Fun thread!

Here is a cool website... www.typingtest.com

There is a typing test in the middle of the page. Requires Java.

My net score for one minute was 70 wpm. Not bad, if I must say so myself, ha ha.

OMG, chettas... I thought 70 was fast! Your fingers must just fly! Wow!

I took typing in HS too (9th grade) with a teacher that was something that tv shows are made of. She was about 200 years old, completely cross-eyed and scared us all to death by her demeaner. She was completely no nonsense and was an amazing typer. This was in the day where we had to use shields over our fingers so we'd not look at them.
However, until the invention of the internet and IM's, my typing was just mediocre. I took a typing test a few years ago when trying for a job at the school district and I scored at 88 wmp. I hung that certificate up for many years after. I think my typing has improved even more since then but i'm too cheap to spend the $20 to go take the test again just to have a piece of paper to hang on my fridge!

Normally I type around 80 wpm. I just took the typing test and scored 77 wpm, so not too bad.

Boy, I'm not sure what my WPM are now (I know it's slowed down a little bit) but, in typing class I always scored the fastest times. I typed 104 WPM.

I'm going to take the test now......

Okay, I took the test 4 times (utilizing each of the 4 paragraphs) and my fastest was 89. I'll blame it on my acrylics!

NOT AT ALL !!!!!!!!!!

I never typed until I got my first computer eight years ago Christmas.
I still type basicly one handed. But my speed has improved a little since I became a little familar with the keyboard.

Not long after I got online, I was "talking" to someone on AOL instant messsage. My granddaugher, who at that time was about 8 yo. came in the room and asked me why I wasn't typing with both hands.
My reply was "don't you think if I just knew how, I would?"
These kids now days get it very early in school (called keyboarding) and by the time they leave elementary school they can fly across the keyboard.

I wish I had learned in school too, but back then typing was an elective subject, and I elected to do just what was required and no more. I thought I had better things to do.
BOY, if I just would have known then what I know now, things would have been different.

Ive been typing for years and still have to look at the keyboard. If I look, I can go really fast but if I try to type without looking I make too many mistakes. I'm jealous of people who dont need to look!!!

You just described ME! LOL.
I got my first computer in 1998 and did the one finger typing. I have moved up to the one hand and a couple fingers on the other hand now.
I look at the keys and then I check the screen and still have to make corrections!

We didn't know about computers way back when I was in school!.
