The rule in the house is, the person that is doing the laundry gets to keep it. Now, I probably would have done the same as you with the $100, but loose change and singles....go right into the piggy bank I keep in the laundry room. Now, I'll someday probably use that money for something for the house, but right now its only about $10 in change and a couple singles.

I keep it- dh gave me his 100 Christmas money, so I would have kept that too lol (he bought a bunch of video game stuff with our "regular" money, and I spent my Christmas money on household items). He gave his to me to buy something for the house.

Well considering his money is my money and my money is his money i'd give it back. He doesn't care what i spend and i have access to whatever i want so it doesn't matter if i keep it or not.

I keep a jar in the laundryroom. When ever change or dollar bills fall out of the wash/dryer, it automatically goes into the jar. If someone in the family complains about losing money in their clothes and can give me the amount, I give it back to them. Otherwise, it sits in the jar unclaimed. Eventually I take it out and put it in my purse! :O)

If it's a stray quarter I ususally just put it aside in my change sorter..If it's more than that, then I will asked the kids how much money you have and give it back to them.. When I was doing my brothers laundry I found $147.00.(bills & change ) He was shocked when I gave it to him ...he didn't even realized he had that much money...I bought him a change sorter after that so he can empty his pockets of loose change

DH does the laundry, he normally keeps it, unless I know I had say $5.00 in my pocket and now my jeans are missing. Its the rule here too, he washes he keeps whatever he finds. I always try to remember to empty my pockets when I take my pants off ![]() Like another poster said my money is his money and visa versa so it really doesnt matter

Change I put in the change jar, when it's full I roll all the change and keep it, I figure if I'm the one that does all the work then it's all mine. I keep the paper money. Finding a $100 would be fun, I could tease dh for a long time about that. Yes I'd keep it. |

Found laundry money is the payment the wash lady gets. (I usually leave it around the dryer so that I can offer it to my daughter to come and make "pick ups" of her clothes. It's amazing how fast she will come and put away an armful of socks for 35 cents!!)

Rule at our house: you get to keep what you find in any pockets when you do laundry. This was the rule when I was a kid growing up too. It was great incentive to do the laundry because my dad was ALWAYS leaving money in his pockets. I found $200 once and I did tell my mom who told me to keep it....those were the rules I do most of the laundry haven't found any $$$ yet in the 10 years we have been married

| I normally find small change like pennies, nickles and dimes. That goes on the shelf. If it's a bill I will try to track down the owner. It's fairly easy, you can usually figure out whose it is by the clothes in the washer/dryer. If I found a $100 bill I'd definitely return it to my husband because I expect the same consideration.

I would of put it up and then waited to see how long it took him to say anything, then maybe let him sweat it for a day or two longer. $5 is one thing but $100? I have 2 jars on the dryer, one for pennies and one for other change and bills. If I know it belongs to one of the kids or they ask about it, I'll give it to them. DH uses it for treats at work, refills of pop when he's going out, newspaper. I also dump all my change in there (mostly use debit card so I don't have a lot), and any I find laying around the house, if it's getting low I'll throw in a few dollar bills. He takes his lunch most of the time, as long as I have enough stuff for him to take he doesn't really use it to much. I found another really good use for it. If the house is a mess and the kids are not in the mood to help, I've taken some change out and tossed it around in the rooms that need cleaned with out the kids knowing, then point out a couple coins and tell them if they help me clean they can keep any change they find as long as they finish helping me clean. All other times found change must be put in the jars. They will even pull the sofas out and clean under them when I do this (I always toss a couple quartes under them so they'll clean under them next time). For a couple bucks in change I get a clean house with no fighting or whinning. |
