Help with the "tooth fairy"

My 6 Y/O DS lost his first tooth today and immediately got very frightened at the prospect of the tooth fairy coming into his room. He asked a zillion questions from does she fly, how does she get in, is she a person, do you have to call her or does she just know...all the normal questions...Now, I am waiting to "Be" the tooth fairy and he is sleeping very restless because he is scared of "her". He's already been in my room twice. Sometimes I hate these lies we tell them , like santa, the easter bunnny, etc...

Any Advice on what to tell him?
Whats the going rate for a first tooth?

Thanks!!!

I would write a note and leave it on the kitchen table asking if the tooth fairy could pick up the tooth out there if that would make him feel better. Then leave the money there. My children always wanted to keep their teeth so we always left a note asking that the tooth be left. Also if my child was that afraid I would tell them that it is really just a game and that I was the tooth fairy. It is suppose to be fun, not make them scared. If you do tell him the truth tell him its a secret between the two of you so he does not ruin it for the children that believe in it.

I always gave my children $5 for the first tooth and $2 for each one after that. If they said that someone got more or less then they did I told them that the tooth fairy only had so much money to give out each night. So depending on how many teeth were lost that night was how much you got.

I agree with 3togetready, the easter bunny had to leave my middle son's basket on the porch for many years. If you think about it the whole concept of the tooth fairy is more scarey than any character. She is the only one that comes into your room , while you are sleeping, and messes with your pillow.

My kids always got five a tooth, I told them they would always get five unless their tooth wasn't sparkling clean!

Thank You Both! He made it through and the tooth fairy came. He was very excited with his $5. I wish I would have thought of the idea of leaving a note to keep the tooth before we put him to bed, We will definitely do that next time. Of course I did keep it !

Thanks Again!
