Vacationing without the kids..

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone here has gone on vacation without the kiddos? I'd love to go on a week long cruise just dh and I. The only hesitation I have is leaving the kids behind. His parents might be able to watch them, but my mil is a pretty brisk person and my daughter and she rub each other the wrong way sometimes. DD is 7 and DS is 11. UGH, the guilt!!!!! Any words of wisdom out there??

No words of wisdom here! I am angonizing over the same decision!!

My husband just invited me to go on a business trip with him in April. It would be over the kids Spring Break so finding someone to watch them shouldn't be too hard. BUT! as much as I would love to go away with him, and I know we need to do that...we NEVER have! The thought of leaving them for four whole days is killing me! And during their spring break too! Ouch!

Deep down I know they'd be fine...actually probably enjoy themselves...we've gone away separately before, just never together...they are fine when my hubby is gone, they HATE when I am gone. I've gone away twice in 10 years and have gotten grief both times I returned! "you were gone so long!!!", "Never go away again!!"...

Anybody with words of wisdom!!???

GO!
I've only really gone anywhere for a couple of days at a time but it's great! Once was down to Miami with my husband on a business trip, stayed in a pretty nice hotel and got to visit friends on the way back (we drove). MIL was staying at our house and watched our kids. They were oh, something like 1 and 3? 2 and 4?

GO!

I think your daughter is old enough to talk to about it, explain you want/need to go and she needs to cooperate with her grandmother and that it's only for a few days.

And if you don't think that will work... can she busy herself with games? Maybe a gameboy and a few games so she can quietly play by herself?

My husband and I went to France a few years ago. My mom stayed with them and they had a blast. I think my son was 6 and my daughter 9 at the time. Go and have a great time.

we leave the kids one a year for 1 week to 1.5 weeks with my in-laws while we go on vacation ourselves. the kids LOVE it! They get to do things we normally wouldn't do (like go to the rodeo). Our kids can't wait (they are 5 & 7) for their trip this year. We also try to leave them with my parents 1 week every year as well. We *try* to have 2 weeks to ourselves to renew our marriage. I can't recommend it enough. I think people forget what it's like just to be a couple, without the kids. It really brings us closer

Go! It will be good for your marriage and the kids will probably have a ball.
