Can someone please tell me...is there a way to block a website?

My dd has a myspace that I monitor, but now she told me she has a profile at something called facebox. I really didn't like the look of the site and would like to be able to block it from our computer so that she can't access it. Is that possible? Thanks!

Could it be Facebook? http://www.facebook.com is where my kids have theirs too. I can't get to the other site you are talking about because work at an elem school and we are heavily filtered, but it sounds like you just might have the name confused.

Thanks, but no, it's facebox. I had told her she could have one at facebook.com because it was recommended in one of our college books, but a friend of hers had this facebox and she decided to sign up there without asking and I'm just leery of the site.

I'm currently using Safeyes software. I've tried others and it's the best so far. You can install it on up to three computers. Not only can you block certain sites, you can also monitor their usage, block keywords and category you specify and limit time on the computer.

I wish I had installed this years ago and headed off problems at the path .

Facebox looks to be for Europe as I see mostly UK. I don't like the fact you don't even need to sign in you can just poke all over the place.

I was curious and clicked on to see what facebox was.
If it were my daughter I would tell her absolutely not!!
Just by amking 2 innocent clicks I saw a few id photos that boardered on porn and the comments that were left on one blog made me not blush but sick to my stomach.

Take the above posters recommendation and get the blocker. I wish that the internet would just let you block things that you did not want and did not charge a fee.
I love the internet but at the same time I cannot stand it especially for young people out there.

I think you can block it with your firewall but I'm not 100 percent sure on how to do it

By the way, If you are ever concern on what your kids are doing online or wonder if they are playing it safe..There is a programs out there that you can easily install and it will record everything that the users do online or offline...It will takes pictures of the website, record websites history and every keystroke that is type in also it record all the chats...Doesn't matter if the user clear history it will still keep everything they do..

Every since my kids went online I have had this program installed..I know some people may not approve of it but I rather be safe than sorry!!! There are alot pervents just waiting to lure kids in you hear it about every day...In the past 7 years my kids had 2 people that I believe targeted my kids..I had all the rules in place and my kids still broke my rules..When I caught them breaking the rules they had pc privelages yanked in 1 month increments.

My pc are set up right next to each other so you figure nothing will happen your kids will play by the rules sitting right next to you,,,,Nope....My ds was talking to a complete stranger and within 5 min of talking to her(which I don't believe was a her to begin with ) sent a picture of a girl in her bra and undies And when my ds asked why she sent that she stated I thought you wouild like it & etc She was asking all personal qustions.... I asked my ds who was he talking to and he outright lied to me...I called up the program and found out what he was doing ..The next day she instant message him and I type in telling her I called the police and warned her never to contact my son again! I have everything montiored and have recorded everything in their chat.

I don't check on them everyday I want to give them their privacy...But when I suspect something is going on I look and have the peace of mind..Kids are smart when it comes to a pc they know all the tricks to quickly minus a screen and clear all their tracks..

I'm sorry I wished there was a way I could share it with you.....It is called Spector ..I believe I have Spector Pro Here is the link http://www.spector.com/

It hides on your pc and you have to hit certain keystrokes to call it up and type in a password you can create your own... my pest partol detected it once and when I clean up the pest it removed the program and I had to re-installed..Remeber to burn a copy that way if you have to re-install it you will be able too...My dh burned a copy of it I can't remember how he did it but I can asked him if you will like me too ..

I have caught my ds looking at porn in the wee hours of the morning when everyone was sleeping ..The last time he got into trouble I took the pc away for 2 months..I know boys will be boys but I have a no porn rule in my house besides that those places put all kinds of stuff on your pc..

There are alterations you can make to your computer that will block sites, but it's pretty geeky, so I'd say it's best left alone. There is a lot of software out there, but I'm not sure what's reputable.

We use $40 download from www.cybersitter.com (similar to Net Nanny) and yes, you can block or allow certain sites with this software.

I se American Family filter. I've used it for about 3 years now. It has definatley improved over the years. Now you have many options to choose from. It's about $50 a year.
