UCI needs riders for 'Space Cycle'
Volunteers would be part of blood pressure study.
The Orange County Register
UC Irvine physiologist Vincent Caiozzo says he needs volunteers from the public to ride the Space Cycle, a human-powered centrifuge that might prove useful to astronauts serving on long-duration missions.
Caiozzo need riders as part of NASA-supported research that's studying human blood pressure. Scientists are concerned about the issue because astronauts returning to Earth or working in low-gravity environments can pass out if their blood pressure isn't regulated correctly.
Caiozzo is looking for volunteers age 20-45 who could ride the Space Cycle for 30-45 minutes.
The offer is open to men and women, and applicants will undergo health screening.
To apply, call the UCI Space Cycle lab at 949-824-3356.
