Question! American Express GC--can I get cash at ATM?

Sorry I don't know where to post this question!! I have possibly won an American Express GC-I'll know today! The one bill I am very behind on is my vehicle payments--they don't take debit/credit cards. So how do I get cash off of the card to pay this? IS there any way? Please say there is.

Q) Are the cards sold at stores like Rite Aid, debit cards?

I know that they come with a $9.95 handling (or is it activation?) fee.

Worth checking out all of your possibilities.

You might even want to call the car payment company and ask what methods of payment are available to you.

I won this from a sweepstakes. It is an actual American Express card.

I need to pay via money order. I can't buy a money order with a card,or can I?

You might be S-O-L with paying with the credit card but...
There's always groveling.
Call your loan company and ask to speak with a supervisor. Tell them you have an american express gift card and it has x amount of dollars on it...Tell them you will pay with that until you get your money. It's that or nothing. Most of the time they will take it!!

Another idea...
go to your local bank you have a relationship with and tell them your story. They can withdraw the money for a fee off the credit card and then buy your money order with the money. It's free money so it won't cost you a dime but it does suck that some of the money has to go to fees.

Ask a family member if you can trade for it. Mom or Dad may have the cash you need (or check) and the amex gift card may be something they can use (for online shopping or what have you) even though it has your name.

Unless you have a pin number, you cannot withdraw from an atm.

Those are the "desperate" ideas I have for you! HTH

Thank you for your ideas!

Also was thinking the post office might let me buy a money order?

I will try everything before giving up! Also am asking around for someone to trade cash for the card.

you might call the post office to see if they accept credit cards for money orders before you waste your gas to go down there. I have never encountered anyone who accepts anything other than cash for money orders. hth

I know!! I have been able to with a debit card at the post office. Maybe she wasn't supposed to do that. Maybe she doesn't know. Hopefully she will do it this time as well.

Otherwise I am SOL. Ugh. The one bill I am behind on and NEED to pay. Surely there is a way!!

Post Offices have varying policies on accepting Debit Cards for Money Orders depending upon their current accounting system and whether or not its been upgraded. I would call around, because there should be at least one in your area that would take a Debit Card. They are upgrading somewhat randomly.
