Waiting for DH to get home from work so we can go to HR Block and file ours. That is the money that is going to pay for our cruise and our new floors, so we're anxious to get it!

Ours was in our account at midnight. I've spent around $3,000 today! I paid off our one car and put almost $2000 on one of our credit cards. This year's tax return was our BIGGEST ever. We got $3904 back this year. Of course, it helps that the baby was born this year, too!

We are waiting on DH's W-2 also. We paid interest on one new mortgage since Feb., our old mortgage all year and interst on a HUGE home equity line for about 8 months. We paid a FORTUNE in interest, so we should get a nice return. We usually get back about $4000 total, so this year should be AWESOME! We need that money, so I hope we get the W-2 soon so we can file next week.

We don't have ours yet- it's supposed to be in our account Feb. 2. We already have it planned out on spending- big chunk to mortgage escrow shortage(thanks to our lovely insurance bill being $1000 more than last year), we decided we'd rather pay the shortage off with taxes instead of paying that extra $100 a month. Another big chunk is going to remodeling our bathroom and little bedroom from termite and water damage. DH gets $1000 for a kayak and I get $1000 for me and the kids extras.

Once I figure out for sure how to get it all filed (took a SIMPLE IRA distribution last year and they only withheld 10%, should be 25% and I don't think the online tax program is figuring it right since I didn't see the extra form listed at the end)... right now it says we're getting back almost $3k but I think it should be $400-500 less due to that. So, I tried figuring them before using the last paycheck instead of the W-2 and I *knew* I had to be doing something wrong because even after having another kid I was only seeing about $500 for a refund. Whew! Not planning on telling my husband I was wrong either so I'll be putting a few hundred in the bank account and the rest into the savings account that he doesn't want to know anything about (he's a spender).

Got our W2s. I used a free program to estamate what we will get back but DH wants to go see the tax man to file. Looks like we will get enough to almost pay off our tax debt from last year. This makes me very happy.

We haven't got our W2s yet either.

I'm terrible with numbers, and dh does a lot of stock trading, so dh does the taxes. It's not one of dh's favorite things to do so he'll probably put it of for months. One year he actually did the taxes in February, well it was the year before's taxes and that years taxes at the same time. LOL !

We got on line Saturday to file ours...we claimed sales tax, and as we were ready to hit "SUBMIT" it informed us that the IRS was waiting to process returns that included several things, one of which was sales tax! We have to wait until the 3rd for them to process it!...oh well, it is a difference of $200.00, to me, worth the wait.

FINALLY found a site that would let me do both of the extra forms I needed to file. I probably used 10 sites before finding this one, and they ALL had some snag or another preventing me from filing. It was http://www.express1040.com/ (linked from the IRS site) and was only $8.95 for both federal AND state tax returns. I don't have a state tax but that might be nice for some of you that don't qualify for the free filing.

Not sure what we're spending it on but I'm putting $1500 into my college fund, getting back just over $2100. Hope the "college" money stays there

We don't get enough back to be in any sort of rush. A few years ago, we lowered our withholding and itemizing doesn't help us (which is a GOOD thing!!!). We put money aside every payday so that it earns interest. Got $300 back last year... Waiting for a good deal on the tax software now.

I just finally got my W2 on Monday as well as our 1099. Still haven't received our mortgage interest statement yet, but luckily I can print out a substitute form online.

DH and I have owed every single year that we've been married (8 years) even though I have had extra money withheld from my paycheck and we both claim zero on our W4's. Everybody said that once we bought our house, that we would get a big refund. Not only did we not get a refund, we still owed money. Maybe because our interest rate is so low??? I also think DH's employer just doesn't take enough out of his paycheck because he makes just a little more than me and I always end up having more federal taxes withheld at the end of the year. I just quickly figured our taxes last night, and since we had our DD last year, we will finally be getting a refund!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Yes, we have low interest rate as well... be glad for it! It IS a good thing!!!

You can have him ask his employer to change his withholding... That should help to. We lowered our withholding a few years ago because we felt like we were getting too much back. I think that I posted this up above but in too much of a hurry to check right now.

It is not necessarily a goal to get a huge tax return unless you are unable to save during the rest of the year (as I have always heard it).

I might be wrong but we earn more interest by banking it then we do by giving too much to Uncle Sam so that he can earn interest on it???

That is what my mom always told me anyway.

I would love to change our withholding so we didn't get a refund, I wouldn't mind owing a hundred or two (but not more than that ). I can save, hubby has a bit of a spending problem, so while the savings account is in his name he doesn't know how to access it and doesn't WANT to

We started out taxes at the beginning of the month with the last check stub and we received the W-2 today so we went and finalized everything tonight. We should receive ours in 1-3 days.

did ours tonight with turbo tax. But nothing to jump about as all the money is already gone. We have to have our septic tank redone AGAIN ( just had it fixed with new field lines 2 years ago at the tune of 1100.00 ) and having 30 tress cut down, due to hurricanes and how high our dect is 1000.00 PLUS 1.5 wind damage. So thats the end to our refund this year .

I WANT A NEW STOVE !! , I swear mine has a demon inside it turns itself up if i even look away !!guess that will have to wait .

Have to hunt down all the W-2's and 1099s, copies of the paid medical bills, and buy the tax program. Hopefully will begin and end the taxes by this Sunday.

Hubby did them last night. He went through State Farm web site and did them for free. We should be getting the checks direct deposited by next week.

If you are a state farm customer, you can use turbo tax free, and efile free.
go to their site, www.statefarm.com, once you are registered, you will have to input your information into the site for home/auto/banking etc., it doesn't automatically pull up for security reasons. You have to input your policy number.

There is information on the front of SFs home page about it.

We did our taxes yesterday. Should have $5xx in the savings acct on Feb 16th.

DH wants $40 to go to the casino.

I want another key for my car (it only came with 1 key, and it is an anti-theft key = $$$) and to get the automatic lock/unlock looked at. That will be at least double the $40 that DH is going to get.

As for our son, we will probably stick a bit in his savings acct.

And whatever is leftover will go back into savings.

I just did ours as well.
We should be getting a nice refund.
I'm on hold waiting for one more 1099
But if it's what I expect it to be our refund should still be between 3k-4k
We are buying a used car.
Now that I work we really need a 2nd car in addition to my van that will hold all the kids and dh's work van only has one passenger seat. Don't even ask me where we're going to park it though! My garage is tiny (and full of crap!LOL) and the 2 vans sit in the driveway!

Got ours today! Spent a couple hundred already and DH has plans to spend some more, then paying off bills and hoping to have a few left to put in the bank to pay our state taxes in April.

I've got a question about withholdings. I was going to change mine, because we always get so much back at the end of the year. I would rather have the money "now" as opposed to that big check later. So, my question is......should I claim more dependants, or less dependants?? I can never figure this one out.

Remember, I want more in my weekly checks, and less at the end of the year - but of course I don't want to change it to the point where I owe. Does that make sense?

Post here, or email me at KinggyKong@charter.net. THANKS!!

By the way - we are still waiting for our 1099's, my W-2 and whatever else is coming. So, I haven't filed yet.
