you actually sound like you are in good shape. a couple months ago my husband had something go wrong in one of his wisdom teeth and the pain was MUCH worse, all he could do was alternately lie down or throw up he was so nauseated from the pain. and then on top of the antibiotics (which do take a couple days to take effect) they had him on extra strength painkillers which also made him vomit, so even after the pain subsided he was totalling nauseated from the pain meds for a full day after he stopped taking them. it started on friday and by monday we had him to the oral surgeon and they pulled the tooth, he was much better after that although he also developed a skin rash from the antibiotics which took another week to subside., just out of curiosity how do they treat your tooth without pulling it? |

I had some major pain from a wisdom tooth that was breaking, I lived with it for a YEAR because we didn't have dental insurance and knew we were getting it - still ended up paying for the majority of the $600-ish bill to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out. I did find that Ibuprofen took care of the pain pretty well, and worked fast, Tylenol took an hour or so to kick in! Tried Excedrin Migraine (had it on hand lol) and I took it for over a month straight and realized it was messing up my stomach.

I feel for you. Tooth aches are terrible. I have a tooth with an old filling in it right now that is cracked and it's been bothering me for several months. I have to go in to have work started on a crown in less than a week. I have insurance, but I know they won't cover much for a crown. I'm sure my out of pocket portion will amount to $500-$600. Oh well, at least I don't have to have another root canal. vorphalack, I had a wisdom tooth break too. I think that was pretty close to the worst pain I have ever had. I had had some pretty bad experiences with a couple of dentists, so I was scared to go until it was really, really bad. I had to go to an oral surgeon to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted too, but I was in so much pain just waiting for that day. My oral surgeon prescribed two different pain medications that both made me vomit, so then they had to prescribe a narcotic - and that's the only thing that took the pain away. Unfortunately, I couldn't function at all since the narcotic put me right to sleep. My oral surgeon ended up opening his office for me extra early one morning to perform emergency surgery because I couldn't make it until my regular appointment. |

I just wanted to say that I hope you are feeling better soon...There's nothing worse than a toothache...well, maybe an earache...and childbirth was certainly no picnic...Anyway, It sounds like you are in terrible pain...I hope something can be done to relieve it and that you're resting today...~Lisa

I can empathize with you. Hope the infection clears quickly so you can have the work done on your tooth. I was without dental insurance for a couple of years. I broke a molar, lived with that for a year. Eventually I started feeling miserable pain. I lived on Motrin for 2 wks until the proverbial root canal was initiated. I'm still waiting to get a crown on it, and was told I may possibly need to see an oral surgeon for the gum tissue surrounding the area. Gees. Thanks goodness I have insurance, but the misery of that pain is still fresh on my mind.
