Glamour shots wants to hang my daughters pic in their studio HELP

I gave this to my daughter for xmas. We went and had the pictures done and sooo many came out good. She wants to get into modeling. She wanted to do modeling before we even went in. anyhoo we purchased several 8x10. I just got a call from glamour shots and they want to use one of her pictures to display in their store (the 16x20) and then we can purchase it after 30 days. We can get a 16x20, a 8x10, 2 5x7, and 8 wallets for $280. Do you think this is a good deal or is a ploy to get more money from me? If it will help her to get anywhere with her modeling I will do it. So what do you guys think? HELP!!!!

If you really like the picture then i say let them do it...They also offered to do my daughters pictures, but I said no. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a picture, no matter how much I like it. I think it is a money maker for them, but I know that they do not offer it to everyone. We have friends who also had pictures done and this was never offered to them.

I would be honored to let them have my photo on display, but I do not think that I would buy the entire package though

Let me say that I know nothing about this sort of thing, so this is FWIW....but it seems like if they would like to use the photo as an example of their work, that is quite a compliment. But what they need from you/her is permission to do so, not an agreement to purchase additional photos. If you were planning to buy more photos, and this gave you a break on the price, then go for it...otherwise, I think they are mostly trying to sell additional pictures.

Let me say first that any offer to display pics of your kid is flattering and a positive sign for your daughter's interest in modeling.

That said. My daughter is a model with Ford Models which is one of the most respected agencies in the world. We had lots of similar situations before signing with them. Golden rule..you should never have to pay. My daughter is 9 now but when she was 2 we had a local photo place ask the same question. They not only didn't ask us to pay but gave us free pics for giving them permission.

Even now we have had people who charge $1000s for professional headshots/comp cards give us free or discounted rates in exchange for permission to use her pics on their website, business cards, etc.

I feel strongly about this because it rings too closely of the "agencies" who will sign you if you pay for their photographers, their classes, their services. When my daughter started modeling she did it with a snapshot from Christmas that we printed on our home computer. We only began spending money when we began making money.

If you like the pics..buy them..but for no other reason should you pay them.

just my opinion

Oh..PS..Glamour Shots will absolutely NOT help her get anywhere in modeling. Agencies want to see the opposite. They want a snapshot of your daughter looking natural. They recognize Glamour Shots from a mile away. Take a snapshot of your daughter in her element looking like her natural beautiful self and send it to agencies. That's going to help her get into modeling 1000 times more and will cost you nothing but some quality time having fun taking pics of your daughter.

I would let them but not buy any more, unless you wanted to in the first place

I personally wouldn't buy the pics. Sounds like a ploy to get you to spend the money. I would tell them you are flattered, but unless they can display it without you having to purchase additional photos, you will have to decline.

My local store wanted to use my childrens also for promos and in their local store. I refused, I felt uncomfortable allowing it...they did not try to get me to buy anything more, in fact they gave me an entire $300 package free.... You have to do what makes you feel comfortable.

I think they should be paying YOU if they want to use your dd's pics for their display. Or at least GIVE you the pic packet.
If I were in your shoes, I'd tell them they could not use the pic's unless you received a full packet FREE or $$$$$ for using it as their advertising.

Wow...I would expect them to give you the 16x20 for Free since they are using your DD photo. If it was me, I would expect it's a ploy to get me to buy more photo's.

I look it at this way their photographer has already taken the photo's so he has been paid already and it doesn't cost them an arm and leg to developed the portrait..but they want you to foot the bill for their advertizement for $280..they are making a huge profit again..

JC Penney's asked to do the same thing of a portrait of me and my son when he was 6 weeks old. I think we allowed them to post the pictures but didn't buy any extras as we'd already spent about $150.

Good luck to your daughter!

I say don't do it...sounds implausible---either they give you free/highly disounted package or no go

Here is some great advice I have. I had Glamour shots taken for last Christmas. They wanted to display my picture in the store. THEY ordered 11 8X10's and 1 10X13 for their store. THEY paid for all of the ones they ordered for the store!!! PLUS they GAVE me a FREE 8X10 for allowing them to use my picture. I recently heard from someone I work with this same thing of charging you to display the picture. I would NOT do it. I think this must be a new ploy to get people to purchase more. I was not charged ANYTHING for the use of my picture AND was given a free picture. Hope this helps you.

A little off track.........when Eryn was almost three months old I had her pictures done at Olan Mills. They picked her for "baby of the week." They put a 10 X 13 of her up on the wall and then gave it to us after her week was over.

I'd let them put your daughters picture up on the wall. I do think they should give you one of the pictures that they put up on the wall for free, though.

Exactly!! With just a tad experience in this sorta thing, I can tell you this is so true. They want to see what the person looks like. Professional model pics are very different than the Glamour Shots. They know just how to bring out the best features so it may look all done up, but there is definitely a difference. (did that make any sense? )

I think they do this to everyone as a bunch of my friends got theirs done when they turned 40 and each one of them got a call asking if they could display their pic and then they could buy it after a month. sounds like a ploy to get you to buy that great big pic.

I'm sure she's beautiful, or they wouldn't even ask, but I too think they are just trying to get you to pay for their advertising. If they want to display her photo's, they should compensate YOU, not the other way around.

Talking

thanks for all the replies. Went and picked up her pics today but did not do the other deal. They never mentioned anything about it except when my DH asked about it and she told him the same thing she told me. They never asked for permission if we just wanted to display it so I think it was a ploy to get more money. Here are her pics .

tried to insert url for images but its not working. anyone know how to get this to work?

They are just getting you to spend more money. They did this to me too when I had my pics done there. AND a so-called modelling agency called me and said they had seen my pics at GS and wanted to offer me a contract. I'd be careful with GS, they really trt to suck every penny from you.
