What do you volunteer for?

Just wanted to see what everyone does with there extra time.

I volunteer in Girl Scouts and we donate a lot of items to the local food banks and make gift baskets for the womens shelter.

What do you do?

Well, I do work for the American Cancer Society. I do Relay for Life, I'm an advocate for cancer research, and I get involved with the politics of fighting cancer. We do alot within our church too, ie, nursing home visits, sending packages to soldiers, and choir.

I send lots of care packages to troops deployed OCONUS and also adopt children/seniors for employer's back-to-school and holiday gift drives. I wish I could do more, but with work, kids, and household stuff, that's about all I do.

Oh yeah, did the room mother, field trip chaperone, class party thing until those years were over.

Also donate BLOOD - the gift of life - feel strong about that one!

I send packages overseas and do individual things to help people in the community. I used to go to the hospital and to the homeless shelter until I moved out of town and my work started taking my time.

I help out with the PTA, the last thing I did was help chaperone a dance at the elementary school (those kids were wild!) Last year when I was finishing up nursing school, I participated in a program called Compeer RN. It was a fantastic program where we were paired up with someone in the community with mental illness, and it was their "job" to educate us about their disability over a period of months, I learned so much, and made a great friend.

The other thing we do, not really volunteering I guess, is sponsor a child through Children International. We just got a letter from him today from Guatemala.

Nice things that you folks do... You sound like such a caring group of people. Keep up the great job!

I help out at a therapeutic horseback riding school with handicapped riders. I *muck* corrals and exercise unused horses one day a week and help with the lessons (as a horse-leader or a side-walker for the students) on another day. We were closed for the winter but classes start back up next week.

Other than that, I help out with the schools when they need it but they rarely call... too many helpers and/or my kids are getting older.

I help out with Brownies. I work all the class parties during the year (due to dd's food allergies). Once in a while her teacher gives me some work to do at home for her.

Co-Chair in charge of the PTO Book Fair.. 2 a year.

Girl Scout assistant leader

Volunteer different areas of the school when needed. (they know they can always call me)...

Also I am head room mother for one child, and just a room mother on the other.

My kids aren't in Kindergarten anymore, but I still help with kindergarten round-up. I also help with the dental and vision screenings.
And the first day of school the kids K teacher has me help in her room. New kids she always likes having me in there to help control the crowd. lol

When my kids were young, I did the usual stuff helping in the school rooms.
I was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
DH has been a volunteer firefighter.
Now we work with our square dance friends for a local charity, The Crusade for Children.
We also donate food and toys during the holidays.
We went to Florida after one of the bad huricanes a few years ago and helped there.

Girl Scouts, the elementary school, (oldest dd doesn't like me helping at the middle school - but I still attend the PTO meetings there!), and manager soccer teams.

I am president of a women's club that all their work and funds are return to the community. We have a Halloween party for the kids in the fall, sponsor families in need with food baskets and gift cards to grocery stores for each holiday. Monthy donate to the food pantry, have a yearly trash and treasure sale and the remainder is donated to shelters, give two $500 scholarships to our local high school graduating seniors, have a yearly egg hunt for the community children, sponsor 10 summer concerts by bands to play on Monday evenings for the community, and donate time money or skills to other service groups in our community where and when needed.

DH is a Cub Scout den leader and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts.

I am the Cubmaster for our Cub Scout pack and a Troop Commitee Member for the Boy Scout troop.

I've been talked into being on the PTSO board at my oldest's middle school as part of theyearbook/photography "staff".

I'm room mother for my youngest's class, we just got home from a field trip today. I rode in the very back of the bus and got sooooooo bus sick I could barf!!

Last year I worked in my oldest's fourth grade classroom 2-4 days a week. It was like having a real job! I remember "calling in" the two days I was too sick to "work" and feeling so guilty about it. I loved my son's teacher and hope that my youngest has her when he moves to the middle school this fall.

I have found over the years that I really love volunteering, especially when it comes to kids.

Most of my volunteer work has been done at the kid's schools...I've been a room parent, garden parent, Chick fil A Citizenship parent, in charge of Red Ribbon Week for four years, and next year I'm going to be the president of our high school's orchestra...I also do alot of volunteer work at our church...When the kids get older I'd like to volunteer to work with sick babies in the hospital...or with senior citizens in a nursing home...they love having people bring in their pets to visit them. ~Lisa

I am the fundraising chairperson for our school Athletic Association. Since my husband is the president, that also means I am the schedule maker, uniform orderer, in charge of the concession stand and in charge of team registrations for indoor & outdoor soccer, basketball and flag football.

In addition to that I am a team mom for my son's 10-12 football team as well as on the fundraising committee.

I do fundraising for a scholarship fund in memory of my boss who was killed in a car accident 2 years ago.

Gee I do a lot of fundraising! No wonder my bank account is so small!

I also help with indoor soccer concessions and running the tournament. I actively participate in the Johns Hopkins Childrens Center radiothon.

When I get bored, I try to help out at school as well.
