Let's do our part to keep the roads safe!!

Friendly reminder... please use wise judgement and choose a designated driver or call a cab.

We need to keep our passengers, other drivers on the road, AND ourselves safe, healthy, and alive. We want for all of you return safely back to us!

This is the end of this public service announcement... *wink*

Oh, and HAAAAPPPPYYY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU! Here's hoping that 2007 will be the best year ever.

I agree-do not drink and drive! There are some great public service announcements out now that state that buzzed driving is drunk driving,-many people think that they are not drunk and impaired if they are a little buzzed. Do not kill someone else or yourselves-please stay safe! That is why I usually stay in on New Year's Eve, or go to a party where I can stay over at a friend's house. I will be safe and happy at home with my children with lots of good food and drink! Have a Happy, Safe, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year everybody!

There is absolutely NO excuse for driving drunk. There are too many programs (or you can call a cab)out there to utilize for this to even happen these days. If you are going to drink then stay home, we don't want you on the roads even if you have had "just one or two" it can still impair your ability to drive/response time, etc. Neither DH or myself drink at all (he's a recovering alcoholic and a drug/alcohol counselor, I choose to not drink by choice) we choose not to be around it period. So we usually stay home on New Years Eve just to stay away from the drunks on the road. I could say alot more but I am trying to do this nicely so I will end here, LOL. Off my soap box now!

DH and I are staying home tonight. However, we'll be up all night and gave our numbers to a few friends in case they want/need a ride home. My DH.... he had a horrible experience last weekend and it's really... shaken us up quite a bit.

So please.... please be safe everyone!!!

If your going to drink don't even take you car, one drink can lead to another, then another, then there goes your power to reason.

My DH is working the night shift tonight, he'll be driving home around 4:30-5AM. Scary !

He was coming home from work on PCH, the beginning of Nov., when this car passed him on the right then tried to take a left turn and hit dh ( almost head-on ) Totaled both cars ! Dh was pretty dazed, we spent the whole day in the emergency room making sure he didn't have a bruised heart, he was pretty bruised but nothing broken. The driver took off, witness said it looked like a female and that someone came and picked her up. It was a rental car from Utah. Police said they get a lot of drunk drivers that time of the morning on weekends, and they usually take-off, then they call and say they just woke up and their car has been stolen.

Please have a Safe and Happy New Year !

Many areas have a program w/ local towing services that will come pick you up and take you and your car home.
It's called Tipsy Tow here. It only runs through the holidays, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE utilize these service if they are available.

I have a friend, who is a Sheriff's Deputy, who was hit head on in a pursuit of a Drunk Driver who is still recovering from the injuries he sustained. It's been over 6 months since the accident. He was just doing his job trying to assist in getting the drunk driver off the road, when the driver made a u-turn and hit the patrol car head on.

My sister was paralyzed by a drunk. .I don't drink. Any parties that I had I fair warned my guest if anyone drinks you need to have a desiginated driver or prepare for me to take you home! I did had a few where I had to take the keys from them ,because they were trying to leave my house drunk. They weren't too happy with me but I didn't care.... I did have one guest try to use his rank on me .I told him I don't care what the h^ll rank you are . I told you have 2 choices you can stay the night or I will take you home.If you don't like that we can called the Commander and we can have a little discussion with him He came over the next morning and apolized for acting like a idiot & thank me for not letting him get in his car drunk

I love the commercial out now where there is all the beverage in the MENS cars and then it pours out when they are pulled over.
NO ONE is above this and I have to say that if someone drinks and drives I do hope they get what THEY deserve!!! I really do not pray for them I pray for those that are out on the road that are just trying to get home.
I know people that have had thier lives turned upside down becasue they got caught drinking and driving. What got me is the anger they had towards the way the police treated them. They did not think of those that they could have hurt. I just love it when you hear someone say "Well I have had more"
Sorry to get on the soapbox but this just angers me.

We saw our local ambulance driver in town this afternoon and asked him how it went last night...

He said that the radio was QUIET and they did not have even ONE call out ALL night.

That was sooooo pleasing to hear!!!

Looks like some people in my couunty were doing their part.

"Drunken driving arrests over the New Year's Day holiday weekend more than doubled this year across the county as residents pulled out their cell phones to report tipsy drivers weaving across the freeways.

The California Highway Patrol arrested 83 drivers suspected of drunken driving over the long weekend, compared with the 33 DUI arrests last year. One person died this year in an alcohol-related accident, compared with no deaths last year.

Locally, CHP officers said the upswing of arrests are a combination of increasingly relaxed attitudes about drunken driving and electronic freeway signs urging people to call 911 when they see drunken drivers on the road.

"More and more, people are calling to report the bad driving habits of other people after seeing those signs," CHP officer Jim Bettencourt said.

CHP officers are out in force during holiday weekends, but it can be tough for officers to spot every driver who may have had too much to drink, CHP officer Katrina Lundgren said.

"You have to be in the right place at the right time to catch a drunk driver – and that just hardly ever happens," Lundgren said. "This helps us to be in the right place at the right time."

Calls reporting drunken drivers to the CHP dispatch center in Irvine doubled over the holiday weekend, with many callers telling dispatchers they called after seeing the signs on the freeway, said Tom O'Donnell, a CHP dispatch supervisor."
