Anyone had the flu and how long does it last?

Hi! I have been sick with the flu since last Tuesday and was wondering how long this has lasted for others who have had it? Also, what did you doctor give you to treat it?

My doctor gave me antibiotics, Tamiflu, and a decongestant. I feel better except for the fact that I am still very weak. Yesterday, I felt better and went to Walmart to pick up a few things, and by the time I got back home I felt so weak that I went to bed and stayed there until this morning. I don't know about anyone else, but you can bet that I will be the first one in line for a flu shot next year!!!!

I've only actually had the flu once and it was a few years ago. I was really sick for about two weeks, but it took about one month for me to get completely back to normal (not feeling weak and fatigued). I went to the doctor three times over two weeks and they gave me antibiotic shots and almost wouldn't let me drive home because my fever was so high and I was so dehydrated. The only reason they let me go was because I didn't have anyone to come get me at the time and I just lived right around the corner. Actually, the third time I went to the doctor, I had to have someone from work take me because I knew I couldn't drive myself and DH couldn't take time off.

Hope it doesn't take you as long to recover as it did for me and I hope you feel better soon.

I hope you feel better soon...The flu can last between 7 to 10 days....If your not feeling better in acouple days I would go back to the doctor.. Have you been drinking plenty fluids to keep well hydrated? You might be alittle dehyrdrated..

The last time I had the flu it was 7 years ago...DD & myself didn't get the flu shot this year ..DD just got over the flu..and I manged to escape it...I flip out when someone is sick.. I make it a habit of washing my hands often , not touching my eyes , nose or mouth when someone is sick around me ..So far this little trick works like a charm..

I'm betting you have something else going on besides the Flu.

Flu is a viral agent/illness and antibiotics are not commonly used to treat virals. So, I would bet that the Dr. suspected that you might have or develop some sort of infection.

The Flu can last 7-10 days, but the your body may take longer to "bounce" back, depending on what strain of flu you had, if you did have any sort of secondary infections.

3 years ago, right after we moved. Both kids and DH came down w/ the flu. We didn't even get our boxes unpacked before they were all sick as dogs. And oldest kid also had double ear infections and strep throat ON TOP of the flu. He was one sick little kidlet for a while.
Amazingly, I managed to escape the whole thing and didn't even get a cold.

I was sick for about 10 - 14 days. My doc scolded me for not coming in and getting drugs (I didn't know I could) and said that with my diabetes I would take longer to recover.

My dd has had the flu since early Friday morning, she said she didn't feel good Thurs night. She has had a fever the whole time, today the highest it got was 101. She had the vomiting for a good 18hours, now it is just the fever still with a nasty nose and a cough every once in a while. I just can't believe how long the fever has lasted. We went to the dr on Monday and she said it would prob. last 6 days.

The flu....yes we know him at our house right now. I starting feeling bad a week ago and spent most of last weekend in the bed. I made myself go to work Monday but really wanted to be in bed. On Monday evening when I picked up my son I could tell he felt bad. We went to school Tuesday but got sent home due to fever of 102. Took him to doctor on Wednesday morning...they did a flu test and a strep test. I didn't know they had a flu test. He tested positive for both.

I had the flu shot so maybe mine isn't as bad as it could be. I am still experiencing fatique.

Son started tamiflu hoping we got it started before the 48 hour mark.
+ His fever broke during the night last night and he seems alot better today although he hasn't eaten much since Saturday. I always miss the clue of "not eating' when he starts to get ill. Trying to keep him hydrated.

Hope you feel better soon. Don't just suffer treat your symptons.

I don't think I had the flu this week. I think I just have a cold. been in bed for three days. Started antibiotic and feel a little better today. Still got a cough and little to no voice.

how do you know the difference between a cold and the flu?
