Hmm...let's see:

DS (Almost 13): Football, basketball and baseball (Will be track instead this spring)
DD (Almost 12): Competitive dance, softball, basketball, cheerleading, quiz bowl, student council
DS (9): Baseball, soccer, wrestling (those may be over soon. He doesn't like sports much!)
DS (Almost 7) :Baseball and wrestling. He seems to want to stick with those though.

All of them go to church classes every Wed. for most of the school year also. It seems like a lot, but everyone does only one sport a season and DD's school activities are usually during school time. (OK quiz bowl is 5 Monday evenings during Jan. and Feb.) The major thing is dance all year.

They still have time to do things as a family, take day trips, go to friends' parties, study and get super grades and play an instrument, do chores at home, visit relatives, go to church and just be kids.

MIL insists that the kids schedules affect their "home life". Please...maybe they have less time at home, but their "home life" (Ie. the atmosphere, etc.) is great! LOL They just have less time to watch TV and play video games. This from a woman who didn't even attend her kids' stuff.

My daughter palys basketball for her school and will be trying out for the school's soccer team next month. (Basketball will be winding down)
I tell her she can play what she wants as long as it does not interfere with her school work.

My 7yr is in brownies. We tried our son out for tae kwon doe and he was to shy to continue the classes so we removed him. He really needs an activity as he is very agile and very active 5 yr old. I am thinking of enrolling him in something else just not sure what yet. He doesn't go to school till september.

My 12 YO DD is in competitive dance 3 nights a week, fall & spring outdoor soccer, winter basketball and plays flute.
My 10 YO DD is in competitive dance 2 nights a week, fall & spring outdoor soccer, winter indoor soccer, summer softball, Junior Girl Scouts & piano lessons.

The rules in our house are they do what activities they want and we support them. But, grades must stay up, homework must be done and once they sign up for an activity, they must complete that season. They cannot quit because they don't want to practice or whatever..but they absolutely do not have to sign up again if they don't want to. It's their choice what they do. They may miss a practice here and there if they are heavy on homework that night - school comes first. They have developed excellent time management skills.

My 9 y/o DD is a Junior Girl Scout, plays football, gymnastics and loves Basketball-- Brag coming(she scored 14 points in her game the other night last year she had one basket a foul shot all year)

My 15 DS plays football but his true passion is baseball which he plays about 10 months a year- He is sidelined right now as he broke his foot playing volleyball in gym but his baseball team started with indoor baseball the first week in January.

My 10 year old DS is in a chess club, plays the violin, and plays soccer.

My 13 year old DD is with the media crew at her school, plays the violin, and plays soccer.

My 15 year old DS plays lacrosse, plays viola in the string group at our church, and plays viola for Centennial High School. We are so proud of him...he just made first chair in All State for Georgia for violas. Last year he just made it in at last chair (16th) and swore he was going to make first chair this year. It's very hard to get in with so much competition, let alone be first chair. I admire him for his determination and dedication. His name is Tim Richardson...scroll down to high school viola (yellow section)...the links are below...Can you tell I'm so proud? His teacher said that alot of schools are keeping an eye on him...Cincinnati, Cleveland, Eastman, and Indiana...all with very good music departments! OK, I'm done bragging...sorry guys! You know how it is to be proud of your kids...which we all are! ~Lisa

Wow, I don't have my 4 year old in any activities and he can not play organized recreation league sports until he is 5 and in kindergarten-the rec dept. here does not allow it before then. Then I will let him play soccer and T-ball. He has an older sister and brother who are his activities coordinators, lol!

As far as the twins, who will be 10 on Monday 1/29, my daughter takes ballet classes and did a Nutcracker performance with the Moscow Ballet and is doing another dance performance in the Spring(not the regular recital). She will do softball in the Spring and takes violin lessons at school. Her twin brother plays indoor soccer and after school basketball now, is on a travel soccer team in the Fall and the Spring, and does baseball in the Spring. He takes violin lessons at school too. Both of them are involved in a weekly math enrichment prgram for 2 hours on Saturdays. I almost forgot, my daughter is in Girl Scouts this year too. I get tired just thinking about the running around that I have to do to get them back and forth, and I know other children who twice as many activities!

My 10 year old is involved in a local singing group, she actually singing the national anthem tonight at our varsity basketball game. She is also an avid bowler like her dad, and she can bowl circles around me, I think her average is up to 130 something, but she is pretty consistent w/bowling 160s or so. She loves to make her mom look bad when we bowl together. LOL!
My 5 year old daughter is in daisy scouts, bowling, and cheerleading. And, during the summer she plays tball of which my husband coaches.
My 4 year old does bowling also, and tball during the summer. She has been asking about soccer so we may try to put her in that soon.
Between working and me going to school full time, it leaves for a crazy schedule, but they love it so we deal with it.

Wow!

Everyone's kids do so much! I can remember when my boys were younger doing so much, also. I wonder now how I ran from place to place to place and could fit it all in, be a housekeeper, mom and wife at the same time!

I do not for a minute miss those days! But, I do hope you will enjoy the memories your children are making for not only themselves, but for you also, in the years to come. I enjoy the pictures and memories of all that they did growing up.

My youngest, who is now 13, does a few activities:

He just finished playing five years with the Youth Football team in our area. For now, he does Boy Scouts, Guitar Lessons and is currently training with a professional equine trainer with his new horse that we bought him. Oh, and he goes to school (the biggest activity of them all!)

We only allow one activity per child per season...really value our family time...plus between school, my husband is the pastor of a church and their one activity, there isn't much time left in a day!

Oldest and two youngest are currently very into karate...oldest may take a season off to try softball. Second oldest (8yrs) is a level 5 gymnast and we are slowly being introduced to a whole new world of gymnastics meets.
Oldest also plays Viola, but has lessons at school.

We are boring...

My kids do school, homework, play, family time, and then bedtime!

On weekends, we go hiking in the mountains, ride horses, go to the park and visit family 2 hours away in two different directions.

Absolutely no interest in anything else. They'll have great memories as well.

Thought I'd jump in here and see if anyone does what we do!?

LOL.

Driving me crazy is the only activity my DD is involved in! Every time she wants to do something she stay with it for about a month then decides she hates it. She is ADHD so it's really hard to keep her focused. She did take horse riding lessons and loved it but I had to stop those because we could no longer afford it. I was very sad to have to do that because it was the one thing that held her interest.

Sounds almost identical in my house:
DD (11) is in competitive dance 4x a week & piano 1x week
DD (9 1/2) is in competitive dance 3x a week, competitive gymnastics 4x week and piano 1x week.

They must, must, must keep up with their school work and they do. They wanted all these activities and love doing them so we support them all the way but they do understand that school always comes first and they're both doing a fantastic job!

6 yr old twins...

Son - Coach Pitch Baseball, Fall and Spring Soccer, Basketball, Football camp

Daughter - Coach Pitch baseball (will be softball this yr), Daisy Scouts, Gymnastics, Baton, Cheer, Fall and Spring Soccer, Basketball

Activities usually don't run into the same seasons. Example, basketball was only 1 month long/2x a wk, Cheer is only 3 wks now, 1 wk in summer. We do the majority of our activites through the YMCA and my husband usually coaches whatever sport they are doing. We have the same rule as others...you can't quit during a season, but you don't have to sign up to do it the next time. We were new to this community 2 years ago and have really met a lot of people by being involved!

You are not alone

The only activity at my house is my son (11) goes to Awanas on Wednesday night. I'm a single parent, and don't have the energy or money for all the "extras". We enjoy quiet evenings at home doing homework and other stuff

13 Yeal old ds is in Honors choir and Show choir at school. They do preformances all over the place, locally. He currently has the part of "Troy" in "High School Musical" which is the play his middle school is putting on.
Being the lead he has many solos...some that he has to preform while playing basketball-Yikes!
I admire his talent and his confidence...were did both those traits come from?

7year old dd is in Brownies and plays basketball on a team with other 2nd grade girls (cute) she will start the city soccer club in March with her friends, everybody plays soccer around here and the city has built a wonderful park just for this!
She has cheerleading once a week which she loves, we just started this.

Hey Cuthie...You're not boring...You're perfectly normal!...When my kids were smaller, they didn't seem interested in doing much, yet we'd do our own family activities such as you do. I'm sure they'll still grow up to be perfectly "normal"...hee hee! I used to worry about that stuff...silly as it may seem now. I would say to myself, "Well, so and so's son does baseball, karate, horseback riding, tennis, and golf!"...I look back on it now and wonder why the kid always seemed so hyper and stressed out. It's different if the kid actually wants to do all of those things, but I think it was more my friend who wanted him to do them. I think that some parents get their kids involved in way too many activities and just don't let them have time to just be a kid...to play hide and seek, catch lightening bugs, and jump rope...or are those days gone now that we have the internet and video games? Sigh. ~Lisa

My kids are still little, DS is only in Kindergarten. He is starting baseball in the spring, he LOVES to play.

He has asked about Karate, but I don't think we could afford it or fit it into our schedule. (If anyone could offer some information about it, that would be great.)

When they are older I will allow them to do one sport per season, or a club, but not too much. You need to be well rounded, but not stressed, they'll get enough of that when they get older!

Basketball, Flag Football, Chess Team, Math Team, Soccer. It's way too much, and I can't stand driving around all the time, but the kids LOVE it! How can you say no, when they enjoy getting out and excercising! :O)

Check into your recreation department for karate. We do it through our town and it is very reasonable...this past season was only $23 for eight weeks.

my son is 10 he is involved in the following. ( some seasonal, some all year)

taekwondo
boy Scouts
basketball
baseball
soccer

My dd is 7 she is involved in the following. (some seasonal, some all year)

girl scouts
competitive cheerleading
tumbling
basketball
baseball
soccer

and we are about to start swim lessons again now that basketball is over...

Some nights I am ready to pull my hair out. BUT the kids really enjoy all the stuff they are in. As long as they keep their grades up, I'm okay with it all. My ds has been in the high honor for three yrs now. DD is just in 1st grade and they dont start the A-B-C-D grades till next year. But she is still doing good with all hers also...
