorations down...The rest I usually take down once the kids get back into school...~Lisa

Will take it down tomorrow. We bought a real one, and if I leave it up too much longer, the needles will fall off and get everywhere! Than I will be finding needles stuck in my carpet for a long time. LOL!

We usually take ours down on New Years Day, but who knows, I may get ambitious and take it down early.

Normally we take our decorations down Jan. 1. I am on vacation this week so they will come down sooner this year, normally I just don't have time to take them down before the 1st.

I love Christmas, but DH has a superstition about it being bad luck for "the tree to see the new year." So, any time between the 26th and NYEve down it comes....

We typically take the tree down after New Years. We often don't get the tree up too much before Christmas, so it really hasn't been around long! I can tell you though, I have about had it with all these Christmas sweets! I ended up taking a whole bag of homemade cookies and throwing them into the woods yesterday for the animals. The deer are loving them!

Tree comes down either Jan. 1st or 2nd. Most decorations come down Dec. 30 or 31st, in preparation for cleaning up in the New Year.

Thank you Linda! We followed the star for 180 miles to get to the hospital when he was born... I kept my eye on that star... it relaxed me. He was born at 1pm on Epiphany.... and he's a wise guy! LOL.

I took the live tree down this morning, since I could hear the needles starting to fall! I'll take the rest of the stuff down when the boys go back to school next week.

I'm the same way. I love Christmas and get excited putting up the tree and decorations and shopping and planning the meals. But once Christmas is over, I'm ready for everything to be back to normal.

We got almost a foot of snow today and I got in a cleaning mode. The needles were driving me batty (and still are since my vacume cleaner won't pick them up). I just want my house back to normal....it's part way there....the rest of the boxes are in the car and it's very cooooold out there right now....

I usually wait until January 1st or 2nd to take everything down. Since DH & I will be staying in a hotel this weekend for our 14th wedding anniversary on NYE I won't feel like dealing with all of the Christmas things when we get back from our relaxing weekend . I will be taking everything down tomorrow and get the house back to "normal"

An acquaintance of mine takes the tree down while her kids are opening their gifts- says as a busy single mom that is the only time she has to do it. That's one of the saddest things I ever heard.

Nothing is so depressing as taking down the Christmas tree. We keep ours up until at least 3 Kings. My dad's birthday was Jan 13th, so we always kept it up until then and now that he is gone this Christmas, I still will keep it up for him.

I usually wait until after New Year's. I will probably take it down New Year's Day this year. I keep anticipating all of the work involved. It is so fun to put it all up, but taking it down is a real pain.

It depends from year to year and what kind of mood I'm in. Ours came down yesterday but it was up right after Thanksgiving this year. It's a fake one so I don't have to worry about needles falling off or anything, but I just needed the house to get back to normal. The sad part is now the house looks bare and boring. LOL!

Ours came down on Sunday, January 7! Does anyone still have their tree up??? Ho ho ho! LOL.

My neighbors still have their yard and house decorated. They usually change by Easter.

What a sweet way to remember your father. I know I would do the same. Ours stays up until the Epiphany. I hate all that work put into it only to have it over so quick. My kids enjoy it as do I. One thing that really gets on my nerves is the stores. They have Christmas music playing and decorations up right after Halloween but the week *before* Christmas , the music stops and the Valentines/Easter stuff is out & it's on to the next money-maker. No Christmas spirit there, that's for sure

Even with waiting until after Epiphany, I was still sad to see it come down. Once it was down, however, I looked around the room and told my DH how clean and nice it was to have it gone. Mixed feelings for sure!

We took ours down BUT one room is still growoing with items to put up in the attic. With all the sales it does not seem to end until February!!
I will be glad when it is ALL packed away, but I am not complaining about finding great things at 90% off!!

TODAY ! ! ! Yes, I've spent about 4 hours so far undecorating my house. My husband does all the decorating around her and does a wonderful job. BUT, if it were up to me I'd have the tree and that's it. He went to his mother's house to tend to his dad and while he's gone I've started boxing this stuff up. There isn't a surface in our living and dining room that isn't covered. We have 2 villages - one on our buffet and one on top of the computer desk. We have a "snowman" corner with all snowmen. It's kind of like a little village in itself. Our mantle and fireplace area is decorated with collectable Santas as well as the top of our china cabinet. We have garland on the mantle, over the doors, surrounding the Santas, ..... We have a tree for our gifts and we have an Irish tree. But, after tomorrow, it will all be packed away again in boxes until next Christmas when you'll hear me stating very firmly "We Have Way Too Much Stuff".
