What time do your CHILDREN go to bed??

Sort of a spinoff of the post about when you go to bed!! I like to see how late other kids are staying up....my oldest is always trying to stay up later but I know when its time to wake up he's a pain.

Both boys 5 and 8 usually are in bed at 8pm on a school night...once in awhile I'll let them stay up til 9 only to have them grumpy and hard to wake in the morning...(like the past 2 nights)

On weekends, I usually just let them stay up as late as they want, or until I go to bed. They are only home every other weekend. So thats like 4 nights a month they dont have a bedtime. My 8 yr old will stay up til about 11pm..My 5 yr old in bed by 9pm.. He rarely makes it to past 10pm, and he's super when he's tired he goes to bed. My older son will stay up even if he's tired!!

My DS(4) is in bed at 9. He's allowed to watch tv until 10 if he stays awake. I've been trying to cut that back by 5 minutes a week. Hoping to get to 9:30. Right now he doesn't have to get up too early but next year he starts pre-K so we'll have to be on a stricter schedule.

Deenbrad-- does your 4 year old nap during the day?

My 6 year old goes to bed at 8pm, and is usually out in 5 minutes-- he gets up at 7am. My 14 year old goes to bed at 9pm and she gets up at 6:30am.

Yes, he still naps at daycare. Typically 1 1/2 to 2 hours. So he does get between 10 & 11 hours of sleep. He's not normally up in the morning until around 7:30.

My kids go down for quiet reading time at 7:30 and it's time to sleep at 8:00. Early to rise at 6:30 though to get ready for the school bus at 7:30.

On weekends, the kids can stay up until somewhere between 8-8:30 and will usually sleep in until 7:30 or so.

DS is 7 and DD is 10

Dd goes to bed at 9 (she's 6.5). I think it should be earlier since she's a bear in the morning. Ds is a baby and goes to sleep whenever.

HI,

My two youngest 3 and 6 are in bed at 8:00 on weeknights, weekends up till closer to 9:30. The older two are 13 and 17 and they are usually up later then me (

One morning last week I got up at 3:30 to get ready for work only to find my 17 year old still up working on her homework for the second morning in a row...she is taking 3 college classes along with her high school work and the homework was really piled high last week so ....no sleep for her (

My DS 9 & DD 8 are both up til about 9 on school nights. They usually watch TV til 9:30 or so. They get up at 7 for school and I have no problems getting them up so I don't make them go to bed any earlier. Weekends they can stay up as late as they want. Then they sleep later.

My oldest DS is 17 and he goes to bed whenever he feels like it. He's old enough to know how much sleep he needs and when he needs to be up so he decides on his own. I'd say it seems he's up til 11 or so on school nights and who knows how late on the weekends.

5 and 8 year old are in bed by 8, though last night I think they went to bed pretty early, I guess misbehaving at the dr's office wore them out. My baby sleeps on and off all day and night.

I like for my 12 year old daughter to start winding down at 7:30 and in bed no later than 8:30. Every year since kindergarten she has been in bed by 8pm BUT this year the workload often calls for her to have to be up later. She get s up at 6:45am.
Waldorf has a great theory regarding sleep that I really believe in.

Mine (3, 2, and 1) all go to bed at 7 sharp! They usually wake up between 6:45-7:15 and take an hour and a half nap during the day.

My 6 and 4 yr old dd's are in bed by 7 no later than 7:30 during the week and up at 6:45. Neither take a nap and they are able to stay up later on Friday nights because they can sleep in on Sat. I have noticed when we have to be out and they don't get to bed by 7:30 they are cranky little crabs the next day.

My 12 YO (13 next month) goes to bed by 9:30 (if she's not piled with homework) and is up at 6AM.

My 10 YO we try to get in bed as close to 9PM as possible, but she is allowed to read until 9:30. She gets up at 7:15AM..

We had them going to bed a little later than that but, for their very active bodies they weren't resting enough so we brought the bedtimes earlier and its working out great!!

I have a 5.5 and 7.5 year old
Both go to bed at 8:00 pm on school nights and 9:00 pm on weekends. Both get up *naturally* at 7:00 am. My oldest is allowed to read in bed til 9:00 on school nights if he chooses. He has to get in 460 minutes of reading a month so to tempt him to stay up to read works out well

I try to get DD (5) and DS (4) in bed by 7:30, 8:00 at the latest, I get them up by 6:45 for school. I could put them earlier, but they just talk and they aren't tired at all. They are getting better at getting up without a fight with me. They both get about 1.5hr nap at school as well.

We put Naysa to bed around 8. She JUST makes it most nights. We usually have to fight w/her to stay awake, she's only six months, though.

My 4 1/2 year old goes shortly after her. We make her go back to her room when Naysa goes to bed. She watches TV until she falls asleep, which usually isn't long after she hits the bed.

My almost 13 year old goes at 10:30 on a school night. She's allowed to stay up till midnight on weekends or when she doesn't have school. She usually goes before then, though.

Edited to add:

My 4 year old does NOT take naps during the day. She stopped taking them years ago. She gets up anywhere from 6-8. In the summer she was getting up around 5. I had to make her go back to bed.

The baby has been waking up around 6. She used to sleep until 8, but not anymore. She doesn't sleep well/much during the day, either. Today she got up around 6:30 and slept for 10 minutes the first nap and almost an hour this last time. ARGH!

3 year old - 8pm (up at 7ish, no nap)
8 year old - in bed at 8, read 'til 8:30 then lights out (up at 7)
13 year old - 10pm (up at 6:30)

Me - I could use a nap right about now!

Both of our boys (almost 13 & 15) have to be in their rooms at 10:00. Youngest usually falls asleep right after but, oldest is a whole other story! There are times I'll get up at 1-2 and he's still up. He has a very hard time getting to sleep and we've consulted a Dr about it. He said he wasn't worried about it, as some people just don't require that much sleep. A normal night he'll get about 4-5 hours in (going to bed at 1 and getting up at 6)

If it was me, they'd all be running!!! I need my sleep!

I like for them to start getting ready at 7(snacks, book, brush teeth etc) and then my 6 year old is in bed and usually asleep by 8. My son(10) TRIES to stay up as long as he can--using every tactic he can think of but I insist he be in bed by 9. He needs his sleep(very crabby in the morning). Prevention Magazine had this article a couple of months ago(I cut it out to save for son): children ages 2 mos-1year 14-15 hours, 1-3 years need 12-14 hours, kids 3-6 years 11-13 hours, 6-12 years need 10-11 hours, 12-18 years old need 8 1/2 -9 1/2 hours a night.

On school nights, both of our boys (ages 9 and 12) get ready for bed at 8:00
Lights out for 9yo at 8:30 - we read him a story
Lights out for 12 yo at 8:45 - he can read and listen to music after he is ready for bed

We wake them both up at 6:15.

On weekends, they can stay up until 9PM and youngest usually gets up by 7AM and oldest gets up at 8AM. They get up on their own on weekends but we don't generally let the oldest sleep much later than that because he gets too grumpy...

DH wakes up at 3am to get ready for work, and I am a bear without at least 8 hours of sleep a night.

Our son is in bed at 8pm most every night. He can watch tv (he has a tv in his room) until 8:30pm, or on weekends, 9pm. Weeknight tv exceptions can be made if he asks first.

I have had a few problems, years ago, with the tv in his room. He is like me though : when he gets tired, even if it is not 8:30pm - the tv goes off. I am so proud that he does not abuse the tv and is mature enough (he is 10 and has had the tv in his room, with expanded basic cable, for almost 4 years) to handle the tv.

Well, my almost 7 yr old boy/girl twins (7 on Valentine's Day!) go to bed at 7:30 sharp! They may stay up till 8:30 on weekends. They get up at 6:15 am for school.

My 11 1/2 yr old son (6th grade) goes to bed at 10, and is up at 7:15 for school. He usually stays up till 10:30 or maybe 11 on weekends.

These are good bedtimes for us because (1) nobody ever acts cranky (due to lack of sleep!) and (2) for the twins, although 7:30 might seem early, although they might complain about bedtime, they are always asleep within minutes when they go to bed. They are exhausted from a rigorous day at school.

I feel for our kids, all of them. They really have it tougher now, in school, than any of us ever did.

My DD (who just turned 14 last week) goes to bed at 10:00 on school nights (she gets up at 6AM on school days) and whenever she wants to on the weekends. My DS (who's 4) goes to bed at 8:00 on school (preschool) nights (he gets up at 7AM on school mornings) and stays up until around 9:00 on weekends. He isn't really napping anymore (though he may catch a cat nap while going to pick his sister up from school) so he is usually ready for bed by 8PM!

Wow! My two little ones (2 1/2 and 1) are in bed b/w 6:30 and 7 every night unless there is something special going on. They demand sleep. Both take naps still as well.

I can say as a teacher this is one thing I see kids struggle with every day is a lack of sleep. I have 6 & 7 years old that go to bed later than 10 and are always falling asleep in class. I know I can't function without sleep. These poor babies are know for sure can't.

OK I feel like a really really bad Mom...I am still fighting with my son and guess what time it is....11:49. Let's see he just threw all his shoes at me and is currently screaming.Remind me not to buy him so many shoes. My oldest son 11 goes at 9:00 or 9:30 my youngest 6 goes to bed like an angel at 8:30. She is so good she goes upstairs puts on her PJs and calls to me and says "Come Tuck Me". It's my middle son that just doesn't like the bed. This is my son with Aspergers. I have to say when he is doing well(behaviors and other emotional things) He goes to bed at 9:00 or 9:30.

I remember the days when my kids were little and they were all in bed by 7:00 and asleep by 7:15. My goodness what have I created.

my daughter who is 21 months goes to bed between 12 midnight and 2 am. She wakes up between 10am and noon. We work later schedules, and this works well for us. She takes 1 nap around 2pm for 3-4 hours.

Thats sort of why I asked the question...This is the first year the kids stay up past 8pm on a school night, used to be 7-7:30pm bedtime....So many other people let their kids stay up really late!! Sleep is important and I want the kids to get the sleep they need

My 14 and 15 yr olds go o bed at 9, but it is usally 10 before they are settled and asleep. Both are up at 6:30. My disabled 17yr old goes to bed at 8 and gets up at 7am, she NEEDS the sleep and is very cranky without it.

12 & 13 DDs are in bed by about 9pm and up around 6:10am. Usually they are asleep within 15 mins of going to bed. There are a few night when they go to bed a little later if something is going on. The weekends...basically it is their call. If they are cranky or we need up early we'll send them to bed early. DH and I are in bed right after tucking them in on week nights
