| Ahhh, I have the BEST stepson EVER!
I have a 13 year old stepson. I've been a part of his life since he was five years old. Love him- he is honestly a great kid and the BEST big brother to Alexis than I could have ever hoped for! Well, we found out recently that he has a MySpace account. I'm so weary of that - do not think it is for kids but I learned long ago that I'm not his parent, I'm the step parent and I watch the boundaries there. But I told him that he had better add me as a friend- I was only joking, he knew this- as I figured he wouldnt want me there - all the other people on his list were friends from school, young kids. But I did just... observe his site every now and then (cant shake the parent role entirely). Well, I was up late last night and happened to stop by my MySpace account to check emails and saw a friend request. LOL it was him. Yay. Such an awesome kid. It made me feel good that he did add me - I had figured he wouldnt since I had teased him about it a couple weeks ago. Just had to share. I'm glad he doesnt perceive me in a negative way- i'm always paranoid about that step parent stigma- and i didnt have the best stepdads but I did have the most wonderful stepmom so I hope she realizes what a positive influence she was to me and how it's come full circle.

I too am included as a friend on my 17 year old sons my space and my 15 year old daughters (both their idea not mne . It is a great way to monitor what they are up too and just helps you stay involved in their lives, I also received and accepted about 15 friend requests from their friends, which is great. I use this as a gage on which friends of theirs to encourage the friendship with. If they are inviting me to their web pages I figure this can only be a good sign.

This thread is too too funny. I, at the ripe old age of 54, have a MySpace acct. I did it because I wanted to be able to read the posts on my nephews MySpace pages after he died. It initially shocked my 29 yo daughter but I'm now her friend and all my nieces and nephews friends and one of my sisters just started her own page. I do have one 21yo son who won't accept me as his friend. He's doing it with a smile on his face to be a little s*it, but I'll wear him down. I don't even know all the ins and outs of MySpace but when I realized I could embarrass my kids I was all for it. Anything for a laugh around here.

Somebody is doing something right when their kids accept parents/steps as " friends"
