Sounds like a reaction to the medication you are taking. I'd call your doctor. I had shingles on my scalp/forehead/eyelid a few years ago. It's not a fun thing. Acts up quite often. Thankfully mine isn't terribly painful still. DH had it on his side/stomach/back area and it's quite painful for him very often. He originally got shingles 7 years ago.

Also sounds like a drug reaction to me. I am allergic to 2 antibiotics and have severe reactions to them. Much worse than just itching. I would call your doctor and ask them. I also had shingles a few years ago and it was very painful, however I wan't given an antibiotic for it. I was given Valtrex and Vicodin for thie awful pain. I had it on my spine. I couldn't sleep without the pain meds because everytime I wolled over in bed on my back the pain would wake me out of a dead sleep.

i was not given an antibiotic for it either and was wondering the same thing. I was given the exact same thing you were the Valtrex. I have the mess on my face. my nodes are also swollen, my ears hurt and my throat too. not to mention the other pains throughout my body. i think this is one of the worst things i have ever seen.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about shingles. I think some of you made a response. Shingles is a virus. If you had chickenpox as a kid, you have the possibility of getting shingles. Chickenpox lays dormant in your body until something triggers it. Stress is a factor for some people. It looks like poison ivy. The main difference is it follows a nerve and it hurts but does not itch. Most people get it once. Some people get it more than once. Some people have nerve pain for the rest of their lives. There are medicines to help the pain. Since it is a virus , there are only 3 medicines that I know they give. Valtrax is the most common. Acilover (spelling) is the other med. I can't remember the third one. The worst place to get it is in the head area. My dh had it once one his arm. Then 6 years later got it on his arm again. A few months later he got a few spots on the side of his face. The boss had it on his face 6 months earlier and almost lost his vision. My husband had the worst case senerio. He got viral encephalitis (it infected his brain). He has tramatic brain injury from it. He has seizures a couple times a week (this is down from 4 or 5 a day) and other neuro problems. Please see your doctor again and make sure in going in the right direction.

Stress is what brought mine on I think. I had had twins by emergency c section a few months earlier and then 10 days after I had them my dad died during a surgery. My babies were in NICU for 17 days and 3 months. When I walked in the er and the DR saw me and said I think you have shingles, have you been under stress lately, I just looked at him and said yes alittle. Shingles follows a nerve pattern so it won't spread to your whole body, it will follow whatever nerve it is on. I had it like someone else, scalp, head, face, eye. I could not see out of that eye for about 6 months, it was still blurry. I was given valtrex, steroids, pain meds (percocet I think and dilauded in the er) and some kind of sulfa that I thought was an abx.

This info is so crazy. I have a terrible itch on my neck starting about three weeks ago. Three days ago my face started feeling tight and itchy....is this the same type of symptons you guys have had or have? I had a rash on my neck but not anymore and there is no visible rash on my face just itchy. Please tell me I'm totally freaking out now!! |

Do shingles hurt because it's a nerve affliction? A person would think to associate shingles with the chicken pox so both should itch. |

Yes, shingles hurt because it follows a nerve. It does not itch although chickpox do. Some people have pain in that area for the rest of their lives. But there is medicine to help with the pain. Lyrica is one pill used for that reason. It can also be used for seizures and migriane headaches.
