Anyone highlight their own hair?

Hi,
I was thinking about throwing in some highlights (mostly in front around my face), to cover up the grey I'm starting to see, but have never done this before, so I'm basically looking for some tips on what brands you do/don't like. I was thinking about trying Garnier Color breaks. I saw an article in a magazine, but I'm afraid of goofing my hair up.

Any tips? Please post...I would like to give it a try soon.

Thanks,
Michelle

I do my own but don't use a highlightening kit. I choose the shade I want all over and then pick a shade either one to 3 shades lighter to highlight with. Remember only permanent color will lighten your hair.
I pull mine through a cap. If you want drastic high lights you have to bleach it out and then add a toner on top after its bleached. I foil my daughters but can't do my own...its easier to just pull it through the cap. I have heard some people say they have had good luck with the loreal with the color and highlight in one kit...can't think of the name right now.

I have been highlighting my own hair for years. I have tried many products but like L'Oreal Le Petite frost the best. I have med. dark brown hair and it is the most complimentary and does not look brash. My stylist asked me who did my color and I told her I did it myself and she said it looked good. It is easy to do and the cost is minimal. Good luck!

I use the La Petite Frost or the hairpainting. I just comb it on. I looks pretty natural. It doesn't cover gray, but it makes it less noticeable.

What shade do you use for your med.brown hair? Mine is also, and I was thinking of trying a carmel.
