Exclamation Strange phone call from unknown phone number

2 days in a row. I didnt answer it. But wrote the number down.

I called it back. It's disconnected. I googled the number, and its a scam artist, looking for warranty information, blah blah blah... generally, don't answer it. If you do, dont give out information (but thats obvious...)

Can I give the phone #? It's disconnected, so don't try to call it back (because it WON'T work)

It's a NJ phone number. 732-866-4091

Googling it shows the scams and the boards on it.

Just an FYI. In case anyone else is getting them.

Yeah, my favorites are the ones that display a 000-000-0000 number. Like I'm gonna answer that one.

Caller Id is getting useless. There are programs that can make the Caller Id show any number the user wants it to ..I have alot of telemarkers calling me & I'm on the do not call list... Alot good that does me I let the answer machine get it when I don't recoginze the number..

I keep getting a weird number as well. Same area code, but an extra 5 or 6 numbers added on. They only call at 3 and 4 in the morning my time. I have answered numerous times and told them, wrong number, dont call and they continue to do it. Sounds foreign, so who knows. I googled the number and nothing.

I hate being on the "do not call list" as it does no good. I work nights and turn off the phone but I still get a lot of calls during the day that the machine picks up. I hate it. Sometimes if I am in a bad mood and I know it is a telemarketer, I will let my lively 10 year old DD talk. She could talk the arm off anyone. I just let her go. It is funny. Sometimes they end up hanging up on her!!!

I don't have caller id, it was no big help, "do not call " a joke. I have an answer machine. Everyone I know, if you want me you have to say who you are. My sons will call and say mom, pick up the phone. All of our friends know to say who they are before I pick up the phone. On my cell phone if it says caller unknown I let it ring. I do not call back any number that is not listed in my address book.

If I don't know who it is I don't answer it. My children on the other hand will answer it and then hand me the phone. I in turn hang up on them.

If a number pops up and you're on the "do not call" list, report them!

Go to www.donotcall.gov and click on "file a complaint" on the left side menu. I did that and within a week that number finally stopped calling (and they were calling for weeks prior).

At least w/caller ID I can see if I recognize a number or caller name.
If I don't, I don't pick up, period.
Anyone who *really* needs to get a hold of me will find a way even if I don't recognize or pick up on a call.

Got another call today from 'local' caller. No number.

Matthew 'something or other' from the chevy dealership warranty department... Yeah, I own a chevy...

Guy was almost rude on the phone, something about warranty, and I knew what it was immediately.

gave no information.

Asked for phone number to call him back. Nope. He has to close the file. 'dude I give my number out and no one calls', he says...

I told him I was in a meeting, gimme a number.

Nope.

I told him what to do...

He'll call me back tomorrow, Im sure... (sigh)

It amazes me that when people change their number for whatever reason, they never tell anyone! We got a new number a year ago and who ever had this number before, has tons of out of state friends calling all the time.... I love when they ask "Well what is her new number?" Uhhhhhhhhhh

I was getting a Dr office calling and leaving a message that "Mary, you really need to call to schedule the MRI we talked about........" I finially called them back and said they had the wrong number....sure enough either she gave them my number or had the number before the last person who had it.......... CVS called and said this message is for Mary REAL LAST Name, your prescription can be picked up at our REAL CITY location"............. Called them too...and told them they had the wrong number and sure enough they called several times after that saying her meds were ready.......

We get calls from collection agency looking for people in the neighborhood that owe money. Since they are not selling anything it doesn't fall under the no call list. Only after they call once and you inform them not to call anymore can you report them if they call again.

If they call me I would act dumb like I want it and tell them I will send a certifed check and ask for a address. I would go from there and try to close them down.

There is a computer service called Fast Data available to businesses that allows you to put in an address and come up the name and phone number or put in the number and get address and name info. It also has a feature that allows you to find the contact info for the whole neighborhood. Work uses it and when clients do not resond they have us start calling the neighbors and asking questions. ( I do NOT work for a colection agency, telemartkers or anything like that so don't shoot me LOL)

I do not have access to it I have to call my Seattle RO and have them look up the info for me.

Too funny! I bet those telemarketers wish they had never called your number. LOL

I'm going to have to remember that one! I'll have to tell DH about that one too.

I just don't answer if I don't recognize the number but if DH answers, he either says he's never heard of the person they are calling for or he tells them they died. We don't actually get all that many calls from telemarketers since I put our number on the Do Not Call list. Most of the time it's political calls, survey calls, organizations looking for donations, etc. And, guess what? These people can call pretty much any time of the day they want! I got a call from Cancer Research the other night after 9:00 p.m. I would have told them off if I felt like picking up the phone.

Type in the number and see who's calling of you don't know who it is. Of course it doesn't work for those 000 #'s.
I find this useful, especially if they keep calling me, I'm prepared for the next time they call.

I like to just act like they just called a business such as a tanning salon or driver's education class and they get all befuddled.

I'm getting lots of these calls. I just moved to a new state and have a new number. Someone called today and asked me THREE times was Maria so and so there. I kept telling him he had the wrong number. He then proceeded to spell the name for me and I interrupted him and said THIS IS NOT THEIR number. Jeez, he acted like he didn't believe me. I think I know who lives in my house with my number. I am sure it was someone who used to have this number. It gets old sometimes. They call several times a day and I don't answer it. Then finally they call again and I'm ticked because they keep calling. Solicitors are the worst. If I wanted a magazine subscription, I would subscribe myself.

My husband kept getting calls from an Ob-Gyn office, which was a problem, since we work nights, and they'd wake us up. He finally managed to reach them, and spent 15 minutes arguing that he didn't owe anything, since he didn't have the necessary parts. Oddly enough, they never called back after that.
