What a deal!!! This never happens to me. Of course I don't shop at thrift stores either, but have been thinking about checking them out.

I buy a lot at thrift stores, and always said "some day I'm going to find money in a pocket". My family laughed at me....until the day I found $17! They don't laugh any more.

I've found a few less desired things too....... but I wont go there.....

I found $150 and a credit card in a purse a couple of years ago.... I turned the card into the Police and gave the money to the store as a donation... I would have felt bad keeping it....never heard what the Police did with the credit card.....

I found a $100 bill in the box of a brooch I bought at a vintage shop in grad school. I held onto that money for a long time just because I couldn't believe it was real!

It'a amazing how many people don't check before donating clothes My mom found a diamond ring that was value at $3900 in a jacket from a thrift store. Never did find the owners

I wonder if they were all mistakes or if some was put in a pocket on purpose.
Maybe they thought the person who hung it up or checked for stains or tears would find it and could use it.
Maybe they thought it would go to someone really in need.
Maybe they did it just to brightenup someones life a bit.

I found $20 in a pair of pants I bought at a yard sale once. I went back to the house to return the money (it was the only sale I went too) and they didn't even thank me !!!!

My sister once found $5 in the hat of a doll she bought. Must have been a little kids stash from times gone by because it was a doll from the 70's.

RAOKs?

Many years ago I read online that some people actually do this. The posters said they leave like $20 in items at the store on purpose as a RAOK. I thought that was a very touching thought!

I personally have never found anything in a regular store or thrift. Just a penny here and there on the floor..lol

Just last week, my son found a five dollar bill on the grocery store floor. Anyone would have walked right by it, since it was very intricately folded (oragami-style) in a tiny square. Here's the kicker......it had a person's address lable stuck in the creases. We went to customer service and turned it in. The clerk actually said that her mother lives on the same street, and thanked my son over and over. I am trying to set an example for my son about turning in things that you know belong to someone else. Anyway, I do wonder if this was a Random Act of Kindness since it was so strange that the bill was folded like it was and also had their name and address on the label.

This happened to me also right before Christmas.
I had gone in the local Salvation Army to look for something specific that my kids were needing and found a jacket that would be great for my 3 y/o ds for 2.99. It would not fit him yet but would be great for next year so I bought it. I took it home and he wanted to try it on. It had several pockets all over and I was mindlessly just checking out all the zippers etc while I was talking to my dh...and found a brand new $20 bill in a little pocket on the shoulder. Who gives a 3 year old a $20 to just run around with? So I was very surprised and overjoyed as at that time we really needed the $. I started thinking about it though - If I knew whom it actually belonged to I would have definitely returned it. And I thought about giving it back to the SArmy but at the time WE needed the $ And then I thought maybe I would at a later date just take the $20 and put in the pocket of another jacket for someone else to find.
I think that would be cool, and I will have to do that some day soon as to PAY IT FORWARD.
I love the RAOKs and have been telling my soon-to-be-teenage daughters about all of the stories that Flylady members had been sharing. They love it too.
