shoe sizing questions...

Something kinda odd happened yesterday at the bowling alley.. I was wondering if anyone could help figure this out..

My DD is 7 and wears a size 2 shoe.
DS is 5 and wears a size 1.

Anyway, at the bowling alley yesterday I asked for shoes in these sizes. They handed me a girls 2 and a girls 2.5. I was confused. They said that a boys 1 is the same as a girls 2.5. (So now they had given me a bigger shoe for the kid with the smaller foot.)

I know when they get bigger that the sizes change, but when? At some point will the boys size jump dramatically? Right now they both wear Stride Rites and I know his size 1 is smaller than her size 2.

Am I confused.. or is the bowling guy nuts?

Thanks...

I have been curious about this too...I don't know at what size the change happens.

I'm trying to figure out at what girl's size becomes a women's size. My 10year old went from wearing a kid's size 4-5 to a women's 7...so I am thinking that a kid's size 3-4 may be a women's 6 or so??? Haven't got a clue!

I recently learned about the shoe change. I literally lost it in a shoe store and the YOUNG associate told me for a girl to just add 2 and it will give you the womens. This was at Payless. I had been to the nicest shoe stores in town and not one veteran shoe salesperson had informed me of this. The only bad thing about going from Stride Rite to ladies is the heel. My daughter has only always wanted the flattest of shoes (I am lucky) and finding shoes without the heel is hard. Most of her shoes jsut look like ballet shoes.

ALSO, subtract 2 from a Ladies size and then you have a mens size. It is hard to find a size 5 in Mens unless it is a unisex shoe like Converse.

Don't forget that there are some really great childrens shoes out there, esp Lands End, so shop for yourself. I was lucky to find some great Lands End sandals on Sale at Sears one year in my size~5 childs.

THANK YOU!!!! So my girls that are wearing a 3-4 COULD wear a 5-6 ladies if needed. Thanks so much.

Actually those ballet flats are kind of in style right now so that works! I won't let the girls wear any kind of heel. I just don't think a 7 and 8 year old need to do that...even the big kids sizes are more grown-up looking than we prefer. We've always loved Stride Rite for their classic style...
