Question about depression medicine?

Does anyone take Citalopram generic for Celexa? If so, what are the side affects you experience? The doctor put me on a 20MG tab and I am kinda scared to take it because I am scared I will get loopy or mean or something. I have never in my life took anything but an Aleve and I am scared about taking this medicine. Thanks for your help.

Here is my personal opinion. You need to research everything about this med that you can. Do a search on google and try to read as much about it as you can stand. Remember to watch for any change even the smallest thing that you stop and think oh that was strange. If you notice it then you need to watch it and tell your Dr.

I myself have no experience with Celexa so I can't tell you anything other than learn the side effects and watch for them.
I hope you start feeling better good luck.

Be careful if you stop taking any SSRI meds. DON"T do it cold turkey. It took me 6-8 weeks to get off Paxil and I had side effects (brain zaps!) the whole time. Paxil works but I would say that should be the last choice. Lots of side effects. I am on Zoloft for anxiety and the side effects are a lot less than Paxil. Sometimes you have to try different ones until you find one that works for you. But if you find one that works it can really make a difference. Good luck!!!

I am taking effexor XR for depression and anxiety . I've been on it since Nov. A few years ago, I was on prozac. I like effexor better..prozac made me tired and groggy half the time. I had brain zaps too..scarey ! I say try the meds, they are lifesavers.

My only advice is one that has already been stated....be careful if you wean off any of these types of meds. I have been on about 8 different ones over the course of the last 3 years and have had really really bad problems weaning off all of them.

As the previous posters said, research it on the net. I say go ahead and try it, since the physician felt this medication would benefit you. Sometimes, it takes approximately 6 weeks before you start experiencing the full benefits of the medication. Note any side effects you experience during this time frame, and if something does not feel right, contact your physician right away. If you feel the medication is doing more harm than good, once again contact the physician for alternative medications. If you choose to discontinue this medication, contact the physician first.

Never took Celexa, but took Prozac years ago. I too was afraid to take any medication. Try it, you will probably find that you are glad you did.

I have been on Paxil for about 5 years now and I know it is a problem drug for many but I was in a very bad depression when my psychiatrist put me on the Paxil. It took a month or more until I got the full benefits but it is a wonderful drug for me. It was the first 1 that they tried and everyone jokes that I should be the Paxil poster child as it does just what it was suppose to do for me. I have no side effects from it and will be on it for the rest of my life. I too was scared to take those pills at first. Have your family members or someone who sees you often informed that you are doing this and if they notice any changes for the worse to please tell you. That way you do not have to worry about missing something. Of course worry and anxiety were 2 of my problems so this was reassuring to me that someone else was watching me too.
I hope you can feel as good as what I do now with your drug and don't worry if you need to be changed a few times as I was told to expect it. I was just 1 of the very lucky ones that they hit correctly the first try!

Did you Dr. recommend going straight to the 20mg or cutting them in half and taking 1/2 for the first couple of weeks? I've heard of introducing the drug at half dose and maybe that would be a good way for you to ramp and get comfortable/watch for reactions....(with dr. OK, of course)

I took and tried many different ones including that, however it wasn't for me. I have been on Zoloft for about 6 years or more and it is a lifesaver. I love it. The only side effect that bothers me is that I gained about 10 lbs, but gaining 10 lbs verses keeping my sanity, is a winner for me!

It may take a few attempts to find the right one for you, but in the end, I am sure you'll be glad that you did.

Hope you get along better!

Celexa

That is the medicine I take and I experience no side effects at all. It is a great medicine that has saved me many black, depressed days. I would vouch for it wholeheartedly. I too started off at 20mg so im thinking that is the standard starting dose?
