Question Could somebody please explain daylight savings time ....

.... benefits to me? I can see the benefits people had in the 30's and 40's when factories weren't staffed 24/7. I think I'm too stupid to understand the benefits today - yesterday the news went so far as to clain that daylight savings will save you gas. Please have mercy on me and explain that one ....

I just saw a discussion about daylight savings on CNN (I think). The point that these two speakers made was- it is ok to do daylight saving time if Congress was truthful about the reason . DST is for businesses- people spend more if there is more daylight after work (which boosts the economy). One interesting point, was the huge financial boon to the golfing industry! I would never had thought of that one. The CNN speakers said they were tired of Congress trying to made it sound like DST had anything to do with energy savings. They felt like Congress could point to DST and say. "look. we are doing something about our energy issues" rather than legislating some real energy bills.

You go shopping more after work if it is light out. And about golf my dh always looks foward to daylight saving because of it being lighter later.

But it will be darker in the morning and I run in the morning. I hate running in the dark!

I just read that it doesn't help the driver to see you!! I have been wasting my time wearing them! I try to dress in white shirt and stay on the sidewalk.

WOW I always thought that the economy was the exact reason.
I didn't know anyone else even thought it was diff reason.
Thereby spendng money later in the day.
To me it definatly is GREAT that it gets dark an hour later.
You see I can't see to drive in dark ,so dark is my crufew.
No shopping is gonna happen if I can't get back home before dark!
If you are young you might be surprised at how many people over 50 can't see to drive after dark.
I know many people with the problem and we are all overjoyed when it's Daylight Saveing time!.
