How old was your son when . . . ?

He was wearing 18M or 2T? I'm trying to shop for the upcoming Spring and Summer and wondering what size to buy? He is 7 months and already wearing a size 12M for nearly everything. Anyone else have experience or advice in this department? Thanks!

My ds was always big. He was wearing 24m/2T when he turned 1. When he was 2, he wore 3t and so on. My ds is now 8 and wears between a size 8 and 10/12. It just depends on the style. It's now hard to buy ahead for him.

My best friend is always telling me I buy my child's clothes too big. I have big kids, they grow fast, my 10 yr DS is a size14, not so tall but wide. I bought his jeans last autum they were too long......guess what they aren't now. *L* My boys were all big babies and I always bought everything a size larger than what they were wearing. Kids grow to fast to spend $$ on clothes that will not fit in 3 months.

The little guy I babysit for is 16 months and is wearing 18 months...he isn't overly big or small, a tad on the tall side I'd say.

If your son is wearing 12 months now, I'd buy 18 months for spring and summer. Seems to me there was quite a leap in size from 18m to 24m/2T. You aren't going to need the length in pants for summer and I bet he'll be swimming in 24m shorts...

My little guy who is now 5 wore 2T the summer when he was 3 turning 4....LOL He actually can still wear some of his 3T shorts and t-shirts but I gave them all away...there was no way he'd wear them again. He'll be 6 this June and is wears 4slim in pants...

MY other son wore 2T when he was 12/18months...Then slowed down with his growing and actually was in 2T for a VERY long time...2 summers he wore the same stuff...one yr a little big the next year they fit perfect!!

If I was you, I would probably be buying sz 18months...Also depending where you are...summer clothes here gets used more months of the year than up North

We live in MN, so summer temps are usually only June to August. He is a very slim baby (40% percentile for weight and 80% for height). His clothes are always too big for him although they fit lengthwise . . .

*sigh* I'd love to give input on this but, my youngest was 11 lbs 1 oz at birth!

And has grown like a weed since. DS #1 will be 9 in about a month and wears 36x30 jeans, mens small shirt and men sz 10 shoes. He's 5'5'' (what am I going to do when he hits ANOTHER growth spurt!? )

Oh MY! My almsot 13 yo DS is just about 5'1", 95 lbs. He wears 12 slim pants and XL in shirts (boys). He barely needs a size 5 shoe.

DS who is 9 wears an 8 slim, size 8/10 shirts and has a size 2 shoe! WOW! Your guy probably looks quite a bit older! Mine are shrimpy! LOL

If I were you I would buy 18 mos.

My son is big for his age. He just turned 1 last week and is wearing 18 months or 24 month clothing. The 18 months fit with absolutely no room. The 24 months fit with a little extra room in them.

My 22 month old is wearing 18M-24Months now. He's been pretty on target. I have found that if I buy clothes brand new, I can buy on target with his age, but if I buy used, they have shrank a bit and I have to buy the next size up.

My son was 10 lbs. 5 oz. at birth and had trouble fitting in the shirts in the hospital. His biggest growing was as a freshman when he grew 6 inches and two shoe sizes (11 to 13) in one year.

Have the same problem with my son!! He will be six next week...weighs a whopping 44lbs. He too can/does wear his 3T shorts, the shirts he finally outgrew because the got too short! Man was I glad to see them go! Pants are tough...he just had a growth spurt so he wears a 5 slim, for the length, but they are too big in the waist. The 4 slim fits him in the waist, but are too short...my daughter has the same problem, but on her we just call them crops or capris!!!

All my kids are small. My son is 4 and for length he needs a 4/5T. In the waist, he can still fit in 18/24months.

My oldest daughter is the same way. She will be 9 in three weeks and needs a 6x for length, but can still fit in a 4 for the waist.

Wish I had their metabolism!!

YES!! My ds will be 6 in June and STILL weighs under 40lbs (38lbs as of last week)...Pants 4 slim fit perfect around the waist but now are just a tad short in length...5 slim are just too big still...I can't wait til it starts warming up then at least he could be wearing shorts and length wont matter anymore!! Shirts he does wear a sz 5 for long sleeved shirts...he has long arms..(shhh I call him my monkey he has these long arms, VERY hair back for a small kid, and is always jumping around)

My Ds was 4lbs 9ozs when he was born at 32weeks and by the time he was 3months he was 15lbs wearing 12months .Now at 14 he wears a mens pants 32/32, he's 5'7 and wears a mens med shirt and size 10 1/2 shoes. It's hard to think that far ahead when their babies, but i think i would buy 18months or even 24months depends on what your buying sometimes you get summer clothes and use them in spring and the other way around .Good Luck

I think my 8 year old was a size ahead of his age when he was little. Now he's 8 and wears 8/10s. Some of his pants have those elastic strips in them to make them smaller around the waist and I had to pull them to the smallest setting, but he couldn't wear the pair of slims my mother gave me that my brother wore (glad, because my brother STILL looks anorexic and he's in his 20's)

It really varies by child and brand of clothing. OP, I think your child sounds like my oldest DS. He wore 18 months size when he was around 12 months and 2T when he was 18 months. By the time he was 2, he was wearing 3T. He is now 6 1/2, and probably around 50" tall and 60 lbs. and wearing a size 6, although he has some 5's that still fit. He is very tall and thin and needs a 7 or 8 pants for length. He can wear a size 5 shorts and the other day he had on a pair of size 4 PJ bottoms and they fit fine excpet for being way too short. I can't wait for it to get warm here so I don't have to worry about all his pants being too short or falling down!!!

My youngest DS is 3 1/2 and can still wear 2T. He was still wearing 6 months size when he turned 1. Now, however, he is tall and has a very long torso, so the 2T pants are too short, but are too big around the waist and the shirts are too short, but fit great otherwise -- could probably get away with them, but I think they look too short. He has some 18 & 24 months shorts that he wore at the end of last summer that I think will fit him again this year because he is so small around.

I wish someone would make affortable extra long pants for boy. I have a terrible time finding pants & jeans for both of my boys -- the regular sizes are either too short or falling down. The slims are getting easier to find, but for many stores, slims are on-line only and rarely on the clearance rack. Fortunately, we live in Georgia so the boys can wear shorts for 8 months of the year.
