Question Spin off: Do you like your name?

I was just wondering.

When I was younger I hated my name. No one can pronouce my first name, Danell (Duh-nell). My middle name is for an old lady, Ruth. My last name was spanish and I am so white I don't tan, only burn, Mendez.

Now that I am older I love it. Very few people I know actually say my first name correct, that makes me original. I shared a middle name with the greatest woman I have ever met, my Great Grandma. I am the only one in my family that has this honor. And my last name, Hill, fits me much better.

What about you?

First name is fine but I HATE my middle name. I think it's because before I was married, it rhymed with my last name. My mom thought "it had rhythm". Uh, no, it just made me a target for teasing mom!

Anyway, it's not so bad now that my last name is different but I only use my middle name when I sign my taxes. It's not on anything else. DH doesn't even have a middle name so it's no biggie for me not to use mine

Did you notice I didn't even say what it is? LOL....I don't even like to write it

My first name is ok (lisa) my last name (married name) is as common as Smith or Anderson. BORING. We should do a spin off and ask how people came to have their names. Mine was off a street sign, I would have been slightly peeved if my mom named me Main or Elm. Or Sixth. LOL. Or Broadway, such a stripper name!

I like my name Lisa alot...although there were sooooooooo many girls with that name when I was back in school...I think if you were born in 1963, that was THE name...My Mom happened to love "As The World Turns" and the character Lisa (Eileen Fulton) is still on the show all these years later! My middle name is Ann which I don't care for that much. Most Lisa's middle names are either Ann or Marie (which I like much better). I hated my maiden name...it's French and everyone always screwed up the pronounciation...My married name is very easy to pronounce and it's very common... ~Lisa

I like my name, too, but it's always mispelled. I never go by my middle name--Gay--but I understand why my parents' used it. At that time, way back in the late 50's, it had a totally different meaning, and I guess they thought I was going to be happy! LOL! Also, my brother's name is Jay, so I guess they thought one day we would want to go by Jay and Gay. Go figure. Anyway, I use my maiden name instead...DeVille...and I LOVE that. In less than five months my last name with change, but I will probably just put the two together (Robinson-Horton). I think it will be easier for the kids at school that way.

No strong feelings on my name either way. Being born in the early eighties, you could only be Amanda, Jennifer, or Heather.

I like my name but I just wish it wasn't so common. There are always two or three where I work. Catherine but no one calls me by my name; they always shorten to Cathy or Cat.

I am a Lisa as well... I hear the other Lisa's about there being so many of us back then! Now, my kids never have any Lisa's in their classes. I really like my middle name, Celeste... I have a lot of fun telling kids to guess my middle name and telling that it starts with a 'C'. I get all kinds of wierd looks! and no one ever guesses.

So, yes, I like my name 'Lisa Celeste'.

I guess it's okay.
My maiden name was short and unusual and very similar to another, more comman last name and everyone always assumed that I was an idiot and that I did't really know my own name or didn't know how to spell it.
Now I have a short, more common last name name that somehow people can't seem to hear correctly.
When it is written, they have no problem.

I can't believe how many Lisa's there are here! Wow. When I was growing up, I used to pretend I had a twin sister and her name was Lisa. I even fooled some boys once and made them think I was her. That was fun.

I never really cared for my name, still don't, Tracy because there are just as many boy Tracy's as there are girls. I also get sick of people asking me how I spell it since there are a few variations ("is that with an ie or, ey" and I say "just y") Had that conversation at least a thousand times. My middle name is Ann, very common, very boring. My maiden name is long, Huddleston, but I liked it (except writing it) Now I have an Italian last name that my DH says took a while for me to pronounce correctly and most people don't say right, Pallotta. It's said just how it's spelled (Pa Lot a), but it just doesn't roll of the tongue easily.

I don't like my first name at all (Geraldine) and I don't even have a middle name to dislike. Seems like the older I get the more offended I become. I love my parents dearly, but, what were they thinking??? The age old excuse of young parents using funky names doesn't apply here either.

I hate my name too. I am one of a billion Heathers born in the seventies. It sounds like a little kid, not a grown woman. I really tried to think of another name to have it changed to in high school but never came up with one that was great.

Well Lori was a popular name back when....it's ok I guess. Most of my cousins and I have Ann in the middle, BORING!

I was almost a Lisa-Marie but dad vetoed that one. mom is a big Elvis fan...lol

Only annoying thing was that there were at least nine of us in my graduating class. I actually counted this recently in my yearbook, so nine unless I missed someone!

Not many Lori's these days.
I just ran across a younger one recently though. One of the managers at work has my sons name and his daughter is a Lori.

My maiden name was ok, very common to the area except we spelled it differently and everyone always thought I was wrong.
Love my married name, it's very cool.....

Everyone hears ours wrong too!, We never know what name the pizza will come under...lol

Jennifer--hated it growing up. Still not too crazy about it. When someone says Jennifer now, I feel like I'm either in trouble, or it's something official!! Prefer Jenny or Jen.

My Mom's name is Geraldine and she hates her name too! She was born on Valentine's Day so it was either going to be Valerie or Geraldine after some actress that my Grandfather liked! She still can't believe they didn't go with Valerie! LOL. She spells her name Gerry for short...and people always think it's a man's name...And yes, there are too many Lisa's on here! Told you it was popular back in the day! LOL! ~Lisa

I hated my name growing up, Suzanne. I wanted to be named DJ (after full house) kept telling my Mom when I was 18 that I would change it. Never happened..I like it now, not too many of us. One thing that annoys me is when people call me Susan, sing O Susannah to me.

I love my name, Jocelyn Michelle. When I was growing up, it was not a very common name. I have heard it more lately, but it is still unique. One of my maternal grandmother's best friends was named Jocelyn, and so she gave my mother the name as her middle name (Lorraine Jocelyn). So I have my mother's middle name and she liked the name Michelle. When I was a kid, I used to love the Beatles' song, Michelle. I remember getting very excited once when I saw an ad in the New York times magazine with an expensive gold bracelet with the name Jocelyn on it when I was about 10 or 11-nobody seemed to have my name back then!

Mine is Robin and I did not like it growing up only becasue there were never things with my name on them.
(Personalized bike plates, bags, barrettes, bags, lunchbags, etc.)
I like the story of how I go it though. My mom and cousing were watching Batman and my cousin told my mom to name the baby Batman (No said my mom) Catwoman (No said my mom) Robin (Yes said my mom).
My middle name was also a tv name, Daphne. 7Up had a commercial of a young bolnd California girl in a MG that had broken down and her boyfriend said Push Daphne. My mom just feel in love with the girl and the rest is history.
I have never had any connection with that name though.

I like my first name - Helaine - it's very different and people always comment on it after I've had to correct them on how to pronounce it - I've gotten some interesting pronunciations of my name over the years - but I've liked having a different name

How funny...my name is Mary Christine too (I thought I was the only one)! I go by Christine because I never liked Mary. My family called me Tina (and still do), which I hated growing up, and some people who know my full name call me by both and I often get Christina or Chris too.

My real name is Antoinette, which I have always loved. (Toni for short) Now, my middle name has been a nightmare my entire life! It's "Eugenie" with a hyphen over the last "e". Supposedly, it's french! It's pronounced, Janine. I remember being moritifed on high school graduation rehearsal. The guy pronounced it just the way it looks! Guess it could be worse!

I used to work for a major airline in Flight Attendant Recruitment and would input applications into the data base as they came in. I could not believe how many Lisa Maries there were born in the '60's. There was only 1 Lisa that I found whose middle name was not Marie. I figured it was an Elvis thing.

My name is good, Kelly Michelle, but also have to deal with the "y, ey, or ie" thing.

My sister's name is Patti Sue and my sister-in-law's name is Penny Sue. (They kind of sound hick huh?) Both are their first and middle names. People always think they are short for something such as Patricia Susan or Penelope, but no. And people always want to spell Patti with an "ie".

My other sister has a beautiful name, Lynn Marie.

I love my children's names; but I guess all parents do or why would we name them that?
