Started the Diet today

Well everyyear I gain 10-15 pounds during the EAT MY HEART OUT HOLIDAYS! so as usual gained approx 10lbs and nothing fits so today I have decided to try and start. Want to join Weight Watchers and will if I can't get going. Figured if I tell all of you then I will have to fess up if I fail without spending 13.00 per week. So anybody else want to buddy up with me and report in a couple of days if they get this diet going.

I'm on day 12 of my diet...I acually gained quite a bit when I quit smoking about 3 yrs ago!! I hid my scale but snuck a little peak this morning...which actually disappointed me I'm only down 3 lbs...I really thought it'd be a little more...Maybe PMS bloat since that started today...I put the scale back in the closet and wont look again for 2 weeks

It is amazing how quickly those pounds can come on! I desperately need to lose some weight----about 75#. The place where I work is doing a "Biggest Loser" contest. I signed up but didn't watch what I ate at all for week #1. : I am going to start watching what I eat AND start using my treadmill 20 min. each day.

I started my diet on Monday. I'm on Day 5 and I have lost 5 lbs. Whoo Hoo! I'm doing the basic Weight Watchers w/out signing up but for the 1st month during the week is nothing but Lean Cuisines for lunch and dinner. Luckily they have a big selection. This is to get me back into the proper portions I need to eat and on weekends I can splurge a little if I want to.

Good Luck to everyone!

I'm doing the South Beach Diet. Successfully made it to Day 11 today. But, I am not weighing myself until the clothes get loose.

Do any of you have the same problem as I do regarding the scale...? If I weigh myself and I've gained, I figure it's not worth it and will start eating... 'forget the diet'. Conversely, if I weigh myself and I've lost, I figure I deserve a little reward treat and will cheat myself off of the diet.

So, no scale for me until I feel that my body has changed significantly.

Thats why I hid my scale I should have NEVER looked this morning....I figuered I'd check once a month or every couple weeks....I really really really need to take off the weight I put on after I quit smoking....I have no option...LOL there is no way I'm going to stay this way...the last 3 yrs I've slowly gained about 30lbs.....

When I can stick to it, I've found that the eating a bit every three hours thing seems to work. And yes, I'm going to try to stick with it, as tricky as that is with the hours I work. So I wish you all luck, and I will try to make updates, so I'm accountable to someone.

It's so great to know that there are others who do this! It really does a number on my dieting attempts if I start weighing myself. It used to work for me to weigh once a week but now that I am in my 40's and the weight doesn't come off so easily, I too have had to totally ignore the scale. It honestly doesn't even tempt me because they are only numbers to me any more....

I really want to do it this time. I am so tired of failed attempts... I'd like to lose 20 pounds and/or comfortably fit this certain pair of size 12 jeans that are in my drawer; whichever comes first! I'm a 14 now and am 5'8"

I'd love to be accountable to this group! Thanks for getting this thread up and going. I'll be sure to check in as much as possible.

I am still waiting to get over this darn sinus infection before I get back on this diet. I want to be in the right frame of mind. Once you get through the first few days you will be proud of yourself that you stuck to it.

This is how my DFIL lost about 55 pounds a few years ago. He has kept it off because he says he got used to eating less and got used to real portions.

How did everyone do over the weekend?

I have done really well. One more day of Phase 1 - South Beach and then we can move on to Phase 2 (add grains and fruits). Yea!! I'm so excited!

Still don't know if I've lost anything... still not stepping on the scale. It really would 'do me in' at this point.

I stepped on the scale this morning...Its been exactly 2 weeks down 6 lbs!!! I actually thought I would have done better considering 3 days I had some sort of stomach virus....BUT also for 6 days of the last 2 weeks I have done NO working out at all (since I was sick...) Anyways, scale was put away again I'll check again in 2 more weeks...

Tonight my parents want to take us all out to mexican....I so dont want to go (LOVE the food though) I really want to do REALLY good this next 2 weeks and eating out wont help. I think I'll just tell them we wont be going....

Maybe we should start a new weekly diet thread...(this thread will get too long eventually)

OH edited to add....I'm not on any "diet" I'm keeping a food journal and counting calories only.....eating healthy something I can stick with forever!!

We CAN do it!! The support is great here.

As my 87 year old grandma who is thin always says... 'everything in moderation'. Trying to learn that mindset...

Well, after two weeks on the South Beach Phase 1, my DH and I have decided to go back to journalling as well. I never was good at deprivation. I lost 40 pounds a few years ago by journalling and keeping track of every ice cream cone and cookie and it was so manageable for me (1500-1800 calories/day). Sometime in the future I think that I might have to visit the Beach again just to know what I'm missing!

Mackeeg, I'm thinking I kinda like these stretch pants! I'm never buying 100% cotton ever ever again. Just kidding. It really does make you think that you are skinnier then you really are when you wear the stretch ones!

I started my "lifestyle" change last week. I'm down to 1200 calories a day and will eventually bump up to 1500. I had to start at 1 mile on the treadmill and each week I add 1/10th of a mile. I WAS up to 2.6 miles EVERY day before I got pregnant. Hubby is doing this with me, which makes it nice.

Last week was a bad week for me. The first week last time was, too. I LOVE donuts, cookies, chips, candy, etc and I've cut it out completely right now.

I've lost 2 pounds since last week.

Okay, I'm in as well. I actually started dieting the week of Christmas (yes I'm nuts). After many tests and much pleading on my part, my dr agreed to give me a prescription for Meridia. It is in no way a wonder drug, but has really helped me to control cravings for carbs, sweets and things that are generally bad for me. I have to remind myself to eat. If we go out, I am totally full before I finish half the plate. I am amazed at how much food you are given when dining out. I am able to plan my meals, eat healthy and reasonable portions. I lost almost 6 lbs before Christmas (gained back 3) then started working out. I am down 6-8 so far with about 30 to go. The big catch is that my dr will only let me be on the Meridia as a kickstart. She said I can only have 3 months at a time. This is an aid to help me retrain my body and mind what is appropriate. Hopefully my backside and hips will listen too!!!

Maybe we should do a MONTHLY weigh in...I know personally I'm not weighing myself weekly...IT just ruins the momentum I may have going...but maybe 1st of the month we can do a monthly checkin see how everyone is doing...

Ok this is what you need to do, go buy you some smaller sized summer clothes and tell yourself you HAVE to fit into them by summer because you paid money for them. This is what I am doing. There is no way I am not going to fit into those clothes by summer. No way!!! I am angry with my chubby butt for not taking better care of myself. I have kids and need to do this for them because I don't want diabetes like my father has and I don't want my kids to have weight issues because of me. I want to be able to be energetic all of the time not just part.
