What do you give to or do for your kids for Valentine's Day?

I usually give them some candy or something small like that...

Do you buy or make them big gifts, small gifts, and/or do something special for them???

Thanks for sharing.

When they were little I used to buy them a candy heart filled with chocolate each, now that they are older, I buy decent chocolate and just buy one HUGE one for the family.

I do send DD in college her own..... :-)

I usually give them each a card, a small stuffed animal or a doll for DD, and some candy. I never spend much, but they love to get any treat on Valentine's Day. I end up spending much more money and time on their Easter baskets.

Some sort of chocolate, the last 3 yrs. it's been a chocolate rose the middle school sells for $1.
I'd love to give my opinion about sending balloons, stuffed animals and candy to the school. However, we're to be noncontroversial here.

I'm giving...
DS (15) a card to Starbucks...
DD (13) this huge cute dog with a pink rose in it's mouth that she fell in love with in Kroger
DS (10) a few packs of Naruto cards.
Still debating whether or not to get them cards...probably not. I like them, but really think they could care less. ~Lisa

My 2 daughters are almost 13 & 10. They each get a card and a small box of chocolate or a small stuffed animal or something similar. Nothing big or expensive, just a little something to make them feel special.

I don't have any children, but I can remember my mom always giving me something for Valentine's Day. It was usually a valentine's mug with some candy and a little gift. It always made me feel extra special because I got something. She always left for work before I got up, so I would find it waiting for me when I would go in the kitchen before school.

I got each of my kids one of those heart shaped boxes of chocolate. Oldest dd got one of those "Hex my Ex" dolls from Target...lol She's almost 16 and her exboyfriend is a dingbat so I thought she would get a good laugh out of it.
Ds is getting a couple hot wheel cars, that's what he's into right now and youngest dd is getting a cute stuffed puppy.
I'm going to go to the Dollar Store and get them each a balloon while they're in school. That way they all have a little suprise when they get home.

LOL same here.
They will exchange Valentines at school though.
Me and hubby will not give one another gifts this year. He knows I love him and I know he loves me. That'll do for us.

My DDs are 12 and 13 and LOVE their B-A-B frog and monkey, so I am getting them each an outfit for them. I happen to have $30 in g.c from there so it won't cost me much. I will probably get them a small box of chocolates also.
BUT my favorite gift to them this year...they have dentist appts on Valentine's Day!! LOL

I have wonder about that. When I was in High School boyfriends and girlfriends sent stuff to each other. Now it seems like most of the flowers and stuff are from parents. My Ds is in Elementary school and over half of them get flowers and stuff sent to them at school. My DD who is in High School say a lot of kids get stuff sent to them from parents also. I would had died from embarrassment if my parents had sent me flowers to school on Valentine's . Maybe this is a new trend that I have not caught on to. My DS 10 and DD 14 are getting a new hamster on the 14. Their hamster that we have had for a long time died last week . My son has a dentist appt on the 14th and I told them we would get them a new hamster while we are in town.

Too Funny, but I too have a dentist appt on Valentines day!

I was going to get my kids a heart shaped chocolate each, but scratch that, Grandma gave them each one today. So I guess I am going to give them each some money in a card. (a dollar or two is all they need and they LOVE to get cards!)

I have four grown sons. When they were little it was a small box of chocolates. ( Wally worl has inexpensive little boxes of them around $1). Now I usually send the ones in college an email and the others a phone call. I've never gone really commercial, just a token " I love you" for Valentines Day. I used to love the cards they made for me in school. If they took the time to make something for ME, then I should let them know that I remembered them on VD too.

I never got my kids anything. They took Valentines to school. When I was a kid, we would draw big hearts and tape coins to it. We gave them to our teacher (a nun) and she would send the money to a mission. Some parents go over board on things. The last couple of years some parents sent their kids their kids in limos to the 8th grade graduation dance.

I make home made cards and place them at their spot at breakfast - I will be making my hubby a batch of his favorite cookies - M&M - and a choc cake for dessert for my 4 children - my husband will bring each of the girls a rose and a little something for the boys - baseball cards and a gas card for the 19 year old.

My kids are 7 and 13. I give them each a small stuffed animal, and will continue until 13 yr. ds says "stop, I'm too old" (sad) The 7 year old dd is a girlie girl so I forsee giving her stuffed animals for a long time (yeah!) Then a coupla' small gifts...dd will get a cute purse and a diary, ds will get a new red binder for school and a little candy for both. I will make a little fancier breakfast, make their milk pink/red, maybe berries on pancakes. We will have something valentine-ish for dinner and I'll make a cake with pink icing. I love all holidays and feel like time is flying by with my kids being young and I want to soak up every opportunity.....
I figure I've got one more Santa year and one more Easter bunny year that my dd still belives. (again, sad)

I always got a gift for v-day when I was growing up. DS is getting a book on drawing dragons and a bunch of candy. DH is getting some CD's and a bunch of candy. It's also our anniversary and we're going away for the weekend for that. Oh and I got the requisite lacey uniform-o-the-day....

My girls are 7 and 5.....I'm planning on just going to the dollar store and making up small gift baskets for them. I will get one item for both of them, a Cinderella III dvd. (on that thought....I don't think I've ever seen Cinderella 2......is there one? ) My parents are sending each girl a card and $5. I'll also get my doggie something (she's my kid too...albeit furry and with four legs!), she loves getting new toys!

I need help. I have to take my son to the store today and buy healthy snacks because the school policy is eatig healthy and candy is not going to be accepted. I thought I was going to get the easy way out with buying the valentine cards that come with lolly pops, but I guess not and I agree with healthy. However, I am totally clueless I need ideas for a snack that most of the kids if not all would enjoy??? I am preparing goodie bags with my son tonight is out project.

Speaking of healthy eating, my son is sending fruit roll-ups with his valentines. Wal-Mart has boxes of 20 for $3.88 and the packages have hearts on them. I found ours on the same aisle as the Valentine candy. Or you may could get some other type of character fruit snacks. It still has sugar in it but would fit into healthy eating better than candy.

Since my daughter does not eat candy I always get her something. I know that since we just redid her bathroom in a rubber duck theme I have gotten her "love ducks" from Party City. She also loves socks so I will get her a pair of fun Valentines socks. I know that I got a few more trinkets, but I do not know where I put them. I like to put them on her breakfast tray.

Good for your school!!!!
The 100 calorie packs are a big hit at my daughters school along with the Special K breakfast bars.
Also, you cannot go wrong with apples.

Individual snack size bags of pretzels or animal crackers and maybe glue/tape the valentine card to the front of the bag? Or the healthier granola bar or nutri grain bar varieties.

They sell big packs of all of these really cheaply at Sams and they're lightweight so not hard for the kids to haul to school and hand out.

We decorate the house, bake Valentine's cookies, and I give him a little present. Something simple and cheap! It's very important for me to celebrate the holidays with my kids. My Mom did it for us and I cherished it. It's the little things that make you happy

My dd is feeling sad this year because she doesn't have a boyfriend and all her friends do, so she is getting a little extra from us. She lost her watch so dh bought her a new one and I had gotten her a Fossil change purse with hearts and put an Itunes card in it.

My opinion on sending gifts to the school - I was a teacher at a private school in Maryland for 7 years and never once did a child receive anything for a holiday or birthday delivered to the school. When we moved to Missouri 4 years ago, I worked in the office of a private school and was amazed that all these gifts would be delivered every holiday and every birthday. I had never even considered such a thing. But, because of my dd feeling left out, I went ahead and started sending something too. When she went into the public high school, I thought that would be the end of it...wrong! ... its even more important there. So every year (shes a junior now) I have sent her a flower from a "secret admirer"..she has fun with it.

Nothing for kids anynore but my 3 grandaughters is another story. The cost wasn't very much, I got stuff last year after the 15th for this year.. All 3 will get a stuff animal, a heart shape box that I filled with candy (new), a book ( a must for every occasion), a heart shape pink fuzzy pillow. All will get the new Flicka dvd to share. Their books are all differant because of the ages, but everything else is the same.

When my second son was here a couple of months ago I let him see what I was giving them with a "now don't plan on returning my gifts I give to Bella I buy when it is 90% off for most stuff, a year ahead of time." They are expecting 1st baby, my 4th granddaughter next month.

I forgot, we give money for the college fund, can never start to early for that.

I made home made Valentine cards for DH and my 4 kids. For the 3 girls, I am going to get them one of their favorite magazines and a lip gloss or something like that. My DS is so easy, ice fishing stuff or something little like that. A small amount of candy and call it good!!

We did something similiar at the elementary school my girls went to as a PTA, but we first gave one to every kid in the school. On Valentine's we made little bags with shredded pink/red/white paper and put in a few Hershey kisses and for Christmas time we did candy canes. Kids could buy them for their friends and parents could come in to do it too. We had a great time, but made sure everyone was included.
At my girls' middle school they are selling two different sizes of heart, lips or ?? shaped sucker. I tried to go buy for my girls during the day and nobody had a clue how to do it. The school even called me back and said I would have to sneak in when I dropped off my girls and go buy them. Ya Right!! Luckily a neighbor friend of the girls' is going to do it for me Also on V-Day the choir sings during lunch and takes request/dedications. I am trying to get in on that one too.
