help with Dyson, please

DH got me Dyson for us . What a sweetheart!!! We put it together and as soon as we lowered the handle to vacuum it started sounding like a helicopter. Almost as if there was some sort of a guard in there, but we took the bottom apart and could not find anything. It doesn't make that noise when picked up or set on the bare floor setting. We took it back to Sam's and got another one, and ... it's doing the same thing!!! Yes, we did read the manual (as much as we hated to ), nothing there. I know we have some Dyson veterans here .... HELP, please.

I wish I could help you. I can't imagine what it would be though. I don't think that mine makes that noise. It does sound different not on the bare floor setting. But I never thought it sounded like a helicopter! Don't give up, you are going to love your Dyson. I lovingly named mine "lady dy". My family thinks I'm a freak! Good luck...

Call the toll-free telephone number. When I put mine together a few years back, I ran into a problem. I called the number and the company representative told me that there was a mistake in the directions and gave me the solution. I usually hesitate to call for help, but it was so simple!

I know that it is sensitive to loose carpets and will make a funny noise. Even a small amount of loose thread will set it off, but I still love my Dyson!!

Thanks, guys, for your suggestions! We didn't change the setting nor do we have loose rugs in the living room. Hmmmmm....

This is kinda related: Linen's n Things has the Animal (that's the one I really wanted, don't tell DH) on sale ($499 with a $50 GC). On their 20% off coupon it doesn't say anything about Dyson anymore. Can the coupon be used for one now????

I just called LnT and YES, THE 20% OFF WORKS ON THE DYSON!!! Woo-hoo

Don't know about the coupon, but I got the Animal and have never used any of the extra attachments, other than the ones on the vacuum itself that are standard. I have two dogs that shed, shed, shed and the vacuum has worked just fine by itself, never needed to use the special pet hair attachement.

My Dyson makes a horable noise when I vacume the rugs in the livingroom. I have to pick it up a few times to get it to stop. I also have an animal one. I never have a problem with it on the carpet or the bare floors. People laugh at me because I have wood floors in the living room and hall and I NEVER sweep, I vacume all the rooms in my house, including the bathrooms. Since I bought mine my sister and a friend also have gotten one. I love my vacume. We haven't named it but we don't call it a vacume either.

Dyson noise

When I got mine it would do this when I hit certain parts of the floor. I called Dyson and they were VERY helpful. There was some little rubber round strip thingee that they had me remove. It took care of 90% of the problem. Every once in a while if I go against the carpet grain or hit higher level carpet, it will make the noise but I can turn it off and back on and then it's OK. It was almost continuous until I removed that little rubber strip thingee.

Dyson Customer Service was awesome.

Hi- I wish I could help, but I have no idea what your problem could be. I just wanted to say that I got a Dyson two days ago, and I love it!! What a difference it makes, I wish I had bought one long ago, instead of repeatedly buying junky ones that don't work well, and break all of the time. I bought a factory reconditioned one off of ebay, and it seems to be brand new. I am very pleased.

I hope you can figure things out... you are going to love your new machine!
