The phone company has screwed up and made our address public.

Backstory:
We are foster parents for my niece. Her birth parents (my brother and his girlfriend) are major meth addicts.My brother is know to be very violent when he is strung out. About a month before we received my niece we moved in order to protect my family (DH and I have 2 boys). We have kept our address secret from the entire family in order to keep imy brother from getting it. I do not want him to get all strung out and decide he wants to take this baby.
Last night my mom was going through her phone bill. She didn't reconize our number so she did a reverse lookup. Not only did our name appear but our address and driving directions did also. I have called our phone company and had them correct the problem but now I am concerned. I have requested that superpages.com and whitepages.com remove my address but it can take up to 5 business days. I also do not know how many other sites like this are around.

I do not know what to do now. If at any time in the past year and a half my brother has looked up our address he could have gotten it. We can barely afford the place we live in now and moving is not an option. However I no longer feel totally safe from my brother.

I just want to call the phone company and scream at them for this potentionally dangerous mistake.

Does he even know your phone number? If not, maybe all is ok?

First, I would consult with an attorney. I am sure this was an honest mistake on the part of the phone company, unfortunately, honest mistakes can be dangerous. Do you have any documentation proving that you requested the information remain private? If you do, I would ask the phone company to change your number and set you up with a caller ID package where you can block numbers, block anonymous calls, etc. They ought to do this at their own cost. I am sure a qualified attorney could offer more advice. I am guessing that you have some sort of retraining order against the unwanted parties. In any case, I wish you the best -- it sounds like you have gone to great lengths to protect this child. God Bless!

My sister found out her private number was place online as you did.

When I say anyone can place this information online I do mean anyone. When I moved to the state I live in now. I started to get phone calls for a person. I have always told them this person doesn't live here & i do not know them...To make a long story short It was a bill collector who thinks I'm this person or knows this person. I did a number search on this lady and found out where she lives & her new number ..A google search was coming up my number but with her address. I then did a number & address search on myself and everything was correct. When I threaten the bill collector he went in put my DH name on her address.& change my number back to her address. I then had to go undo everything he did.
