Where does your Dog sleep??

Okay before I got my little toy Dog I was one of those people who thought anyone who let their animal sleep in their bed was crazy and I thought it was gross.
WELL GUESS WHAT!!! I am now officialy one one of those crazy obsessed Dog owners who forgets this is an animal and not another daughter (although debatable HAHA LOL). She is fully crate trained but now loves my bed and lies next to me under the covers like a little 8lb Human. She loves me so much that I melt and yep Spoil the little pooch.
So does your Dog sleep in your bed or somewhere else?

Our yellow lab, Scout......90lbs + sleeps right between dh and I in our king size bed. Wouldn't have it any other way. When she was 6 mos old, we had her fixed and she had to sleep in the kitchen for 2 weeks.....I couldn't sleep for those 2 weeks....the bed wasn't the same without her! And OH YES, I SPOIL MY BABY GIRL!!!

Our puppy is six months old and my husband and kids are DYING to let her sleep in some or all of our beds. So far I have remained firm in having her sleep in her crate. She is housebroken, but I just know she'll end up waking ME up not one of them for whatever the reason.

Her crate is in our bedroom however because her first night home she just cried and cried so we finally put it in with us. We tried a few weeks later to move it back to the mudroom...nope, just cried and cried.

Our three pound Yorkie, who is SUCH a baby, my baby, sleeps under the covers next to me...it is really sweet....sometimes!
Our 60lb lab starts out on the floor, next to our bed, on her dog bed...then sometime during the night has learned how to SNEAK onto our bed and sleep at the foot, which is not easy considering how clumsy she is. What is funny is the Yorkie will growl at the big dog from under the covers and the big dog can not figure it out!! She's just a baby though...she'll be 1 in March, the Yorkie is 4 and a grouch.

Where ever she wants!

See, when we got her from the Humane Society, she was going to be an outside dog. But, we had an early spring snow storm and I couldn't let her stay outside. So, she stayed inside and well....we haven't convinced her that she's a DOG. She seems to believe she's human. She sleeps on the bed, in the floor, on the couch, w/ the kids. Where ever she takes a desires to sleep. Yes, she's rotten! Did I mention she's over 80 lbs lab cross (we don't know what she's crossed with--we suspect Rottweiler)

I have few dogs. Some sleep in the bed, some on the floor, some in the chair & one likes to sleep in the bay window.

Both of our beagles used to sleep in the bed with us, but when I got sick and had my surgery, we had to kick them out. So, we ended up buying them cute little beds, which are in our bedroom. Now that Jackson is gone, I'm tempted to put Jessie back in bed with us, but Scott says she really likes her bed, so she sleeps there.

We have a 75 lb basset hound that sheds terribly. He sleeps in the kitchen on his bed that I made for him. I hate having to keep him in the kitchen when we are sleeping or gone, but he has a really sensitive stomach and has gotten sick way too many times on the carpet (throwing up). I really don't think he minds being in the kitchen though. Even when DH and I are home and up, we will be looking for Shorty, only to find him on his bed in the kitchen. We do spoil him though in other ways. We have a special blue blanket that we put on the bed from time to time, and he knows when he sees that blanket that he can get up on the bed and does so without hesitation.

My mom has a toy dachshund, only 6 lbs, who like to sleep under the covers down by my mom's feet.

My grandma, who has always believed that all dogs belong outside, now has a 12 lb cockapoo that not only stays in the house, but sleeps under the covers with her too.

My greyhound used to sleep with me before he passed away. Our other dog sleeps in his own bed either in front of the fireplace or at the foot of our bed.

Now the cats.... I have one that sleeps up against me sprawled out with head on my pillow and blankets covering everything but his head. He stays like that all night.

My dog (65 pound chow/lab mix) sleeps on our brand-new couch with his head on one of the throw pillows. I've tried EVERYTHING to get him off of it. I bought him a great new bed, but he doesn't seem to like it. Every morning I get up and head to the kitchen to get my coffee. I turn on the lights in the living room and he JUMPS off the couch and looks at me like, "What??? I wasn't doing anything." Then he stretches the biggest stretch!!!! He's such a baby. When he went to stay at MILs house while we were on vacation, she couldn't find him one morning. She was calling him and calling him, then went to look upstairs. He was in the guest bed under the covers with his head on the pillow! He has absolutely no idea he's a dog and I swear he looks at me a lot wondering where his bedroom is....

My doggie Bonnie used to sleep under the covers down by my feet too. She has passed though. My two doggies (one 20 and one 70 lbs) sleep on the floor. I allow them on the bed Sunday nights because I wash sheets on Monday. They don't stay up on the bed all night though. Dh would have them on the bed everynight if I would let him. But they take up to much space for me. He says he loves having all his "girls" on the bed.

I guess I'm a meanie.. the kids got a pug LAST christmas and even a year later, house broken and all she sleeps in her crate (not closed though...we dont use the door anymore on it) She stays in the kitchen at night and when we're not home....The way my house is set up...the kitchen and living room are kind of connected...the sofa is across the long way a few feet from the BIG opening, all I do is move her crate and its between the wall and sofa, trapping her in the kitchen. When the kids go to bed at night she automatically knows its her bedtime too and goes in the kitchen... She loves her crate and during the day will sleep there or on the sofa... I could NEVER have her sleep in the bed with me...she snores SOOOOOO bad, I mean like right now she's asleep across the house and I can hear her....At night I can hear her all the way in my room...

thats why I started closing ours in the kitchen!! Such a sensitve tummy she's always getting sick (throwing up and the runs) So much easier to clean if its in the kitchen...My dog loves it anyways...I left her out one day while I ran down the road to the store and when I got home she was in the kitchen anyways until I got back...She looked a little mad that I didn't close it off for her...Makes her feel safe i think!!

I always said "no kids and no pets in my bed".i need my space...our dog (lab/german sheppard) sleeps at our door.and if I end up on the couch ,becaue dh snores too loud.,she come sand follw me there.but she snores too.so I'd rather sleep in bed with a snoring hubby ,than on a couch with a snoring dog.
the cats are in teh pantry ,because the younger one likes to keep our 5 year old up...

My dog (Lhasa Apso - 12lbs) comes into bed with me and dh, she won't go in without me though and if he gets out of bed she won't let him back in, she will actually growl at him and has actually bitten him before!!!! She even tries to take up his whole side of the bed and like I said she's only 12 lbs.

Our dog sleeps in the king sized bed between us when we are both home. My 10 year old sleeps with us also when she is sick so it is a crowded bed.

This beagle is so spoiled. I work nights and she sleeps with DH when I am working and then with me when I sleep during the day!! She is lazy. The one rule I DO have is "not under the blaneks or on the sheets". I am not really a pet person but I do love her now but I do not want her on the sheets. As a nurse, I just have a thing about it.

She is spoiled and lazy!

My big Rottweiler mix, Tyson sleeps between DH and I on a king sized bed. He was only 3weeks old when I got him,his poor mom could not feed her pups as she got really sick and I was helping my friend out by taking one to feed and was supposed to give back. He never learned how to be a dog from his litter mates and now thinks he is human.

The only time he does not sleep with us is if one of the family is gone. Like if one of the kids are sleeping over at a friends he will lay on the couch by the front door like he is waiting for them to come home.

We have a Newfoundland/Lab Mix, and have had him for many years (adopted from the pound). He used to sleep on our bed for about a half hour then he would jump down and sleep on the floor on my dh's side of the bed.
Now, he is getting too old and too big to jump up on the bed (the older he gets, the more like a Newfie he is becoming! All he does is lay around and snore! LOL)

His preference is either on the floor in front of our front door or on the Marble slab in front of the fireplace "Jakes Perch".

We love our Jake!

Our shelties sleep on the floor, the couch or with the kids. They would sleep on my bed if I let them, once we got the last child out of the bed that was it, no kids, no pets. If the dogs want a comfy bed they can crash with the kids.

My dog (50 pound Lab/shepard yes she is thin) is usually on the couch at night, during the day she shares the big couch with my son (he works nights) . When I'm gone for the weekend the night Ireturn she is in bed with me.

OF the 3 cats, 1 sleeps in the living room. One is at the foot of my bed and the other curls up in my arms like a baby, under the covers, purring like a bandit.

Our Great Dane started in the king bed as a baby, but he quickly was taller than me and we had to shove all animals out of the bed. I have a twin bed in the office and my 125lb(very skinny) Dane has adopted that bed. He also sleeps near my side of the bed on the floor, on my daughter's bed, and on the couch. My Schnauzer sleeps wherever he can find the room to curl up, mainly out of the way of Great Dane legs LOL.

All three of mine (Baxter, the 72 lb Basset Hound, Yancey the 10 lbs Silky Terrier, Annie Pearl the 8 lb Shih Tzu) sleep wherever I am. In my bed with me - unless I go to the sofa for some reason - and then all three think they should be up there with me!

Sounds like you're dog is trained well. I have read that if you teach them young to go in the crate, they will be compliant about crating. Also, I have heard that if you let your dog sleep with you, if you ever have to kennel your dog when out of town, the dog will have a hard time with the kenneling experience. It does make sense.

We have a dog that sleeps with us and has NEVER had any difficulty when we've had to kennel. So, like many things, it's going to be dependent on the dog, the kennel, etc.

It always amazes me how they know when they're doing something wrong - they really are smarter than we give them credit for.
I've got 2 dogs - Samantha, a pitbull and Chloe,a shepherd mix. Chloe sleeps at the bottom of the bed everynight - it's like she wants the comfort of the bed but doesn't want to be bothered with me bumping into her so she sticks to the edge of the bed. Samantha tends to sleep around! If she decides to sleep on the bed she's got to be up top and right against me - no far corners for her. Other nights she'll sleep on the comfy chair in my room or sometimes on the couch.

Our Great Dane sleeps with us or on the couch. We are in the process of trying to teach her to stay off of the couch, very unsuccessfully I might add. Like someone else said, I'll come through in the mornings and she hops down like she was never up there.
The Great Dane/Pit Mix sleeps either on his bed or his crate (he loves his crate)
The Poodle sleeps under the covers with us or one of the boys at our feet. Just depends who she has decided to befriend for the day.

Our beagle mix, Bonnie, sleeps in our bed between us each night. She alternates between under the covers and on top of them. Our 100 pound cockapoo, Maya sed to sleep on our floor but kept sneaking into our bed. I finally told my son (its his dog) that she had to sleep in his room, and now she is doing fine in there. Yes, our dogs are just kids to us too.

Our golden retriever Cookie sleeps on the floor in various places in the house...usually in front of the front door on the rug...or in the hallways outside of our bedroom. When I'm taking a nap during the day sometimes or DH is out of town, she'll sleep up in the bed with me. I love having her there! ~Lisa

During the day, Oreo sleeps on our brand new couch (like another poster). At times with a head on the pillow, but usually with her head on the armrest. At night, she'll climb into bed with DH and I to kiss us good night and for one last petting. Then she'll hop down and sleep in her crate next to my side of the bed. If I had my way, she'd be in bed with us every night!

I did always want her to sleep with the kids, bit she's turned out to be my girl

Feeling a little better now; our loveable 4lb. yorkie Brandie slept between us on "her" queen sized bed that she generously, toleratingly shared with us for over 14 years.
Last night we lost her. We let her out (we have invisible fence) and because she was not immediately at the door and it's cold out we checked on her after about 5 minutes. She was laying on the patio. DH thought she was gone! He called to me and I ran downstairs to discover she was not gone, but something was terribly wrong. She seem to be paralized and just able to blink occasionally. She had a weak heatrate and slower than normal breathing rate. We are 30 - 40 minutes from emergency vets that have to be paged and then call us back. We wrapped her in her favorite blanket and cuddled and rocked her long after her last breath. Dh talked to the vet when he called and he guessed like we did that she may have had a stroke with a major bleed. He said if she would have lived for him to see her he probably would have recommended putting her to sleep.
We have since all said our goodbyes, but the sting of loss still burns our eyes.
God Bless all of you with your wonderful pets. Enjoy their warm little furry bodies as they cuddle next to you in the middle of the night. Nowhere will you see unconditional love more genuinely than in their eyes. Brandie didn't care if I had my makeup on or not when we played. It didn't matter to her that I've put on a few pounds over the years. On our worst days she only wanted to love our family, and that was what she did best. She will be greatly missed!!!

We have a toy fox terrier. He will only sleep (at night) on my side of the bed, under the covers. He will nose and nose until I let him under my cover...drives me crazy sometimes, but we love him to pieces LOL

I have a 12 lb miniature schnauzer and he sleeps on the bed with us on top of the covers. If he has his way, he will get behind my knees when I'm on my side and then I can't move. I prefer to keep him near my waist so my legs have room to move around.

I am so glad to hear other people that have pets that sleep in bed with them also. Our 90+ lb boxer/mix sleeps in between us. He especially likes it when I get up from bed and that leaves him my whole side. He got upset with me last night though, I got up for about 30 minutes b/c I couldn't sleep and when I went back to bed, he wasn't happy b/c he had to move over. He sighed heavily at me for a couple of minutes to let me know of his disapproval, lol. He thinks he is human too, maybe because he didn't have the "litter time" someone else was referring to. He likes to lay his head on my pillow also.

I do hate it when he stretches out though, there have been a couple of times I've booted him out of bed because he has almost pushed me out of bed from stretching out.

Our youngest Riley (Black Lab/Rot/Chow/Golden Ret. mix and is 90+ lbs. ) who will be two on Friday sleeps with DH and I at the end of our bed or right beside DH for a "pillow". Sometimes she sneaks between us and usually ends up with all of the covers . She won't go to bed until DH goes to bed though I try but she looks at me like "Yeah right daddy is not getting up " LOL . . Our second to youngest dog Bailey Ann (Black Lab/Husky 57 lbs.) sleeps on the couch because she is a wild child at night and won't leave us alone ... Then our oldest dog Spot (German Short Haired Pointer 56 lbs.) sleeps on the loveseat or the floor depending on his arthritis and if it's the day for his Metacam medicine. I have a big dog pillow I bought for them but they won't sleep on it - LOL
