Unhappy Ideas for famiily togetherness outside of the home??

DH works 6 days a week from 6:15 to 5 in the evening. We have ds who is 8 and ds who is 2.

I am looking for things to do as a family together that is fun but outside of the home. Since dh day off is Sunday and we have church in the morning and small group in the evening that leaves us the afternoon for togetherness.

If we stay home I know that we are going to fall into our normal habits dh does honey do;s, i am on the computer ds is down for nap and other ds is playing.

ANy ideas for things we can do out of the house during the cold weather season????

How about bowling or an indoor playground like Chuckie Cheese . At leaset the boys can vent their energy. Or maybe go to a fun movie and a casual bit to eat with a small playground area like McDonalds.

Do you have any museums or historical sites nearby? Even if they are a little "odd" Usually not too expensive, and if kids start going young, I think they learn to be comfortable and well behaved in such places. ITA with the above suggestions as well. If you bundle up, you could even go for a brisk walk.

That is our family time too...my husband is the Pastor of our church so Saturdays are spent putting the finishing touches on his teaching...other nights are busy with karate, gymnastics, prayer group, women's study etc...so Sunday afternoon is our time.

We find the same thing that if we go home, hubbie is watching football or NASCAR, I hang out with you all here , kids end up doing whatever!

We almost always start by going out for lunch...we have gone sledding, to the zoo (very interesting to see the animals in the winter), skating, a nature walk (we have a park that has a trail where the chickadees will eat out of your hand), bowling, museum, children's museum...we try hard not to spend too much money and hubbie hates places like Chuck E Cheese and McDonalds...many times just shopping...walking around the mall or Target...

I just remember those days being hard because the baby truly did *need* the nap as did we come evening time!... Is there someone that would be able to come and sit at the house while the little one is napping? I just know that it isn't fun to do family time away from home if baby is fussing for a nap. Maybe you could work out a trade with one of the other church families.

Lots of great suggestions above!

Geocaching....if you have a GPS or access to one.....go to www.geocaching.com and check it out.....fun for the whole family ~ although if you live in a snowy area, winter may not be the best to do this.

Children's museum, a place with those inflatable bouncy things.
