So, they are replacing Trans Fat ( partially hydrogenated oil ) with interesterified fats ( fully hydrogenated oil ). It lowers your HDL and raises your Blood Sugar 20 % Interesterified fats are already being used as a replacement for trans fats in commercial foods. Consumers can find out whether their newly "trans-fat-free" crackers and cookies have interesterified fats by looking for "fully hydrogenated oil" on the package's ingredient list. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070124/...trans_fat_dc_1 |

All in the name of saving them some money... ![]() I do most of my own baking and stay clear of certain ingredients. Fully/Partially-hydrogenated oils being something that I personally avoid. For instance, there are many peanut butters that have 0-trans fat; advertise it on the front!! But if you read the ingredients, they contain fully-hydrogenated oil (palm oil). I buy the store brand with the oil floating on top, pour out a little bit, stir and refrigerate. My children LOVE it (except the one with PB allergy!... that's another thread!)!!! I use real butter and/or olive or canola oil in my baking. The closer to nature, the better. It is hard to shop in this day and age....so much safer and heart-healthy to do it yourself! Of course, all of this could be proven *wrong* in another 5 years or so!!!... FIL has eaten whatever! for 86 years and has the healthiest heart! Go figure. |
