| Can someone please tell me...is there a way to block a website?
My dd has a myspace that I monitor, but now she told me she has a profile at something called facebox. I really didn't like the look of the site and would like to be able to block it from our computer so that she can't access it. Is that possible? Thanks!

Could it be Facebook? http://www.facebook.com is where my kids have theirs too. I can't get to the other site you are talking about because work at an elem school and we are heavily filtered, but it sounds like you just might have the name confused.

Thanks, but no, it's facebox. I had told her she could have one at facebook.com because it was recommended in one of our college books, but a friend of hers had this facebox and she decided to sign up there without asking and I'm just leery of the site.

| I'm currently using Safeyes software. I've tried others and it's the best so far. You can install it on up to three computers. Not only can you block certain sites, you can also monitor their usage, block keywords and category you specify and limit time on the computer. I wish I had installed this years ago and headed off problems at the path .

I was curious and clicked on to see what facebox was. If it were my daughter I would tell her absolutely not!! Just by amking 2 innocent clicks I saw a few id photos that boardered on porn and the comments that were left on one blog made me not blush but sick to my stomach. Take the above posters recommendation and get the blocker. I wish that the internet would just let you block things that you did not want and did not charge a fee. I love the internet but at the same time I cannot stand it especially for young people out there.

QUOTE] Can you share this program with us? I am not worried about my daughter but would like to know what other people in this house are up to sometimes!!!!

It hides on your pc and you have to hit certain keystrokes to call it up and type in a password you can create your own... my pest partol detected it once and when I clean up the pest it removed the program and I had to re-installed..Remeber to burn a copy that way if you have to re-install it you will be able too...My dh burned a copy of it I can't remember how he did it but I can asked him if you will like me too .. I have caught my ds looking at porn in the wee hours of the morning when everyone was sleeping ..The last time he got into trouble I took the pc away for 2 months..I know boys will be boys but I have a no porn rule in my house besides that those places put all kinds of stuff on your pc..

There are alterations you can make to your computer that will block sites, but it's pretty geeky, so I'd say it's best left alone. There is a lot of software out there, but I'm not sure what's reputable.

We use $40 download from www.cybersitter.com (similar to Net Nanny) and yes, you can block or allow certain sites with this software.

| www.afafilter.com I se American Family filter. I've used it for about 3 years now. It has definatley improved over the years. Now you have many options to choose from. It's about $50 a year. |
