| Sinus Trouble
I just moved to Indiana from Pennsylvania in May. I have had sinus trouble every since we moved here. Is there anything I can do besides move or keep going to the doctor? This is terrible. If anyone could give me any help please post! Thanks in advance.

I am going to move this post to The Cafe. I think you will get better response there. Sorry about your sinus troubles.

The only thing I know for you to do is seriously go to the doctor and get tested for allergies. My friend is from Egypt and she never had this problem when she lived there but since she has moved here it is awful for her, I feel sorry for her because she always has a tissue in her hand.

You should see an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor or an allergy specilaist. My regular doctor referred me to an ENT and I ended up having sinus surgery and a septoplasty 1 1/2 years ago. I had my sinuses scraped out, a polyp removed, and windows put in my sinuses so that they drain better. I have still had a couple of sinus infections since then, but I don't get the sinus headaches nearly as frequently. Also, a sinus rinse kit is a great idea. I know they sell them at Walgreen's. The one my doctor gave me is made by NeilMed and it comes with packets of saline solution. I know it sounds really disgusting to squirt water up into your nose, but it's really not that bad - and it helps. A couple weeks after my surgery I had to start doing it twice a day and I still do it sometimes if my sinuses are bothering me. If you get the kit though, just make sure you use it at least an hour before you go to bed and carry a tissue with you wherever you go since your nose will still drip when you tilt your head. FYI, the sinus rinse kit is nothing like the nasal sprays. My doctor prescribed Nasonex for me and I just couldn't use it. Last edited by jlferick; 01-22-2007 at 09:59 AM. |

I have sinus problems to, but i hate hate the feeling of the stuff up my nose. I was on many diff nasal sprays and they made me gag when the dripping starts down the back of my throat. I much rather deal with the blowing of my nose and the sneezing. I just use tylenol allergy or sinus and that seems to help.

I have both sinus and allergy problems. During the day I use either Sudafed or one of the non drowsy antihistamine pills depending on whether my nose is running or stopped up? At night Benedryl or the Chlortabs from Walmart . Read the packages to see which one you need. The saline sprays are good too. ![]() yes, I have had those the tests done twice. |

I only get this once in awhile, thank God, but when I do, I find that a facial steamer really helps me. I just put my whole face in there and the steam seems to open up my nose and relieve the pressure. DH bought me one for Christmas one year and it's probably the most useful thing I've ever gotten. Especially when I get the sinus pain and stuffiness in the middle of the night. Hope you find something to make you feel better. DH swears by saline solution nose drops. ~Lisa |
