I have a living room filled with antiques. I'm infatuated with art work so I have a tremendous amount of oil paintings in guilded frames, Old family pictures in sepia and black and white, and also the obligatory antique furniture (1800's) to go with it. Last year I painted the walls a Deep Merlot color-and most of the furniture is pink, white and green floral..so it really sets it off with the dark walls and gold picture frames.

Victorian ..My pictures consit of victorian ladies, roses,a little girl picking blackberries. I have figurines and sconces surrounding all the pictures.. I have a Ficus tree that I decorated with clear lights(looks really elegate) I aslo have a flower arrangement made with greenery and roses.

I'm keeping the Victorian theme. but I need to replace the furniture...I will be getting a new living room suit as soon as I can find one that I like.I have been looking for 5 years now .......It took me 3 years to find my victorian bedroom suite. I finally found it a year ago..brown cherry with all the detailng I was looking for. I have Bed Asemble made by Chris Maddison that I fell in love with.As my Dd friend put it My room looks like a Princess Room. . About 6 months ago I bought DD & DS a red cherry sleigh bedroom suit...i really don't care for red cherry but that is what they choosed. So the only thing next is Living Rm,Dinning Rm & Computer Rm and I'm done!

Actually our whole house (except for DD's room) is done in the lodge/log cabin/beer/moose theme. I have antique snowshoes on the wall, antlers, antique wooden skis, fishing baskets, canoe shelves, etc....

I don't have a theme, just a color scheme.... Lots of very bright things with white walls. We have a nice family photo collage arrangement on one wall over the sofa. Probably not much help!

What are your interests? talents? What style have you seen that you like? What type of home do you live in (ie log cabin, stucco, brick, Victorian)???

There are some great shows on redecorating on HGTV. I like Painted House (but think it was cancelled ) and Divine Design best. I love to watch but then still just do my own thing and pick and choose from their ideas.

www.hgtv.com is also a great resource.

LOL - can I come over for a cold one?

I guess my LR leans towards country or cottage, but it's more of a mix of what I like - not one particular style

Global/traveled was the look that I was going for.
African masks, black white pics, dark armoire, dark console table and shelving unit (from Target Furio collection), iron cofee table, wood screen in corner, eclectic wood, metal, & glass accesories, slipcovered sofa + chair w/ pillows from the Global African line at Target, and a quilt hanging on the wall (from the same Global line).

It looks great, if I do say so myself). It's one of my most favorite rooms in the house.

No theme, but the walls are a barely blue color. The carpet is a light gray. Will have white woodwork when we are finished remodelling. Couch and oversized chair and ottoman are red. Another chair is red, blue, green and tan plaid. Also a small wooden chair with red cushions, which may get a makeover.
I will be using several white "things" on the wall and a few small pictures. When he gets time, DH is going to put up a shelf near the top of the walls and run one of his model trains through the downstairs rooms. I have wallpaper borders and a few flat wooden houses and trees and things to "landscape" the train route. We also have a red and white quilt that DH"s grandmother made that is hanging on a wall quilt rack. The room is long so we have added some light wooden cuboards across the far end and will be building shelves on top of them. There will be a large opening for our TV. We have one veryl arge picture window in the room. My favorite thing is an antique china dabinet that I inherited from my uncle. Sorry to rattle on so, but I am really proud of ,and happy with, all of our ideas and plans.

PS.........Just had new vinly flooring put in the entryway, dinign room, kitchen back hall and bathroom.
It is a very light soft green and I love it! Have new kitchen cupboards, counters, sink and faucet too.
After many years in living in an awful house we are finally able to do it up right!!!

Not much of a theme in our living room, although some days it is late Toys R Us.....

We have antiques mixed with new. I have some beautiful carved wood furniture from my great-great grandparents and we recently bought a new sofa and loveseat in brown suede. We also bought a new coffee table and end table with carved wooden details and glass tops. We have burgundy throws and gold mirrors. It's actually quite nice. We'll be putting in hard wood floors with our tax return money.

When we finish our floors and repaint, I'll post pictures.

Hope you all have a great day!

Kim

Not really a theme...color scheme....My kitchen and living room are sort of connected. Living room is yellow walls...one wall goes from the living room into the kitchen and the one wall has the yellow...the kitchen other walls are a peachy color. Throughout the living room and kitchen I have various cranberry red accents. Also a few sunflowers here and there...thats because my dish pattern

We just bought a Colonial style home, and I want to decorate in the 20's style. I am starting in the foyer and working my way back through the house. I want warm tones that are neutral so it won't clash with anything realy art deco I buy. :-)

My husband would be in heaven if I did the lodge theme....maybe in our next house....*L*

I was going to go with a southwestern theme since I just moved to Arizona. I will do that later when I get a house and have a more formal living room. I bought home theater seats for my living room a few weeks ago so I'm going to start with movie theater theme. I got an old fashioned popcorn popper and a hot dog cooker too. I just need to get some movie posters and get them framed for the walls.

Well, it would look right now that we are going for the "Quaker" look. Not a lot of furniture or decorative items in the room yet. We thought we would be moving this past summer, so didn't do a lot of improvements. We are sloooowly starting to add to the room-it is a soft yellow color, and we have sort of mustardy-colored couch/loveseat and we are starting to add a lot of black, wrought iron, and red accents. I am waiting for some leather chairs and ottomans to go on clearance at Sam's club. It's a big room and looks pretty empty right now.

I never really thought about a theme for a living room. Mine is mostly antiques, most of my house is antique furntiture though, brought over from England inherited through family. I do have 2 couches and an entertainment center (I hate the entertainment center though) that are not antique in the living room. As far as artwork, I have some Native American prints on the wall. Decorative stuff is all antiques, CocaCola and original pottery of my own (I throw on a potters wheel).
