Trying to decide how to state this!

Do you use a professional sizer in a department store to buy bras? I have been blessed ( I say this tongue in cheek)with big boobs. I am too embarassed to use one even though anyone who shops at better department stores or small shops has been told the best piece of clothing to buy is a good fitting bra.
It is very difficult to buy swimsuits, tops, etc. If I get an XL, the shoulders sag and it is baggy in the waist area. A swimsuit is big if I match sizes with my top and "over flowing" if I buy a size 12 bottom. This began in highschool when the girls in gym would tell me they wanted my chest size. I was a 34C and about 115 lbs.

I have never used one either. I have not been blessed in the bra department. I have to order mine online or go to target to get them. Not many stores stock a 32A in the adult department (and I refuse to look in the kids section).

I was also blessed, I used to wear a 40DDD before getting a reduction, now I wear a 38D.

I am so happy I got a reduction, I feel so much better!!

But before I did, I got measured by a professional, I believe it was at Macy's. But I believe Filene's and Penney's also do it.

I was wearing the wrong size and it showed, with wearing the correct size it made a big difference.

I hated having her do it, but it was a great decision - I was wearing the wrong size - just as Oprah said!!! I used one in Norstroms and then again in Dillards. They both said the same thing and I really like the new bras I bought. There were really expensive, but they fit so much nicer.

I even took my daughter in. She's only a 32B, but had been wearing the starter bras and I wanted her to have the correct size.

I was measured once at Victoria's Secret. I'm really glad I did it because I always thought I was an A cup and she told me I was a C!! I didn't believe her at first but, sure enough, the C cup fit. At first I thought it was just their sizing but it held true at other stores as well.

Take advantage of this service!!!
That is what they are there for and it is wonderful especially when a department store has a fitting event.

I think everyone should have this done. One of my girlfriends whom said she wore the same size bra as me (I'm a 34C) and she is way bigger than me....I talked her into going to VS for a bra fitting and sure enough, she was in the wrong bra size she was a 36DD....and what a difference it made, with the right bra she looked 10lbs smaller and her clothes looked so much better

I have had a bra fitting and sometimes the results are so disappointing. I had a girl who left the fitting room partway open. She acted surprised when I took my top off and she could barely put the tape around me she was trying so hard to not touch my body. She did it fast, told me the numbers and got out of there so fast I barely had time to put my top on. Needless to say it was wrong.

Basically I know about the ritght size and I just try different brands and sizes until I get it right.

Angel38, thanks for great links!

I think I need to get to a better dept store to have this done in an actual lingerie dept. I am about a 44C but for years I wore a DD and it was so uncomfortable. I was once told that was the size and I stuck with it because no other one seemed any better.

I don't like Victoria's Secret they don't make bigger bras but I sure would like to know where you guys have gotten a really good fitting.

i wear a 32D so i know the feeling of having a top that doest match the bottom PLUS a cup and band size that almost never go together

i hate bra shopping. fitters have given me sizes all over the place, so i dont put much stock in them.

got a pro fitting and it was a world of difference. I had been wearing a 34C since high school as well (I can relate to your story OP). Found out I should be a 36D. Ah, much better I like some of Victoria's Secret bras (I think D is the biggest size they carry) but I also really like one style of bra at Cacique (the Lane Bryant line). Hate most of them but love one. I get them on the buy one get one 50% off sales

What happens at a fitting? Are you topless or do you wear a regular bra?

I went to a speciality bra shop with a group of friends last fall and had a fitting. This is something I would have NEVER done by myself (although I have since gone back to the same shop by myself). Let me tell you, it was a fantastic experience and one that I now recommend to others. I will be going back again next week to purchase swim wear.

A good, well fitting bra will make you look slimmer, eliminate 'back fat', be more comfortable and for me took away some mild back pain I was having. Your tops will fit and look much better! I was wearing a 36C and now a 32DD. I never liked underwires because they were so uncomfortable, well, guess what -- if you wear the right size, they are very comfortable. The lady at the store said most women are wearing a band size that is too big and a cup size that is too small. Honestly, when the lady told me I was a 'DD', I was horrified, but the fit is great and now I don't worry about it.

The place I went to didn't use tape measures. They have been professionally trained and have been fitting bras for many years and can tell the right size just by looking. I admit, I was skeptical about this, but it worked. This store imports a lot of bras from Europe. These bras come in a more extended size range and are also better quality. Their prices are comparable to the major department stores and upper end on-line retailers. This store will do alterations and restore any bra you buy from them when it gets streatched out, so you can wear it longer.

If you have the opportunity to have a bra fitting, don't pass it up. But, make sure it's by someone who has been professionally trained.

At the fitting I went to, I started out wearing my regular bra. The lady showed me how it wasn't fitting correctly. Then she brought me some new ones in my correct size and helped me try them on (hooked them in the back for me, etc.). This place did NOT measure. The fitters are professionally trained and can tell the size just by looking.

For all you ladies who have been blessed... I was too, in highschool a solid 36 C... Then three kids later, I'm a 36 A... And IF even an a, because the cup size is a litte too big. Sad huh? I guess that is what I get nursing three kids for a year each.

I took my big boobed daughter and her big boobed buddy to get sized one time. they were in the 9th grade at the time. after the lady told them both that they were 36 d's they started on me trying to get me to do it. the older lady who had did theirs came over to me, put her arm around my shoulder and told me that there was no need to measure me and that they had some nice A cup sizes on sale. I told her, with a straight face, that I buy mine in the health and beauty dept. she looked at me sorta funny and I proceeded to tell her that 2 spot bandaids worked great for me. she cracked up and the kids did to. I think the problem I have is you actually have to HAVE something to train with those training bras and I dont!

The best fitting that I ever got was a store for pregnant and nursing mothers. The woman measured me and she was more accurate than any other store that I had been to.I am well endowed in the breast department, and they were even bigger than I thought, lol!

They do carry a few bras (Like 2kinds) in 38DD, but I wouldnt really rely much on them when i went there to get fitted the girl told me I was a 38D and gave me all different style bras...well I put one on and they were falling out all over the place I said to her I dont think this fits and she agreed then she said well we only have two styles in your size then One of them is the very sexy which I like but mostly plain colors nothing fancy but I think that the 38 is actually too big.

Have been fitted by both VS and Nord's, Nord's has been closest to being the right size (read: closer to actually fitting). VS told me I was a 36 A, Nord's told me I actually needed a C cup. I am 50+ yo and have lost over 100 lbs. in the past X years, so my bust is a droopy mess. After having lost an enormous amount of weight I was looking forward to wearing tee-shirts again, tucked in, but just couldn't find the right bra for doing this.
I *still* haven't found the right brand (or maybe size?) of bra (the closest that fit me was Wacoal, but still not comfy enough to wear all day, and I can't stand underwires), but I'd have to say that the Nord's fitting was closer to being accurate than my fitting at VS.
If anyone out there can recommend a bra/style/brand that fits the middle aged/large weight loss or middle aged ageddroopy busted women (whose bust is closer to the waist than the armpits ;-), I'd be eternally grateful. It seems like I've tried just about every brand in the past so many years and still haven't found anything that will cause me to forego bra-lessness and a vest or sweater over a tee-shirt yet.
MZ ... still on the quest for a comfy and well fit brassiere, heavy psi.

Sure wish we didn't have to wear the dang things...

I have done the sizing through JCP and it came up to a 36D but I feel that I am truly bigger than that. There really is more to it then measuring under/over and then deciding the cup size based on the difference. Mine are sinking southward which I think makes a big difference. I know the 36 part is right but am thinking a DD might fit better.

Wish I knew of a good minimizer that didn't feel like it was cutting off my circulation. Just don't enjoy the whole bra thing.

After seeing that Oprah show a while ago where Oprah says, "It looks like she got a boob lift" I went to find that bra! I am large on top too. The bra is Le Mystere Dream Tisha, T shirt Bra, it has molded cups, something I would have never considered with a large chest. I thought it would make me look bigger.

I went to a super fancy European lingerie store, I arrived right when it opened, hoping to be the only customer inside. I was. The women entered the fitting room when I was already wearing my regular bra. She then returned with bras for me to try, no measuring. She entered the fitting room again when I had the new bra on. She pushed and pulled a little, but no, you are not naked! I was thrilled with her suggestions.

Let me tell you, that bra makes your waist look soo much smaller since it holds you up higher! The price is YIKES! $60 approx. I got one, wore it for a week or so to be sure it was comfortable, then bought some more on ebay for $35-42.

Good Luck!

Went to Dillards just this last Saturday to do the whole bra fitting thing. Absolutely wonderful. My back had been hurting so I mostly wore the cami shirts with the built in bra's. I hated my regular bra. Since I am not getting my boob lift until my 40th b-day (next year) I decided to just get some new bra's. I have been wearing the wrong bra for years. I thought I was a 36 C, I am actually a 34 DD. What a difference. My back doesn't hurt and my boobs look great (like they did before nursing two kids). I strongly suggest everyone do this. The salelady was in the room when I was changing, but she always turned away. I wouldn't have cared, I nursed my kids in public so it was no big thing for me. Best of luck.

OMG.....ROFLOL. I just went bra shopping yesterday. I was "fitted" one time at the GAP, and she told me I was a 32B. Um, I can look at myself and tell that isn't true!!!! I really think I need to go get one of these done again.

Thanks for the chuckle LittleJo

Hmmm... wonder when Dillards will do another one of these. They did one in the Fall. I sure need to know what size would be best for me and then invest in a few good good bras. I know it would help my whole outlook. The girls are going south as I head toward my mid-40's... Not good.

Momziller -- try a Le Mystere Tisha bra if you can find them. They are an underwire, but if you get the correct size, it will fit like a dream and you won't even realize you're wearing an underwire. I had not worn underwires in a very long time because they were so uncomfortable -- well, after my professional fitting that is all I wear and they are very comfortable because they are the correct size.
