Saving my files HELP

My hard drive crashed again. Of course, I had not backed up my files. I lost everything. Thankully the computer guy was able to save most of my pictures. Now I am wondering what I do with all of them in case this happens again. I don't understand backup since the folder remains on the hard drive, right?

Any and all suggestions would be so much appreciated. Tyler's whole life in pictures are on this computer and I would just be so sad if I lost them.

Thank you.

For the pictures and "stuff" I would suggest getting a burner so you can burn them to CD and then delete them off your computer or saving them to disc. This serves two purposes: if your computer crashes you have the pictures, documents, whatever on disc. And deleting that stuff, will free up memory and may make your computer run faster.

Currently we burn all our digital photos to disc, any of the documents that we create or scan in are burned to a disc (for example, we scan in our check stubs, then burn them to disc. Then delete them off the computer and destroy the paper copies...)

What program do you use? The one I have keeps telling me there's not enough space on my disk and I'm supposed to "guess" how many pictures to put on it. Ideas please, please, please.

I don't do much of this--I'll have to ask DH. I ask this evening when we get home from work and get the children to bed.

I agree about saving the pictures to a disc. You can also upload your pictures to Shutterfly. I know that with Shutterfly, you can upload and save an unlimited amount of pictures. It's also nice because you can share your pictures online with friends and family and they can order their own copies if they want them.

I purchased a 160GB external Hard drive. It's USB powered so its separate from the computer. I store all my pictures, music and documents on it. Its basically a drag & drop on to the new HD.

Hope this helps!
